Dear Mr. Green,

I'm very exciting to learn that you will start a magazine together. That sounds great and I definitely agree you on that.

Some of the columns that you mention in the letter are really my cup of tea. "Cultural Express" give us a better understanding of the world. Since people from different part of the world have different values, it's necessary to learn from each another. Apart from that,。Blurt Out" is pretty good for Chinese students to learn English idioms and improving oral English. “Entertainment" is also cool! The popular singers, actors or celebrities are so attractively that you absolutely can't miss this part. Teenagers are to fond of popular things, too.

Well, I can't list more. I really can't wait to read this magazine.

Yours.

I remember my' mother as a strong woman. She came to America when she was 12-old enough to remember her language, she achieved scores and grades high enough to be admitted to Duke University. With a degree in computer science, she finally became the manager of a company in New York. My mother could give fluent speeches, say "wolves" correctly.

It was my mother who always stressed the importance of language. From the time l was born,1 was read to. 1 would fall asleep to the sounds of my parents' voices, whether it was my dad's softly accented, or my mother's clear English. The flow of language was unbroken, and whether in Chinese or English , the stream of communication flowed through our house.

One October morning in sixth grade, after my mother had left to catch the train to the city ,I left the house for the bus stop. 1 was surprised when I saw our car, the door hanging open. As I drew closer ,I saw my mother lying on the ground.

In the hospital, it was hard to believe that the lady who lay before me was my mom. My mother could not remember my name. As the leaves changed colors, it became clear that the stroke had created a wall between my mother's mind and mouth: her mind was not any less clear, but the words she spoke were not what she meant.

The battle my mother faced taught me the importance of language. Without it, identity does not exist; relationships cannot be formed; stories cannot be told; directions cannot be given, and knowing any-thing about anyone is impossible. Without language, communication cannot take place. Without language, one cannot express the beauty of a sunset or the kindness of a stranger. The world would pass us by in silence.

1.From the second paragraph, we can know____.

A. the author was taught to read since she was born

B. the author's father spoke English poorly

C. the author couldn't fall asleep without being read to

D. the author's parents taught her language by talking a lot

2.According to the last two paragraphs, the author's mom was unable to

A. think clearly

B. express herself well

C. speak

D. open her mouth

3.This passage is mainly about ______.

A. a strong mother

B. the importance of language

C. a family disaster

D. the significance of teaching language

科目:高中英語 來源:2016屆四川雙流中學高三12月月考英語試卷(解析版) 題型:閱讀理解

“Image is everything.” An entire industry has been built upon the assumption that image is everything, but when it comes down to it, an appealing image is not enough. If there is no substance(事實) behind the image, the product, service or person will fail eventually.

First of all, one should consider how important image is in the selling of products and services. Advertising agencies have raised the art of creating an image to a state of near perfection. Public concept of that product or service is certainly managed by the images created by the advertising agencies. But if the product or service does not live up to the image that was created, the customer will be very dissatisfied and possibly ask for their money back. For example, the Arthur Andersen accounting firm had spent decades building up an image of trustworthiness. But the recent scandal (丑聞) showed that behind that image, it cheated in business practices. Despite the previous positive image, the firm is being accused of criminal actions and it will probably not survive as a business unit. Although the image had been nearly perfect, the reality behind the image has led to the downfall of the world famous accounting firm.

Similarly, personal advisers can build up a public image for politicians and movie stars. Putting out positive news releases, making sure that only the best photographs are published, and ensuring that the person is seen in all the right places can build up a very positive image in the view of the general commons. But once again, history is filled with examples of both politicians and movie stars that fell from grace like the story of the Hollywood actor giving in to the pressures of fame and fortune. With people, just as with products and services, image is certainly important, but without positive substance behind the image, failure is close.

To summarize, it is clear that an appealing image is extremely important to success, whether that image is related to selling a product or service or to the “selling” of a person. But image is only half of the equation. What lies behind that image is every bit as important as the image itself —— the person or product must deliver on that image or there is little chance for long-term success.

1.The downfall of the Arthur Andersen accounting firm is due to ________.

A. its previous images

B. its dishonesty in business

C. its bad management

D. its poor service

2.Why did some famous people fall from grace?___________

A. Their images were not well built up

B. They felt much pressure from the public.

C. They failed to live up to their images

D. They paid little attention to fame and fortune.

3.The structure of the passage is ________.

A: Argument P: Point C: Conclusion

科目:高中英語 來源:2016屆遼寧沈陽東北育才學校高三上學期模擬3英語試卷(解析版) 題型:閱讀理解

Even when you’re extremely busy, you aren’t using your time with 100% efficiency. There are gaps in everyone’s schedule where they aren’t doing anything important. Even if your schedule has no gaps, there is probably lots of time where you aren’t working as fast or as effectively as you possibly could.

Why aren’t you completely efficient? It’s because time isn’t the limiting factor. If it were the limiting factor, people could work non-stop without breaks or any unproductive distractions. Instead, people, even those who are highly productive, need to take breaks, occasionally procrastinate(拖延) and slow down on tasks throughout the day.

The real and most important limiting factor for productivity is your energy levels to pay attention. Energy levels limit your productivity because when you’re tired, you can have ample time and still not get everything done. Your attention ability is also limited, because even if there are a million things that need to be done, you can only focus on one or two at a time.

You might not be able to insert another 4-5 hours into your schedule without making some sacrifices. But even extremely busy people can add an hour or two into their schedule without cancelling anything. The reason it’s hard to “find time” isn’t a lack of time. It’s because you don’t have enough energy left to focus on something else that needs to fit into your day.

I first suspected time wasn’t the real problem during an extremely busy period in my life over a year ago. I was insanely busy, but at that time I still exercised regularly. I had daily-to-do lists with over twenty items, and I still found time to exercise. However, after a few weeks off, due to illness, stopped exercising. I was not busy by any standards, in fact, my schedule was incredibly light. Despite this free time, I found it hard to find time to exercise. It seemed to get pushed later and later into my schedule until it was gone. How can I explain this odd experience? I believe you have known it.

1.If someone can’t work with 100% efficiency, the most important limiting factor is ______.

A. a schedule without gaps B. breaks and distractions

C. the limited time D. the limited energy

2.According to paragraph 4, everyone, including the extremely busy people, can ______.

A. work without any rest

B. focus on many things at a time

C. find some more time in a day

D. do some exercise regularly

3.After a few weeks off, what was the change of the writer’s life?

A. He had a longer daily to-do lists with over twenty items.

B. He stopped doing exercise because of the lack of energy.

C. He found it hard to find time to exercise because he was busier.

D. He pushed most of the things later and later in his schedule.

4.The writer gives the example of himself in the last paragraph in order to ___________.

A. prove what the real limiting factor is

B. show us how busily he needs to work

C. explain how important a healthy body is

D. tell us what an odd experience he has

任務型閱讀

請閱讀下列短文,并根據(jù)所讀內(nèi)容在文章后表格中的空格里填入一個最恰當?shù)膯卧~。

注意:每個空格只填一個單詞。

Bird migration (遷徙)

The man reason for migration or movement is food; for example, some birds may choose not to migrate if they are fed through the cold months Changes in the day length are signals for migration and relate to the physical changes in the birds. Birds will also display restlessness and increase their fat deposition(沉積). During shorter days in the fall, birds will return to warmer areas where they find adequate food supply.

Many smaller insect-eating birds migrate large distances usually at night. They may feed for a new days before continuing their course of travel. An advantage for night migrating is that it minimizes the threat of predators(食肉動物), allowing the birds to feed during the day and avoid overheating.

The migration for these birds is based on a number of different senses. Many birds use the sun as a compass. The ability to detect magnetic field (磁場), use of visual landmarks, as well as their sense of smell are used to help travel during migration. Bird migration is a strong genetic factor in terms of timing and route, which can be influenced by temperature. Migratory birds may use two tools to find their destinations; innate capability(genetically programmed) and experience. A first-timer migrant(候鳥) flies according to the Earth’s magnetic field, but does not know how far it will take until it grows accustomed to the journey and is able to use its other capabilities. With experience it learns various landmarks often called “mapping”.

Migration is mainly seen in the Northern Hemisphere and less obvious in the Southern Hemisphere. This is due to the lack of significant weather changes and the continual supply of food for the birds. A common pattern in migration involves flying north in the spring to bread(繁殖)during the summer and traveling to the south in the fall into warmer regions. No two species follow the exact route from beginning to end. Migrations narrow into one or more preferred routes or often called “flyways”. Flyways mainly follow coasts, sometimes rives, or mountain ranges. There are four major North American flyways; the Atlantic, the Mississippi, the Central and the Pacific Flyways. The flyways are not defined in their boundaries and at times may be combined into one.

In fact, long distance migrants move away from each other as young birds and form attachments to potential breeding and wintering sites. Once the site attachment is made, birds show high site-faith, visiting the same sites year after year. You will want to ensure your nesting boxes are cleaned out and available when these birds return to keep the cycle going for these migrating species.
