The Super Bowl is the annual championship game of the National Football League (NFL).The game is the culmination(高潮)to a season that begins in the late summer of the previous calendar year. Normally, Roman numerals are used to identify each game, rather than the year in which it is held. For example, Super Bowl I was played on January 15, 1967, following the 1966 regular season. The single exception to this rule is Super Bowl 50, which was played on February 7, 2016, following the 2015 regular season. The next game, Super Bowl LII, scheduled for February 4, 2018, will follow the 2017 regular season.

The game was created as part of a merger(合并) agreement between the NFL and its then rival league, the American Football League (AFL). Currently, the Pittsburgh Steelers have the most Super Bowl victories, with six. The New England Patriots have the most Super Bowl appearances, with nine.

The day (usually the first Sunday in February) on which the Super Bowl is played, now considered as an unofficial American national holiday, is called "Super Bowl Sunday". It is the second-largest day for U.S. food consumption, after Thanksgiving Day. In addition, the seven most-watched broadcasts in U.S. television history are Super Bowls. In 2015, Super Bowl XLIX attracted an audience of 114.4 million.

Because of the high viewership, commercial airtime during the Super Bowl broadcast is the most expensive of the year, leading to companies regularly developing their most expensive advertisements for this broadcast. As a result, watching and discussing the broadcast's commercials has become a significant aspect of the event. In addition, popular singers and musicians including Michael Jackson, Madonna, Prince, Beyonce, Paul McCartney, The Rolling Stones, The Who, Whitney Houston, and Lady Gaga have performed during the event's pregame and halftime ceremonies.

Pappadavada, a popular restaurant in Kochi, India, is urging customers and the community to put their leftover food in a fridge located outside of the restaurant for the hungry to take.

People who are in need of a meal are encouraged to take from the fridge at any time, for any reason. Minu Pauline, who runs Pappadavada, has nicknamed the fridge, which was placed there on March 23 and is shaded by a neighboring tree, "tree of goodness".

The fridge is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week and stays unlocked. Pauline asks that people write the date they left the food, so those who take know how long it's been there. But most food doesn't stay in the fridge for long. In spite of a huge response from the community and plenty of donations, the fridge needs to be brought more in to replace in time. Pauling herself adds around 75% to 80% of food from Pappadavada a day in the fridge.

The idea to put a fridge on the street came to Pauline late on night when she saw a lady searching in a dustbin for food. She was especially saddened because that particular night, her restaurant had made a ton of food that they could have easily given the woman, instead of her searching for it. She felt like she contributed to waste, and avoiding waste is what Pauline pays her attention to.

"The only thing I want to say no is that people are actually buying food and putting it in the fridge. But I'd rather people put their food they bought but aren't going to eat in the fridge instead of the dustbin," she said.

1.What does the underlined part in Paragraph 2 refer to?

A. A tree planted on March 23.

B. The fridge outside for the hungry to take from.

C. The popular restaurant in Kochi, India.

D. A neighboring tree near Pappadavada.

2.What does the manager of the restaurant advise in the last paragraph?

A. People shouldn't throw foods into dustbin.

B. Everyone should always avoid waste.

C. People shouldn't buy food for that.

D. Everyone should help those in need.

3.What is special about Minu Pauline?

A. She runs her restaurant in a different way.

B. She saves food and helps others in a wise way.

C. She sets a higher standard to deal with waste.

D. She makes the community more friendly to each other.

As the leaves change color in autumn students return to school. As a frost cove’s the ground each night, we are busy planting vegetables in northern Wisconsin.

Five public school districts in northern Wisconsin recently built high tunnels(隧道)for the winter growing season. The schools’ high tunnels, made of metal frame and a plastic covering the raised beds, keep plants warm enough to extend the growing season through the winter and allow an earlier spring planting. Our very short growing season occurs almost entirely during the summer vacation months. This makes the high tunnels necessary in allowing students to gain experience of growing and marketing produce in a cold climate where production at this scale couldn’t otherwise happen during the school year.

During the summer, the high tunnels on school grounds still need to remain there. We developed the Agripreneur program(Agriculture + Entrepreneur)to support students’ work in the high tunnels during months when students are on holidays. This program was made possible by a farm and a university. Each summer, a pair of students will be hired from every high school to care for and sell a single crop in exchange for instruction from professional local farmers, growing experience, and a salary.

The Agripreneur program appeared for its first season during the summer of 2015. Students grew tomatoes that were sold to community members, local restaurants and the school cafeterias(食堂). The program met its goal of increasing the number of local vegetables consumed, both within the region and in school lunches. Sales to school cafeterias will continue through the winter as the high tunnels’ change to nutrient root vegetables, all grown by students.

We may live in winter, but with the recent addition of these school high tunnels, our students are able to eat the freshest local vegetables available—even during the coldest months.

1.What do we know about the school’s high tunnels?

A. They are actually greenhouses.

B. They are actually metal containers.

C. They are entirely used for planting vegetables in summer

D. They are mainly used as reading rooms for students.

2.High tunnels are being used in the school districts because of________.

A. students’ interest in planting. B. the larger need of crops there.

C. the short growing season there. D. no fresh vegetables available there.

3.The Agripreneur program was created to________.

A. get farmers to produce more crops.

B. check students’ work on the high tunnels.

C. get instructions from professional local farmers.

D. help students do their work in the high tunnels in holidays.

4.What can be the best title for the text?

A. Crops Are Planted in Winter

B. Students Are Becoming Scientists

C. Schools Have the Vegetable Market

D. New Growing Season Begins Under High Tunnels

Restaurants have been around in some form for most of human civilization. As far back as ancient Greece and Rome, there was a trend that inns and taverns(客棧) generally served food to people who had a reason to be away from home. 1. Although taverns and coffee houses were popular places to gather and share beverages in the 17th century, the idea of eating out for fun didn’t take off in Western society until the late 18th century.

Although McDonald’s was the first restaurant to use the assembly-line system, some people think of White Castle as the first fast-food chain. 2. At the time, most people considered the burgers sold at fairs, circuses, lunch counters and carts to be low-quality. Many people thought hamburger came from slaughterhouse(屠宰場) scraps and spoiled meat.

3. They built their restaurants so that customers could see the food being prepared. They painted the buildings white and even chose a name that suggested cleanliness. White Castle was most popular in the American East and Midwest, but its success helped give hamburger meat a better reputation nationwide.

The McDonald brothers opened their redesigned restaurant in 1948, and several fast-food chains that exist today opened soon after. 4. And Wendy’s opened in 1969. McDonald’s is now the world’s largest fast-food chain.

According to the National Restaurant Association, American sales of fast food totaled $163.5 billion in 2005. 5. Total sales for McDonald’s grew 5.6 percent in 2005, and the company now has 30,000 franchised stores in more than 120 countries.
