Dear Sam,
How time flies! I do miss you and other former friends. I’m very excited to receive your letter and I’d like to tell you about my after-school life.
After a period of time, I’m now used to my high school life, though it was a bit challenging for me at first. Usually, I spend forty-one percent of my spare time on sports, mainly badminton and basketball. I also like reading books that have something to do with literature. So reading takes up twenty percent of my spare time. And another thirty percent of my spare time is spent in tidying my dormitory, such as cleaning the windows, arranging the books on the shelves and so on. For the rest of the time, I make use of it to do some other things, for example, sometimes I do some shopping with my classmates.
All in all, high school is much more than just study. It is a time of discovery, learning and hard work!
Love,
Anna

“No, no, no, dear, I want that wrapped in red paper.” A middle-aged woman came through my line and talked to me as if my IQ were that of a grade school kid. When I first started working, it was simply a way to decrease (減少) the time I spent at home and make my parents happy. I never thought that a year and a half later, I would still be at Marshalls, waiting for this woman to get through my line.
I smiled and said, “Oh, that’s no problem.” She bent over the counter to look at the computer and made sure I was doing my job correctly. Her sweater grazed my hand and she smiled like she meant well. I wanted to roll my eyes but instead I just smiled. Ever since I started working here, I’ve tried not to let people like her get to me. And forget judging a book by its cover, because I have been proved wrong time and time again. The wealthy middle-aged women were far ruder than the teenage boys. At first, I was constantly surprised. Now, I tried not to even guess how the person coming near my line was going to act, because it was never the way I imagine.
I never expected people to be so rude and at the same time nice. But for every rude person I saw, at least five pleasant customers came through my line.
“Here you go,” I handed the woman her receipt and hoped her $5 wine glass was wrapped to her liking. “Have a nice day!” I said. And just as I thought I was fed up, the next customer came through. “She had about one more minute and I was going to tell her to get out of line,” she whispered (小聲說) to me with a smile.
1.Why did the writer work at Marshalls?
A. To have more time to go out.
B. To make money for the family.
C. To find a way to be happy.
D. To improve her IQ on doing business.
2.What surprised the writer in her work at first?
A. The rich customers behaved themselves well.
B. The young boys could be both rude and nice.
C. Some rich women customers were more impolite.
D. Wealthy women are pleasant customers.
3.It can be inferred that the middle-aged woman .
A. admired the writer for the good service
B. was a customer easy to deal with
C. had patience to do the shopping
D. cared much about the wrapping of goods
4.What the next customer said implied that .
A. she was angry with the middle-aged woman
B. she couldn’t wait one more minute in line
C. she would drive the middle-aged woman away
D. she might get out of the line for a while

Parents today are wealthier than their parents and they want their children to have more than what they had. Yet parents often to give their children what they had when they were young.

In today’s society, it is far easier to make children lose concentration than to teach personal development and that’s a common problem. For example, it is much easier for parents to buy a new toy or turn on the television for their children than to their curiosity (好奇)in a natural way. Basically, the easiest method for parents to teach patience to their children is not by them things, but by giving their children an opportunity to learn what they are interested in. Thus, parents can teach their children the same lessons that they have painfully learned too. The point is, realize what they lack and take action immediately.

Students who date (約會) in middle school have significantly worse study skills, are four times more likely to drop out of school and report twice as much alcohol and tobacco use than their single classmates, according to new research from the University of Georgia.
“Romantic relationships are a symbol of adolescence(青春期), but very few studies have examined how adolescents are different in the development of these relationships.” said Pamela Orpinas, study author and professor in the College of Public Health.
Orpinas followed a group of 624 students over a seven-year period from 6th to 12th grade. Each year, the group of students completed a survey indicating whether they had dated and reported the frequency of different behaviors, including the use of drugs and alcohol. Their teachers completed questionnaires (調(diào)查表) about the students' academic efforts. He found some students never or hardly ever reported dating from middle to high school, and these students had the best study skills according to their teachers. Other students dated infrequently in middle school but increased the frequency of dating in high school.
“At all points in time, teachers rated the students who reported the lowest frequency of dating as having the best study skills and the students with the highest dating as having the worst study skills,” according to the journal article. Study skills refer to behaviors that lead to academic success such as doing work for extra credit, being well organized, finishing homework, working hard and reading assigned chapters.
“Dating a classmate may have the same emotional complications of dating a co-worker,” Orpinas said, “When the couple break up, they have to continue to see each other in class and perhaps witness the ex-partner dating someone else. It is reasonable to think this could be linked to depression and divert (轉(zhuǎn)移) attention from studying.”
“Dating should not be considered a ceremony of growth in middle school.”O(jiān)rpinas concluded.

3.What can possibly happen to the school couples after they break up?
A. They will miss their ex-partners sometimes.
B. They don't want to see each other any longer.
