本句中動(dòng)名詞短語(yǔ)finding the right one作為介詞into的賓語(yǔ)。

本句主語(yǔ)family and friends與動(dòng)詞invite構(gòu)成被動(dòng)關(guān)系,所以使用被動(dòng)語(yǔ)態(tài)are invited。

本句中有than說(shuō)明前面應(yīng)該使用比較級(jí)形式more,副詞much修飾more。

④it,one,that是高考命題鎖定的三個(gè)代詞。

例:Which of the three ways shall I take to the village?

—_______ way as you please.

A. Each B. Every C. Any D. Either

I awoke in the night to find my husband, Marty, gently rocking our baby son, Noah. I stood for a moment in the doorway, watching this amazing man with whom I was so blessed to share my life, lovingly stroke Noah’s fat pink cheeks in an effort to comfort him. I felt in my heart that something was seriously wrong with Noah. This was one of several nights Noah had been up, burning with a high fever.

Tears filled my eyes as I watched Marty move Noah’s little cheek up against his own chest, so that Noah could feel the vibrations of his voice. Noah is deaf. Learning to comfort him has brought on a whole new way of thinking for us. We relied on our voices, audio toys, and music to comfort our other children. But with Noah, we need to use touch, sight, the feel of our voices, and most importantly, the use of sign language to communicate emotions and a sense of comfort to him. Marty made the sign for “I love you” with his hand and I saw a tear roll down his cheek as he placed Noah’s tiny, weak hand on top of his.

We had taken Noah to the doctor more times than I can remember. It had been a week and a half and Noah’s fever remained very high and very dangerous, despite everything the doctor or we had tried. I knew in my soul the way only a mother can know, that Noah was in trouble.

I gently touched Marty’s shoulder and we looked into each other’s eyes with the same fear and knowledge that Noah’s wasn’t getting any better. I offered to take over for him, but he shook his head. When morning finally came, we called the doctor and were told to bring him in again. We already knew that he would probably put Noah in the hospital. So, we made arrangements for the other children, packed bags for all three of us, and tearfully drove to the doctor’s office once again. Our hearts filled with dread, we waited in a small room, different from the usual examining room we had become used to.

I used to hate waiting in line, thinking of it as a big waste of time and a test on my patience, but 1(live) in Israel for three years, I have changed my attitude toward it.

Probably because the country is not very big, with limited resources, 2 you’re at the bank, the post office or the bus stop, you’ll always find a straight line of people waiting. But instead of worrying or hurrying some are drinking hot coffee; 3 are chatting to each other, even though a minute ago they were just strangers.

4 seemed to me that they were enjoying queuing and taking the chance to relax.

Gradually I came to realize that 5 (obey) rules, which can be clearly seen in queuing up, is an important part of their culture. Once I saw a young foreigner trying to jump the queue and be shouted at by an old Israeli man, with others joining in. The poor guy was so ashamed6 he slipped away as fast as he could.

But don’t think Israeli people are cruel. If you have to leave for a short time, 7 the person behind you agrees, you can always come back and stand in front of him or her. However, if you miss him or her, you’ll have to start over. If you wait next to the basketball court or tennis court for more than five minutes, someone on the court will definitely offer 8(switch) places with you. This has become part of the culture in Israel.

Their culture 9 (reflect) Israelis’ belief in equal opportunities, which may have played a role in helping Israel to stay on its feet in the world even after the cruel Holocaust.

Compared 10 Israel, our way of queuing up is much more casual. People always go out of their way to get the “privilege” of a shorter wait.

Holidays are not necessarily for fun or rest. Doing something meaningful can also gain special pleasure. When the final bell rang, the students were reminded that there was no school on Monday—the Labor Day. “Enjoy your extra day off,”said the teacher to her class.

An extra day of fun suited Kayla just fine. She loved breaks. She wanted to go out to play with her friends. When the school bus dropped Kayla off, she ran into the house happily.

“How was school, Kayla?” asked her mom.

“It was great, Mom. I am excited about no school on Monday. ”

“You just started back to school two weeks ago. Already in need of a break, huh?” asked Kayla’s mom with a laugh.

Kayla slept in the next morning. Saturday was her favorite day of the week. It rained most of the day, so Kayla enjoyed playing video games inside. On Sunday, her friends came over and they played basketball for several hours.

Then it was Labor Day, you know, the extra day off that Kayla was so looking forward to. But Kayla was awakened early that morning by her dad.
