閱讀下列短文,從每題所給的四個(gè)選項(xiàng)(A、B、C和D)中,選出最佳選項(xiàng)答題卡上將該項(xiàng)涂黑。
A
My sister and I shared a typical sisterly relationship: we couldn’t stand each other.Or, to be honest, she couldn’t stand me.I took her as a hero.My clothes mysteriously looked like hers, and even my words tended to copy those I heard from her.Any sort of talk we had usually became a fighting, and try as I might, my sister had an extra six years worth of rude vocabulary.
After a while, I stopped trying to impress her and learned to be totally indifferent(冷漠的);we soon fell into a sad pattern — I avoided her, she paid no attention to me, and deep inside, it hurt. She was only a sister in name.I truly believed that we would forever be apart, two housemates without conversation, two strangers without warmth.
I still remember the day I learned to ride a bike.I had received the bike that Christmas, which was great, until I realized I had no idea how to ride it.My mom had long since abandoned any attempt to teach me; I had proved to be a frustrating student.I had to learn by myself, a little bit each day, but unsuccessfully. On that day I was so disappointed that I threw my bike aside and began to cry, I guess that was what caused my sister to come outside. At first I was nervous, as I thought she would begin to laugh at me.She did not.She gently picked my bike up.That was the beginning. She fearlessly held my hand while the tears dried on my cheeks. She never once let me fall. And for three hours — three wonderful hours — we learned to ride my bike.No shouting. No fighting. No arguing.
That day I learned that my sister was human — how else could she have been my teacher? It was a life-changing experience. We still occasionally have our quarrels, but since that day, it’s been easier to get along because we have an unspoken respect for each other.
56.From the first paragraph, we can infer that _____.
A.the writer’s sister usually won the fighting
B.the writer was not always honest with her sister
C.the writer showed little respect for her sister
D.the writer’s sister had a good memory
57.When the writer failed to impress her sister, she _____.
A.felt hurt and treated her sister as a stranger
B.decided to be indifferent to her sister
C.didn’t talk with any member of the family
D.kept apart from her sister for a long time
58.What caused the writer to cry when she learned to ride a bike?
A.She fell off the bike and hurt herself seriously.
B.Her mother refused to buy her a bike.
C.She couldn’t learn how to ride a bike by herself.
D.Her sister laughed at her old bike.

Dear Ms Jordan,
I am sorry for misbehaving in class .I won't do it again.
Tyler Vincent Turner
This is a letter of apology that my six-year-old son Tyler wrote to his teacher .It was simple enough and took less than five minutes to write, but I hoped the message I was sending to Tyler was one that would have a lasting effect.
When I made the decision, I hoped it was the right thing to do .It turned out that Ms Jordan was thrilled when she received the note . She told me that in her 25 years as a teacher no student had ever written her a letter of apology for misbehavior . She literally looked like she was going to cry.
I want him to realize that he is responsible for his behavior, good or otherwise .That’s why I decided to make him write the letter of apology .I didn’t tell him what to write--- the words were his own. And he did so without any reluctance and gave it to his teacher this morning with a verbal apology. If it happens again, he’ll have to write another letter. Taking responsibility for your own actions should start as young as possible and a six-year-old boy is certainly old enough.

SELF STUDY TIPS
However difficult you find it to arrange your time, it will pay off in the long run if you set aside a certain part of the day for studying - and stick to it.  71  . But don’t forget to make sure that you have enough left for recreational activities or simply to be “with” yourself: reading a novel or watching a television programme.

Make sure that all the physical equipment that you use , such as a desk, chair etc. is at good height for you. If you use a personal computer, there are plenty of guidelines available from the movement on angles, lighting and the like.   74  .
If you are working on topic your teacher has set, but finding it hard to concentrate, it may be that you actually need to take your mind right off it for a period of time.  75   .After a period away from the test, having not thought about it at all, you may return to it refreshed and full of ideas.

The young woman seated next to us at the sushi(壽司) bar gave off an alien air; her looks and style, we thought, made it likely that she was not American born.
But then she spoke in perfect American English, with the typical characteristic of many young Californians.
As it turns out, however, she wasn’t from these parts after all; she was born in Iran and spoke only Farsi(波斯語(yǔ)) until her arrival here two years ago. What classes, we wondered, had she attended to learn the language so well?
“I didn’t,” she said. “I used Rosetta Stone.”
Those yellow boxes sold at shopping-mall and airport newspaper stands may be the most recognizable example of PC-based language learning, but it certainly isn’t the only one.
With the growth of broadband connectivity and social networks, companies have introduced a wide range of Internet-based language learning products, both free and fee-based, that allow students to interact in real time with instructors in other countries, gain access to their lesson plans wherever they are in the world, and communicate with pen pals who are also trying to remember if bambino means baby.
Learning a language sometimes seems as difficult as dieting. The solution is to figure out how to stay interested after the curiosity wears off.
To fight against boredom, online language programs have introduced crossword puzzles, interactive(交互的) videos and other games to reward users for making progress.
Online courses are either fee-based, free or a combination. Starter kits(入門套件) of fee-based programs may cost just a few hundred dollars, but the cost to reach higher levels of comprehension and speaking can easily be $1,000.
While that may sound expensive, language company managers say it isn’t; college courses often cost many thousands of dollars to reach the same level.
So, cost aside, how do you choose which program to use? The answer is that one size doesn’t fit all.
55.   Which of the following is the fact about “Rosetta Stone”?
A.      Rosetta Stone is only a special stone with the name Rosetta on
B.      Rosetta Stone is a free PC-based language learning product.

A.      the woman is one of many successful language learners
B.      the woman likes Rosetta Stone very much
C.      many people are benefiting from the Internet language learning products
D.     Rosetta Stone is one of the successful PC-based language instructors

A.      they offer the English learners all kinds of free courses
B.      learners can communicate with teachers at any time
C.      students can compare notes with their e-pals about language study

Susan Sontag(1933—2004) was one of the most noticeable figures in the world of literature. For more than 40 years she made it morally necessary to know everything—to read every book worth reading, to see every movie worth seeing. When she was still in her early 30s,publishing essays in such important magazines as Partisan Review, she appeared as the symbol of American culture life, trying hard to follow every new development in literature, film and art. With great effort and serious judgment,Sontag walked at the latest edges of world culture.
Seriousness was one of Sontag’s lifelong watchwords(格言),but at a time when the barriers between the well-educated and the poor-educated were obvious, she argued for a true openness to the pleasure of pop culture. In “Notes Camp”, the 1964 essay that first made her name, she explained what was then a little—known set of difficult understandings, through which she could not have been more famous.“Notes on Camp”,she wrote, represents “a victory of ‘form’ over ‘content’, ‘beauty’ over ‘morals’ ”.
By conviction(信念)she was a sensualist(感覺論者),but by nature she was a moralist(倫理學(xué)者),and in the works she published in the 1970s and 1980s,it was the latter side of her that came forward. In “Illness as Metaphor”—published in 1978,after she suffered cancer—she argued against the idea that cancer was somehow a special problem of repressed personalities(被壓抑的性格),a concept that effectively blamed the victim for the disease. In fact,re-examining old positions was her lifelong habit.
In America, her story of a 19th century Polish actress who set up a perfect society in California, won the National Book Award in 2000. But it was as a tireless,all-purpose cultural view that she made her lasting fame.
“Sometimes,” she once said,“I feel that,in the end,all I am really defending…is the idea of seriousness,of true seriousness.”And in the end,she made us take it seriously too.
