I have a friend which always has smile in his face. She seems to be never angry with others. All the guys like to talk to him and they are willed to help him. Keep the smiling face not only means the person has the good personality, but means the person has the positive attitude life.

1.like—likes

2. kindly—kind

3. other—others

4. so去掉

5. with— without

6. which—who/that

7. she— he

8. willed—willing

9.keep—keeping

10. attitude后加towards/to

考查時(shí)態(tài)本句是由who引導(dǎo)的定語(yǔ)從句,關(guān)系代詞who作主語(yǔ),指的是先行詞the one,是單數(shù),所以謂語(yǔ)動(dòng)詞like也要用第三人稱(chēng)單數(shù)形式。故like—likes.

兩句話(huà)已經(jīng)有because連接,成為一個(gè)含有原因狀語(yǔ)從句的復(fù)合句子,而并列連詞so多余,故把so去掉.

固定短語(yǔ)without any doubt(毫無(wú)疑問(wèn)),故with— without.

定語(yǔ)從句,先行詞是friend(人們),是指人,所以要用關(guān)系代詞whothat指代人,在從句中作主語(yǔ),故which—who/that.

根據(jù)下文所說(shuō),我的這個(gè)朋友是一男性,所以要用he指代他,故she— he.

固定短語(yǔ):be willing to do sth.(愿意做某事),故willed—willing.

固定搭配:attitude towards/to(對(duì)待……的態(tài)度),介詞to后接賓語(yǔ)life,attitude后加towards/to.

Why Don’t Students Like School?

Most of the teachers I know entered the job because they loved school as children. 1 However, they are understandably discouraged when they find that some of their students don’t like school much, and that they, the teachers, have great difficulty inspiring them. Why is it difficult to make school enjoyable for students?

As a matter of fact , the brain is not designed for thinking. It’s designed to ask you not to have to think, because the brain is actually not very good at thinking. Thinking is slow and unreliable. 2People like to solve problems, but they do not like to work on problems that cannot be solved. If schoolwork is always just a bit too difficult for a student, it should be no surprise that he doesn’t like school much.3

What is the nature of being human? 4 Many people would answer that it is our ability to reason that makes us different—birds can fly, fish can swim, and humans can think . (By thinking I mean solving problems, reasoning, reading something complex, or doing any mental work that requires some effort.) Shakespeare thought highly of our cognitive(認(rèn)知) ability in Hamlet: “What a piece of work is man! How noble in reason!” Some three hundred years later, however, Henry Ford came up with a quite different opinion, “Thinking is the hardest work there is, which is the probable reason why so few people are interested in it.” They both had a point of view. Humans are good at certain types of reasoning, especially compared to other animals, but we hardly often exercise those abilities. 5Thinking is not only painful, as Ford noted, it’s also slow and unreliable.

A. A cognitive scientist would add another point of view, “Humans don’t think very often because our brains are designed not for thought but for escaping from thought.”

B. What sets us apart from other species?

C. Of course you could make each decision with care and thought.

D. However, people enjoy thinking if it is successful.

E. Therefore, teachers should reconsider how they encourage their students to think, in order to make thinking enjoyable enough for students to go after.

F. If we are all so bad at thinking, how does anyone get through the day?

G. They want to help their students feel the same excitement and passion for learning that they felt.

Back home from the Navy, I started school at Greenville College in my hometown of Illinois. I’d been out of high school for four years, but my high school headmaster, Mr. Gardner, invited me to a Valentine’s Day dance party at school. The thought of seeing my former teachers was exciting. So I agreed.

When Friday came, I cleaned up, dressed up and drove to the high school gym. I chatted with my teachers and approached Mr. Gardner to thank him before leaving. Just then, the band started playing and a young girl stood up to sing. One look at her and I was crazy — I had never seen such a beautiful girl!

I asked Mr. Gardner who she was, and he answered, “That’s Marilyn Riley, Cut Riley’s daughter.” I was shocked to say the least. They lived just around the comer from me. I walked across the gym floor to introduce myself, “Hi, Fm Jack Joseph.’’

“I know who you are,” was her not-too-friendly response.

“Would you like to dance?” I asked. “No! I’m working,” she shot back.

“Can I call you next week for a movie date?” I asked. “No” was her response.

For the next month I phoned, trying to set up a date. She always had the same answer: No. Then one rainy afternoon in March as I was driving home after basketball practice, I saw Marilyn, walking with no umbrella, no raincoat and no hat. I pulled alongside her and asked if she needed a ride, half expecting her to say no. Instead, she stepped over the roadside and sat down on the seat next to me. It was only a few blocks to her house, but after pulling into her driveway we talked for 45 minutes. It was magic from then on.

1Why did Jack decide to attend the party?

A. The party was held to welcome him back home.

B. Marilyn would be introduced to him at the party.

C. He could meet some of his former teachers there.

D. They gathered there to celebrate Valentine’s Day.

2What was the author’s attitude towards the party?

A. Casual. B. Formal.

C. Passive. D. Worried.

3We can infer from the text that .

A. Jack once served in the army after high school

B. it took Jack 45 minutes to drive Marilyn home

C. Jack and Marilyn were familiar with each other

D. it was Marilyn’s cold attitude that interested Jack

4How would the story most probably develop in the end?

A. Marilyn would fall in love with Jack.

B. Jack would make great achievements in college.

C. Marilyn would become a famous singer.

D. Jack would have frequent conflicts with Marilyn.
