Last Sunday my father and I went fishing along a river. We found the water very dirty that we could hardly catch any fish in it. A lot of factories along the river always poured their waste water and rubbish straightly into the river, which made the river polluting. In this way most of the fish in the river was killed. Unless the rivers all over the country are polluted like this, no living things will be exist in the water. As we all know, environmental pollution do great harm to living things and human beings. Now more and more people have realized what serious this problem is. Our government is doing her best to take measure to fight against pollution. We expect that water in every river will be made cleaner and cleaner before long.

請認真閱讀下列短文,并根據(jù)所讀內(nèi)容在文章后表格中的空格里填入一個最恰當?shù)膯卧~。
注意: 每個空格只填1個單詞。
There are many destructive (破壞性的) forces when it comes to nature, which have destroyed whole cities and killed many people. They’re really terrible, but they occur somewhat often, and this is why you see so many charities these days which focus their efforts on helping people who have been affected by natural disasters.
While the world is a very beautiful place to live in, there will always be parts of the world where natural disasters happen more often than in other places, where properties and lives are destroyed. Only the people who live in the country where tsunamis and earthquakes as well as other disasters occur experience these, and we can only imagine the suffering that they go through.
For some people out there, the world is cruel, but they have no choice but to stay where they are. A lot of the time people simply cannot afford to move away, as they might not be able to get a job when they leave.
In 2004, there was a tsunami in the Indian Ocean. A tsunami is a large wave that towers hundreds of feet into the air, and covers whole areas when it comes crashing down on to dry land. This particular tsunami was caused by an earthquake that happened in the middle of the sea, shooting the water away from the ground and towards dry land. This tsunami actually reached thirty meters in height, and was one of the worst tidal waves the world has ever seen. Over 200,000 people were hurt in the disaster.
In 2005, we also saw a hurricane happened in the United States. This hurricane was known as hurricane Katrina, and is perhaps the worst in the history of the world. It happened in 2005 and destroyed millions of properties in the area. It also took the lives of nearly 2,000 American people. It was known that for ten days, the wind swept through the area, meaning the most powerful country in the world became helpless in their attempts to save the people who were affected by the hurricane.
Finally, in 2008 we saw yet another natural disaster. This time it was a cyclone (旋風), which is similar to a hurricane but happens in a circular motion (圓周運動). This cyclone Nargis had been one of the strongest to have ever occurred, reaching a death toll of nearly 150,000 people.
All of these were terrible disasters that were unavoidable.

A good relationship with teachers today may help you in the future. You will need teachers’ written recommendations (推薦信) to apply to a college or for a job after high school. Teachers are another group of adults in your life who can look out for you, guide you, and provide you with advice. They are willing to answer questions and help you with your personal problems.

Show up for class on time, finishing all homework. Be respectful and ask questions. Show an interest in the subject. Show the teacher that you care.
If you’re having problems with the teacher, try to figure out why. If you don’t like the subject being taught, it can affect your relationship with the teacher. If you find a subject hard, talk to your teacher or a parent about extra tutoring. If you find it boring, talk to your teacher about some other ways of learning.
What if you just don’t like the teacher? When it comes to working with teachers, personality (個性) can come into play just as it can in any relationship. Learning to work with people you don’t connect with easily is a good skill no matter what your goals are.
Before you try to get out of a class to escape a teacher you don’t like, here are a few things you can do to make a difficult relationship work.
●Meet with the teacher and try to communicate what you’re feeling. Tell him or her what’s in your mind.
●Turn to the school counselor (指導老師), who can offer some suggestions for getting out of a
difficult relationship. Sometimes a counselor can act as a mediator between you and the teacher.
●If your relationship problems can’t be solved in school, then it’s time to tell your parents. Let them meet with your teacher and try to work them out.
Teachers are there for more than just homework and they know about more than just their subject matter. They can help you learn how to function as an adult and a lifelong learner. Sports and games are very useful for character training. In their lessons at the school, boys and girls may learn about such virtues like unselfishness, courage, discipline and love of one’s country. So what is learned in books cannot have the same deep effect on child’s character as what is learned by experience. As most of the pupils’ time is spent in classes study lessons, the ordinary day school can’t give many practical training for their lives in the future. So it is how the pupils do in the spare time that really prepare them to take their places in society as citizens when they grow up. Unless each of them learns to work for his team, and not for himself on the football field, he will later find it naturally to work for the good of his country instead only for his own benefit.
