If we want to be a successful one, besides hard-working, we are supposing to set up for a clear goal as well. James Watson also suggest that every child who is curiously about science should make your effort to realize the dream of becoming a scientist.

【答案】

【1】conducted后加an

【2】talk改為talking

【3】On改為in

【4】needed改為need

【5】most改為more

【6】scientist改為scientists

【7】supposeing改為supposed

【8】去掉for

【9】suggest改為suggests

【10】your改為their/his

短語(yǔ)what's more而且,該短語(yǔ)在句中表示遞進(jìn)關(guān)系。

固定短語(yǔ)be supposed to do sth應(yīng)該做某事,相當(dāng)于should do sth。

【10】your改為their/his 句意:James Watson建議每一個(gè)對(duì)科學(xué)好奇的孩子都應(yīng)該努力實(shí)現(xiàn)他們成為科學(xué)家的 夢(mèng)想。本句的主語(yǔ)是every child,所以使用代詞their或者h(yuǎn)is指代every child。

【題目】Growing up, I wanted to be just like my mom. She was kind. People always seemed to feel comfortable in her presence. For years, she was a volunteer in our community. I loved going to the local nursing home with her where she taught a ceramic (陶藝)class.

On one summer day, Mama told me to get changed and meet her at the car. I had planned to spend the day at the lake with friends. Why did she have to ruin everything? I imagined the cool lake water. Annoyed, I climbed into the car and slammed(砰然關(guān)上) the door closed. We sat in silence. I was too upset to make conversation.

“Tasha, would you like to know where we are going?” Mama asked calmly.

“No,” I said.

“We are going to volunteer at a children’s shelter today. I have been there before and I think it would benefit you,” she explained.

When we reached the shelter, Mama rang the doorbell. Moments later, we were greeted by a woman. She led us to the front room where all of the children were playing. I noticed a baby whose body was scarred with iron marks. I was told it was because she wouldn’t stop crying. Most of the children had obvious physical scars (疤痕). Others hid their emotional wounds.

As I took in the place, I felt a gentle pull on my shirt. I looked down to see a little girl looking up at me. “Hi. You want to play dolls with me?” she asked. I looked over at Mama for reinforcement. She smiled and nodded. I turned back and said, “Sure.” Her small hand reached up and held mine, as if to comfort me.

My mom taught me a valuable lesson that summer. I returned to the shelter with her several times. During those visits, some of the children shared their troubled pasts with me and I learned to be grateful for what I had. Today as I struggle to instill (逐漸灌輸) these values in my own child, I reflect back to that experience. It was a time that I will never forget.

【題目】根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容,從短文后的七個(gè)選項(xiàng)中選出能填入空白處的最佳選項(xiàng)。選項(xiàng)中有兩項(xiàng)為多余選項(xiàng)。

There is distinction between reading for information and reading for understanding. 【1】The first sense is the one in which we read newspapers, magazines, or anything else. 【2】Such materials may increase our store of information, but they cannot improve our understanding. And clearly we don’t have any difficulty in gaining the new information, for our understanding was equal to them before we started. Otherwise, we would have felt the shock of puzzlement.

The second sense is the one in which we read something that at first we do not completely understand. Here the thing to be read is at the first sight better or higher than the reader. The writer is communicating something that can increase the reader’s understanding.【3】 Otherwise one person could never learn from another. Here “l(fā)earning” means understanding more, not remembering more information.

What are the conditions in this kind of reading? First, there is inequality in understanding. 【4】 Besides, his book must convey something he possesses and his potential readers lack. Second, the reader must be able to overcome this inequality in some degree. And he should always try to reach the same level of understanding with the writer. If the equality is approached, success of communication is achieved.

【5】 It is the least demanding and requires the least amount of effort. Everyone who knows how to read can read for entertainment if he wants to. In fact, any book that can be read for understanding or information can probably be read for entertainment as well.

A. The writer should have a better communicating skill.

B. Such communication between unequals must be possible.

C. We can get access to the content of those materials easily.

D. The writer must be “superior” to the reader in understanding.

E. Thus, we can employ the word “reading” in two distinct senses.

F. Reading for entertainment is capable of increasing our understanding for information.

G. Besides gaining information and understanding, there’s another goal of reading—entertainment.

【題目】The trouble with school is that you can’t choose the people you get to see every day. If you’re unlucky enough to be stuck with classmates who don’t really “get” you, you’ve just got to try to make the best of it.

But that doesn’t mean you need to “fit in”, or at least in the way that people think. If you try to transform yourself into a clone of everyone else, it won’t help you make friends. It’ll just make you feel like a fake.

You also shouldn’t shut down or refuse to be friends with everyone who doesn’t like you. If you do that, you’ll just make yourself miserable. Instead, you’ve got to work on being comfortable and confident with whom you are while ignoring all the haters. Keep on speaking up, asking questions and getting to know people better. If you send out positive energy, then people will generally send some back to you. A couple of them will stay the same, and you’re allowed to forget about them.

If you feel like you’re doing all that but still not getting anywhere, then don’t give up. Just expand your circle. Get a part-time job at a cool-looking place, join an after-school art class or youth group—do whatever it takes to find a couple of like-minded people to connect with. Even if you don’t find anyone right away, you’ll still be getting some more social experiences under your belt, and that’s always a good thing.

A fun book called Uncool, by Erin Elisabeth Conley, has some tips for people like you who want to stay positive at school while being true to your personality:

·Throw caution to the wind.

·Don’t bear others’ mistakes.

·Have patience with people who are different from you.

·Don’t change just because someone else thinks you should.

·Know that even though you may be a misfit, there’s always some place where you will be welcomed in the world.

【1】According to the author, what should you do if you meet people who don’t appreciate you?

A. Just give up.

B. Ask someone else for help.

C. Show positive attitude toward them.

D. Try your best to fit in with them.

【2】The author agrees that you should take part in more activities in order to __________.

A. get more chances of making friends

B. lay a better foundation for your future jobs

C. transform yourself into a clone.

D. make you feel like a fake.

Dear Jenny,

Now I’d like to tell you something about my pare-time job this summer vacation, in that I worked as a guide in a travel agency.

The work was interesting but tired. I think it was helpful to work this holiday. It was the first time that I have earned money on my own. I’ve come to understand how hard my parents work to support for the family. I used to keep on ask them for money, but now I’ve never waste money and learn to share worries with my parent. I’ve learnt how to get along well with others. What’s worse, I’ve gained some working and social experience and I have learnt something can’t learnt from textbooks. All these will be good for my future. In a word, I had the wonderful or valuable summer vacation.
