The other day I decided to come home early because it was such a beautiful day. The      were outside playing in my apartment complex (公寓大樓) and the ice cream truck was whistling its tune. As I       slowly to avoid an accident, I noticed a little boy       at the ice cream truck. He didn’t get anything and he walked away with a       look on his face. I asked the ice cream seller what happened and he said the little boy had no      . I had no cash on me so I drove to my building and went upstairs to       some cash. When I found it, the ice cream seller was       waiting but the little boy had      .
I went in the      I thought he might have gone and I saw a       getting out of her vehicle. I asked her if she had a little boy and she said yes. She then told me that she and her son had gone to the grocery store the day before and had       ice cream but she did not have enough money to buy        .
She quickly went into the        to get her son, and when she        several minutes later, I realized that he was not the         little boy I had seen. This boy was a bit older and his sister came out with him. I took them both to the truck and let them         out what they wanted.
I        told the mom it was not the same boy I was talking about. I        myself to the mother properly and         my baby-sitting services free of charge if she ever needed them. 1 couldn't find the original boy        but 1 hope he gets some ice cream soon.

Expressing emotions is important rather than hiding them or keeping them inside. Everyone feels negative emotions such as anger and needs to deal with them. But there are healthy ways to express anger and ways to control it.
Shouting bad words at someone will hurt the other person or make them angry too. If you feel angry, it is best to think before you speak. Some people in the UK use the expression “take a deep breath and count to 10”, meaning take a pause, breathe deeply and let yourself calm down instead of getting angry.
Another expression people use to say they are controlling their anger is “biting their lip”. This means not letting the bad words come out of their mouth. If you cannot think of anything but bad words, it is probably best to “bite your lip.”
But sometimes letting all your anger out can be cathartic(宣泄情緒), as long as you do it at the right place and time. If you have just had a bad day, you could go into a room by yourself and scream or yell very loudly. Or if you want to hit someone or smash something, you could hit a pillow instead. Then after you let your frustration out this way, you’ll be able to deal with your problems more calmly.
If you do lose your temper with someone and swear at them, though, you need to apologize. One way to do this is to say “pardon my French”. This expression has been used for many years as an apology for bad language. Then you can calmly explain what made you upset.
小題1:According to the passage, what does the expression “pardon my French” mean?

小題3:Who is this passage most likely written for?
A.All kinds of people

B.They need to be expressed but in a way that hurts no one.

Many a young person tells me he wants to be a writer. I always encourage such people, but I also explain that there’s a big difference between “ being a writer” and “ writing”. In most cases these individuals are dreaming of wealth and fame, not the long hours alone at a computer. “You’ve got to want to write,” I say to them, “not want to be a writer.”
The reality is that writing is a lonely, private and poor paying affair. For every writer kissed by fortune there are thousands more whose longing is never rewarded. When I left a 20-year career in the US Coast Guard to become a free writer, I had no promise at all. What I did have was a friend who found me my room in a New York apartment building. It didn’t even matter that it was cold and had no bathroom. I immediately bought a used computer and felt a real writer.
After a year or so, however, I still hadn’t gotten a break and began to doubt myself. It was so hard to sell a story that barely made enough to eat. But I know I wanted to write. I had dreamed about it for years. I wasn’t going to be one of those people who die wondering. What if?  I would keep putting my dream to the test--- even though it meant living with uncertainty and fear of failure. This is the Shadowland of hope, and anyone with a dream must learn to live there.

“Why do we shout in anger?” a saint (圣人) asked his disciples (門徒). “Why do people shout at each other when they are upset?”
His disciples thought for a while, and one of them said, “Because we    16   our calm, we shout for that.”
“But, why do you shout when the other person is    17   next to you?” asked the saint. “Isn’t it possible to speak to him or her with a soft    18  ? Why do you shout at a person when you’re angry?”

Then the saint asked, “What    22   when two people fall in love? They don’t shout at each other but talk softly, why? Because their hearts are very close and the distance between them is very    23   .”
The saint continued, “When they love each other even more, what happens? They do not speak loudly, only whisper and they get    24   closer to each other in their love. At the time, I was getting started in my  42    of designing more humane facilities for animals at big farms and slaughterhouses(屠宰場(chǎng)). Many people would think that to even work at a slauterhouse would be inhumane, but they   43  that every human and animal   44  dies. In my mind, I had a(n)   45   of a way to make tht dying as   46  as possible.
Back in the 1970s, I went to fifty different feedlots and big farms in Arizona and Texas and       47  them work cattle. I cataloged the parts of each facility that   48  effectively. I took the best loading ramps, and other components and  49    them into an ideal new system. I get great   50  when a farmer tells me that my corral (畜欄)  51  helps cattle move through it quietly and   52 . When cattle stay calm, it means they are not scared. And that makes me feel I’ve    53  something important.
Some people might think if I could snap my   54  I’d choose to be “normal”. But, I wouldn’t want to give up my    55   to see in beautiful, precise pictures. I believe in them.
