【題目】Hi Danny,
Greetings from the Great Barrier Reef! I’m riding on a sailing boat with some relatives as I write this. We’re diving here all next week. The reef is located in the Coral Sea that is off the northeast coast of Australia.
The reef is made up of many corals. Corals are very hard and made of many tiny animals called “polyps” that look like underwater flowers. The corals need help to eat. They have a special relationship with other small animals, “algae” (藻類), that take in sunlight and make energy for the coral. It’s the algae that give color to the corals. Because algae need sunlight, the corals are very close to the surface of the water.
Together, the many corals create a magical environment. They make a home for the animals that live in the sea. When I went diving the other day, I saw all types of different animals-dolphins, turtles (海龜) and sea snakes. I was surprised at being able to see some fish I see only in movies, like clown fish (小丑魚(yú)). As I am diving, I can feel the spirit of this magical place. It seems that these animals aren’t surprised to see me. Maybe they think I’m another fish!
Sadly, according to scientists, the Great Barrier Reef is dying because the water is getting warmer due to global warming. As the ocean gets warmer, the algae that live in the corals are cut off from the food they need for making energy. As a result, they leave the corals, and the corals die and lose their color. We see many dead white corals when we dive. We need to stop global warming and keep the water from getting hotter!
See you soon,
Gloria
【1】Where is Gloria writing from?
A.A sailing boat.B.Great Barrier Reef.
C.A hotel room.D.A relative’s house.
【2】What do algae do for corals?
A.They give sunlight to the corals.
B.They make energy for the corals to grow.
C.They capture fish for the corals to eat.
D.They allow the corals to move around.
【3】Why is the coral reef described as “magical”?
A.The author had never been there before.
B.The area can allow the animals to do magical things.
C.It’s another world with many animals and colors.
D.Corals grow only at the Great Barrier Reef.
【4】Why is the writer sad about the future of the corals?
A.She fears they will eventually die from global warming.
B.When corals die, they lose their color and turn to a boring white.
C.Not enough people will have a chance to see this magical place.
D.She’s sad that the corals and algae will break their relationship.

【題目】 Going to university is supposed to be a mind-broadening experience. That statement is probably made in comparison to training for work straight after school. But is it actually true? Jessika Golle of the University of Tubingen, in Germany reports in Psychological Science this week that those who have been to university indeed seem to leave with broader and more curious minds than those who have spent their immediate post-school years in vocational (職業(yè)的) training for work. However, it was not the case that university broadened minds. Rather, vocational training for work seemed to have narrowed them. The result is not quite what might be expected.
Dr. Golle came to this conclusion after she and a team of colleagues studied the early careers of 2,095 German youngsters. The team used two standardized tests to assess their volunteers’ personality traits (特點(diǎn)) including openness, conscientiousness (認(rèn)真) and so on, and attitudes such as realistic, investigative and enterprising twice, once towards the end of each volunteer’s time at high school, and then again six years later. Of the original group, 382 had to make a choice between the academic and vocational routes, and it was on these that the researchers focused. University beckoned for 212 of them. The remaining 170 chose vocational training and a job.
When it came to the second round of tests, Dr. Golle found that the personalities of both groups had not changed significantly. As for changes in altitude, again, none were noticeable in the university group. However, those who had chosen the vocational route showed marked drops in interest in tasks that are investigative and enterprising in nature. And that might restrict their choice of careers.
The changes in attitude that the researchers recorded were more worrying. Vocational training has always been what Germany prides itself on. If Dr Golle is correct, and changes in attitude brought about by the very training are narrowing people’s choices that is indeed a matter worthy of serious consideration.
【1】What does Dr. Colle’s research suggest?
A.Going to university is a mind-broadening experience.
B.College students pride themselves on their education.
C.Working straight after school narrows people’s minds.
D.Attending university has apparent effects on personalities.
【2】What does the underlined phrase “beckoned for” in Paragraph 2 mean?
A.Examined.B.Attracted.
C.Organized.D.Recognized
【3】What can we learn about vocational training?
A.it is essential to scientific research.
B.It leads to marked change in personality.
C.It helps to broaden the volunteers’ minds.
D.It causes less interest in investigative job.
【4】What is the author’s attitude towards the finding?
A.Skeptical.B.Optimistic.
C.Concerned.D.Unclear.

A real friend is likes sunshine, who can light up our sky when we are in trouble. In Grade 1 of my senior high, I had difficulties learning physics while my deskmate, Lucy, was good in it. One day, not answering the teacher’s easy question correct, I couldn’t help weep. Just then she leaned over and whispered? “Take it easy but I’ll help you after class!” I smiled through my tears like the sun through rain and she smiles, too. Later, whenever it was convenient to us, she would offer help me, with an encouraged smile on her face. Soon I made a great progress. Meanwhile, we became close friends.

【題目】Look at the map of Spain and point at the center. You've located the country's capital and one of Europe's most beautiful cities: Madrid. This popular destination is considered a city of contrasts with its abundant historic sites, resting in the shadows of modern skyscrapers.
History
This city of over 3 million people is proud of Western Europe's largest royal palace, and some consider it to be Madrid's most beautiful building.
Inside the Royal Palace 2,800 rooms are decorated in glory with museum-quality furniture and artworks. Tourists can tour 50 of these large and splendid rooms.
Art
The Internationally respected Prado Museum is the largest and most impressive art gallery in Spain. Opened in 1819, it is filled with works of art that feature the world's most comprehensive collection of Spanish paintings.
Shopping
Madrid has some of Europe's best shopping, and potential buyers love to look through the stores looking for bargains. But for 500 years, shoppers have gathered to an extremely large outdoor flea market known as the Rastro where they find everything from antiques to CDs.
Entertainment
No trip to Madrid is complete without seeing a performance of Spain's famous art form, flamenco. Every day, flamenco performers sing, dance or play the guitar in small cafes and grand theaters alike.
Food
Madrid has a wide variety of restaurants, but because the Spanish typically eat late at about 9 or 10 p.m., it's difficult to find good dinner food earlier. If you get hungry before then, the best solution is to try a tapas bar where light snacks are served. Be sure to try the jamon, a kind of dry-cured ham: Spain is famous for it.
【1】What do we know about the Royal Palace in Madrid?
A. It has 50 rooms for visit.
B. It can hold 2, 800 people.
C. It's been visited by 3 million people.
D. It is thought to be the largest in Europe.
【2】What kind of market is “the Rastro”?
A. For discount.
B. For artworks.

D. To sell antiques and CDs.
【3】What is a must when travelling in Madrid?
