Not everyone in the world requires the same amount of living space. The amount of space a person needs around him is a cultural (文化的) difference, not an economic one. Knowing your own psychological (心理的) space needs is important because they strongly affect your choices, including, for example, the number of bedrooms in the home. If you were brought up in a two-child family and both you and your sister or brother had your own bedrooms, the chances are if you have two children or more, that you also will offer separate bedrooms for them. In America, for example, they train people to want to have their own rooms by giving them their own rooms when they are babies. This is very unusual in the world. In many other countries, the baby sleeps in the same bed with his parents or in bed near them.
The space in the home also shows a lot about psychological space needs. Some families gather closer to each other and the size of their house has nothing to do with it. Others have separate little corners where family members go to be alone.
Although it is true that psychological space needs are not decided by economic reasons, they sometimes have to be changed a little because of economic pressure(壓力). It is almost impossible, however, to completely change your psychological space needs.

閱讀理解

You would like to take good photographs of real-life situations but you have few deas for pictures.I suggest you look around you.The everyday world is full of scenes eing played by an ever-changing group of actors. You probably passed a dozen picture situations without noticing on your way to work this morning.

The realistic approach to photograph has been perfected in the past by such masters as Henri Cartier-Bresson and Bill Brandt. But while you can learn a great deal from looking at the work of others, any success you can hope to achieve in this field has to come from developing an individual approach.

The main requirement for any photographer has little to do with technical matters. You must develop an awareness of the world around you and the people who live in it, and you should learn to notice when a situation may develop to a point where you will be able to take a good picture. Those who have reached this happy state will be prepared when that moment comes, and will simply raise their camera quickly and shoot.Others who are not so aware will be struggling with camera cases and lens(鏡頭)caps.

Film manufactures must be delighted at the thought of the inexperienced photographer setting out in search of the right situation and the right moment. Many miles of costly material have passed through thousands of cameras as this endless search continues. But although a lot of this waste must be put down to inexperience, you'll find that even the professionals have to use a lot of films when they are out shooting.

Not every shot is going to be a winner. If you look at the work of even the best photographers, you'll notice dozens of pictures have had to be taken only because they lead up to the successful shot of a situation that the photographer has obviously been observing through the lens. You may find that you have taken one or two pictures after the right moment has passed as well. There is seldom more than one shot which stands out. There is just one point where it all comes together, and you often have to waste film to catch that precious moment.

(1)

According to the passage, one can become a better real-life photographer by ________.

[ ]

A.

watching other photographers at work

B.

learning about famous photographers

C.

just taking a great many photographs

D.

developing skills and ideas for yourself

(2)

The writer thinks that a photographer is required to ________.

[ ]

A.

go out and search for unusual situations

B.

be highly skilled in camera techniques

C.

be able to tell when a good situation might come

D.

have a camera which is easy and quick to use

(3)

Which of the following is TRUE?

[ ]

A.

The waste of film in photography is essential to the production of good pictures.

B.

Film manufacturers usually enjoy pictures by inexperienced photographers.

C.

Only amateur photographers waste film in taking pictures.

D.

The waste of film, which is the result of poor choice of subject, is expensive and unnecessary.

(4)

He was 11 years old and went fishing every chance he got from the dock at his family’s   cabin on an island in the middle of a New Hampshire lake.
On the day before the bass season opened, he and his father were fishing early in the evening, catching sunfish and perch (鱸魚)  with worms. Then he tied on a small silver lure(魚餌) and practiced casting. The lure struck the water and caused colored ripples in the sunset, then silver ripples as the moon rose over the lake.
When his peapole doubled over, he knew something huge was on the other end. His father watched with admiration as the boy skillfully worked the fish alongside the dock.
Finally, he very gingerly lifted the exhausted fish from the water. It was the largest one he had ever seen, but it was a bass. The boy and his father looked at the handsome fish, gills playing back and forth in the moonlight. The father lit a match and looked at his watch. It was 10 P.M.-- two hours before the season opened. He looked at the fish, then at the boy.
“You’ll have to put it back, son,” he said.
  “Dad!” cried the boy.
“There will be other fish,” said his father.
“Not as big as this one,” cried the boy.
He looked around the lake. No other fishermen or boats were anywhere around in the moonlight. He looked again at his father. Even though no one had seen them, nor could anyone ever know what time he caught the fish, the boy could tell by the clarity of his father’s voice that the decision was not negotiable(可協商的). He slowly worked the hook out of the lip of the huge bass and lowered it into the black water.
The creature swished its powerful body and disappeared. The boy suspected that he would never again see such a great fish.
That was 34 years ago. Today, the boy is a successful architect in New York City. His father’s cabin is still there on the island in the middle of the lake. He takes his own son and daughters fishing from the same dock.
And he was right. He has never again caught such a magnificent fish as the one he landed that night long ago. But he does see that same fish-again and again-every time he comes up against a question of ethics (道德規(guī)范).
【小題1】 Why did the father ask his son to put the perch back?

A.Because the father disliked the perch.
B.Because the father was afraid of being fined
C.Because the ethics must be obeyed.
D.Because the son was more experienced in fishing than his father.
【小題2】When does the architect (the father’s son) think of that perch put back?
A.When he takes his own and son and daughters fishing from the same dock.
B.When he builds many famous buildings.
C.When he pays a visit to his old father.
D.When he faces some problems about ethics.
【小題3】Which word can not be used to describe the boy’s father?
A.honestB.noble-mindedC.caringD.generous
