【題目】There is much discussion about the necessity of daily homework for students. Some say homework is necessary since only practice 【1】 (make) perfect, while others disagree. In my opinion, daily homework is necessary for students. However, this might be misleading that one may believe all forms of homework 【2】 necessary. Actually , only proper amount of homework in proper form is 【3】 ( accept); some homework may not only fail to help the students, but on 【4】 contrary bore them so much that they may lose their interest in studying. “Proper” homework, in my opinion, should 【5】 (vary) in its forms, 【6】 might be some extensive reading, a paper, or even just a game, as well as other ordinary exercise. And it should leave enough 【7】 (free) to the students so that they could do things they really like to do with self-motivation, rather than unwillingness. We should always remember that homework is something for us to guide the students, rather than 【8】 (drive) them. Only if a teacher 【9】 (keep) this 【10】his/her mind, the homework could be of most help to the students.
【答案】
【1】makes
【2】are
【3】acceptable
【4】the
【5】vary
【6】which
【7】freedom
【8】drive
【9】keeps
【10】in

One hundred and twenty students took exams for it, but only a few was chosen and I was one of them. However, my parents are not happy about it. They are strong against me going there. They say it is too far away that they will not see me for a whole year and they are afraid of I will feel lonely. They can’t imagine a girl so young live alone. They advise me study in the capital instead. Then I’ll be able to continue living with them. How can I persuade them to accept the fact I have grown up?
Yours,

【題目】Robots that can chat, find misplaced glasses, draw airplanes and play with your children are attracting thousands of visitors during an expo in Tokyo as Japan adapts to changes in society.
Robots, such as the sound-sensitive Chapit, answer simple questions and even joke with people to help the solitary fight loneliness and stay alert (機(jī)警的) in old age. “Many old people in Japan live alone and have no one to talk to,” said Kazuya Kitamura, a representative of the expo organizer. “Communication robots stay together with old people and don’t mind listening to the same stories over and over again.”
While Chapit, a relatively simple robot, managed to attract a partner, many researchers, such as Kiyoshi Matsumoto, a professor at the University of Tokyo, struggle to attract sponsors for more expensive projects.
Matsumoto’s “Personal Mobility Robot”, equipped with four cameras and a sensor to recognize the user’s centre of gravity, is designed to help the elderly move around without pressing buttons as in traditional wheelchairs.
The robot can also help find misplaced glasses by recognizing them with a sensor. “We have developed a robot that can assist many people, but because of the high cost, we still haven’t found a sponsor,” said Matsumoto, who added that the cost of the machine, if produced in large quantities, would be comparable to that of a small car. “In the current economic environment there are few companies willing to invest (投資) in such a costly project,” he said.
Other robots, such as the award-winning “DiGRO”, can support busy parents who have little time to play with their children. The robot can use the Internet to find a simple image and then draw pictures, looking after children while parents work.
Japan is one of the world’s fastest-aging countries and the government predicts that by 2050 the population of people over 65 will reach 40 percent.
【1】What can Chapit do according to the text?
A. It can find misplaced objects for the elderly.
B. It can help the elderly to move around freely.
C. It can communicate with people.
D. It can tell the same story over and over again.
【2】What is the problem with Matsumoto’s “Personal Mobility Robot”?
A. It is too expensive.
B. It is not practical.
C. It is just like traditional wheelchairs.
D. It is not quite convenient for the elderly to use.
【3】“DiGRO” is designed to .
A. keep children busy
B. create simple images
C. keep children company
D. help children learn how to draw
【4】What does the underlined word “solitary” in the second paragraph mean?
A. Poor. B. Lonely. C. Unemployed. D. Disabled.

It is reported that thirty cellphones taken away by teachers during the examination and were smashed (銷(xiāo)毀) in front of students and parents at a high school. As to this, we hold a heated discussion. There are two different viewpoints about them.
Some think it necessarily. Firstly, with cellphones, students would have focused their attention on studying instead of wasting their precious time reading junk message. Secondly, the examination will be fair if no one cheats using cellphones. However, the others think it otherwise. For one thing, at the age of information, cellphones have become a necessity. For another, students can use cellphones for study.
Personally spoken, even if some students use cellphones for no good reason, we should educate them more than destroy cellphones in such an extreme way.

【題目】Americans plan parties for many reasons. As in other cultures, many Americans attend parties for weddings and religious or national holidays. But some parties are especially American. For example, a group of neighbors may gather on their street to eat food, play music and visit with one another. This is called a block party. A woman might invite a group of women to a party called a baby shower for a friend who is about to give birth. Guests bring presents for the new baby.
Americans also attend tailgate parties. A tailgate is the back end of a truck or other vehicle that opens down. The tailgate parties are a big part of sports culture in the United States. Friends bring food and drink to a sports event. They eat together in the parking area of the sports stadium.
Birthday parties are also very popular. Many parents organize a party for their child around a theme. Birthday parties usually include gifts and a birthday cake with candles. In many parts of the United States, cupcakes have become a popular replacement for cakes.
Birthday parties can be low cost or very costly. Some parents take their children’s birthday parties very seriously, even when the child is too young to fully understand the celebration.
One group of parents started a website called Birthdays Without Pressure. They decided that some parents were under too much social pressure to plan costly parties for their children. The group sees this movement as an example of America’s culture of “too much stuff”.
