【2】A考查動詞。A.helped幫助;B.raised提升、喂養(yǎng);C.appeared顯現(xiàn)、出現(xiàn);D.washed洗刷。根據(jù)下文所述,一周三個晚上我和其他四個志愿者在廚房里幫忙。應(yīng)選A項,意為“幫忙(做飯)”。D項“洗刷”不確切。
【3】C 考查動詞。A.ordered命令、預(yù)定飯菜;B.bought買;C.cooked做飯;D.accomplished完成。cook hot meals for 45 people意為“為45口人做熱騰騰的飯”。ordered和bought雖用法上正確,但與上文提到的help in the kitchen不相符。故選C。

【題目】Sicily, an island of Italy, is home to beautiful beaches, outstanding food, and a bit of Italian history on every corner. It’s located just southwest of the Italian mainland and it’s the largest Mediterranean island. Controlled by many armies over the centuries, it became the site of Roman and Greek colonies(殖民地). Those cultures remain to this day.
As part of the Year of Italy in China, an exhibition of Sicilian culture is being held at the National Museum of China from April 29 to June 27. Although they have a rich culture and history, Sicilian people lead a simple life. Living on land with fertile (肥沃的) soil, most of them work in agriculture, fishing and of course tourism.
In Sicily, most stores and businesses are closed from one to four in the afternoon. Streets become crowded around five as people start to go out and engage in a variety of activities. They may take a walk to the shops, enjoy a pastry (糕點)or just meet up with friends.
Food is one of the great pleasures of Sicilian people. There is an old Sicilian saying: “With a contented stomach, your heart is forgiving. With an empty stomach you forgive nothing.”
People will go miles out their way to eat fresh seafood, such as tuna(金槍魚), swordfish(箭魚) and sardines(沙丁魚).
Pasta (意大利面)is the main food. Each region has its seasonal pasta dishes, and every family cook their own specialty. Bread is common too. 【題目】You know eating fruit and vegetables does good. But do you know it can also make you look good? People who increased their intake over just six weeks developed a healthy glow and appeared more attractive, researchers found. Scientists at St Andrews University found eating them slightly increased yellow and red pigments in the volunteers' skin. They monitored the food intake of 35 people and took pictures of their faces, arms and hands using a sensitive camera at the start, and after three and six weeks. Increasing their intake of greens by 2.9 portions a day was found to make the person look healthier and an extra 3.3 portion could enhance their attractiveness, when their photographs were rated by others.
Fruit and vegetables are rich in carotenoids (類胡蘿卜素),which are known to protect against cell damage from pollution and UV rays, and can also prevent age-related diseases including heart disease and cancer. But while it was known eating extreme amounts of certain vegetables such as carrots could turn skin orange ,it was not known a small increase was perceptible(被覺察)to others - and was seen as appealing.
A camera measured changes to the skin's redness, yellowness and lightness, and found it significantly changed in people who naturally increased their intake. These changes were not evident in three weeks. Using light sensors, the researchers showed these red and yellow hues were linked with the levels of carotenoids in their skin. There are hundreds of carotenoids but those thought to have the most dramatic effect are lycopene(番茄紅素)-which gives tomatoes and red peppers their red colour - and beta-carotene found in carrots as well as broccoli, squash, and spinach. Skin colour is also affected by chemicals called polyphenols(多元酚),found in apples, blueberries and cherries, which cause blood rush to the skin surface.
【1】What do we know from the research?
A. If you take in a little more fruit and vegetables, you will obviously look more attractive in three weeks.
B. The researchers took the pictures of the 35 people in the research at different stages.
C. Increasing your intake of greens by 2.9 portions a day can greatly improve your health.
D. People who increased their intake of greens by 3.3 portions a day were found the most attractive after six weeks.
【2】Which of the following is NOT the function of carotenoids?
A. They can protect against cell damage from pollution and UV rays.
B. They can prevent heart disease and cancer.
C. They can prevent age-related diseases.
D. They can keep you in good health.
【3】Which of the statements is NOT TRUE according to the passage?
A. We've already known eating extreme amounts of carrots can turn skin orange.
B. We knew in the past that eating a few more carrots could make us look appealing.
C. The research showed the improvement in skin is linked with the levels of carotenoids in it
D. Among hundreds of carotenoids, lycopene is thought to have the most dramatic effect on the skin.
【4】We can infer from the passage that _____
A. Skin's redness, yellowness and lihtness make a person look more healthy and attractive.
B. Carotenoids have the same effect as lycopene.
C. It is carotenoids that give tomatoes and red peppers their red colour.
D. Both beta-carotene and polyphenols affect skin colour by causing blood rush to the skin surface.
【5】Which can be the best title of the passage?
A. Eating fruit and vegetables does good .
B. Fruit and vegetables are rich in carotenoids.
C. How to become attractive.
D. Eating fruit and vegetables makes you look good

【題目】In Western countries people have been using the installment (按揭)plan since the first half of the twentieth century. Today, a large number of families in Great Britain buy furniture, household goods and cars by installments .In the U.S., the figure is much higher than in Great Britain, and people there spend over 10 percent of their income on the installment plan.
The price of an article bought on installments is always higher than the price that would be paid by cash. There is a charge for interest. The buyers pays one quarter or one third of the price as a down payment when the goods are delivered to him. He then makes regular payments, weekly or monthly, until the full price is paid up. The legal ownership of the goods remains with the seller until the final payment has been made.
Installment buying has advantages and disadvantages. It can help couples with small incomes to furnish their homes and start housekeeping, It increases the demand for goods, and in this way helps business and employment. There is ,however, the danger that when business is bad, installment buying may end suddenly, making business much worse. This may result in a great increase in unemployment. If the people on the installment plan lose their jobs, they will probably not be able to make their payments. If great numbers of people are not able to pay their installment debts there is a possibility that businessmen cannot collect their debts and will therefore lose money. If businessmen lose money or fail to make a satisfactory profit, it becomes more likely to have a depression. This is why, in some countries, the government controls the installment plan by fixing the amount of the down payment to discourage people from buying more than they can pay for on the installment plan.

A.the buyer has to pay extra money as interest
B.the delivery of the goods charges extra money
C.the buyer has to pay a down payment

【3】What will happen to a buyer if he fails to make the full payment for an item bought on installments?
A.He might lose his job
B. He will stop owning the item he has bought
C. He will have to sell what he has bought
D. He will go into debt
【4】The advantages of installment buying might include all the followings EXCEPT that _________.
