17.Loving Life in Moosonee
Born in Moose Factory Island,located about 12miles inland from the James Bay coastline in northern Ontario,I spent my early childhood years in nearby Moose River Crossing.Our family returned to Moose Factory later,so my siblings(兄弟姐妹)and I could continue our education,(21)as/because/since the local school had been closed down.
Moose River Crossing is situated along the only railroad track in Canada that reaches all the way up to the northern community of Moosonee,Ont.,which later(22)became (become)-and still is-my true hometown.
(23)While/When/As my siblings and I were growing up,I always sensed something was missing in my life,(24)something fundamental to my very identity,to who I was and where I came from.Over the years,I began to learn more(25)about my Native culture,the history and our way of life.Then,in 2009,I met a man who later became my husband.(26)Being(be) an ambassador of the land and a hunter,my husband taught me how to hunt,fish,set nets,snare rabbits,make a fire in the rain,read the weather and drive a boat.Even after having lived in Moosonee for 26years,I had never experienced and learned so much on the land and the mighty Moose River,(27)where the sunsets are breathtakingly beautiful,as I did in the relatively short time I've known my husband.
I am so thankful and proud(28)to be given(give) the opportunity to lead this kind of lifestyle, which someday will be passed on to my grandchildren.
Today,I continue to trace my roots and try to live my life according to them.I have also been back to Moose River Crossing after being away for many years.My older sister and only brother,both hunters,along with a few nephews and nieces,continue to carry on the traditions of our ancestors in Moose River Crossing.
Every year,our family gathers for a spring hunt,mainly geese and ducks.In summertime,we go fishing and,in the fall,we head out hunting.In addition to (29)adding(add) to our foods for the year,these excursions are (30)where our family stories and recollections are shared the most.And there are plenty of stories to go around,all of which are close to my heart and a big part of who I am today.

分析 本文主要講述作者尋根.作者希望找到關(guān)于自己身份的一些基本東西,包括自己的本土文化,歷史和生活方式等.

解答 21.a(chǎn)s/because/since 考查連詞.后一單句對(duì)前一單句解釋原因,用連詞as/because/since.

28.to be given 考查動(dòng)詞不定式.I與give之間是動(dòng)賓關(guān)系,用動(dòng)詞不定式的一般被動(dòng)式.
29.a(chǎn)dding 考查動(dòng)名詞.In addition to是介詞短語(yǔ),后接動(dòng)詞時(shí)用動(dòng)名詞形式.
30.where 考查連詞.這些遠(yuǎn)足是我們家庭故事和回憶分享最多的地方.where引導(dǎo)表示從句.

8.If you live in a big city,there are many things to drive you crazy on your daily route,and it's not just overcrowded subway trains.
Vicky Zhao is a mainlander working in Hong Kong.For her,one thing she can't put up with is people standing on the wrong side of the escalator(自動(dòng)扶梯) in subway stations."Escalators help us move faster and save time.It isn't a place to rest,"the 24-year-old says."I often see tourists block the way with their suitcases or chatting on the escalators during rush hours.It annoys me to no end."
Admitting she is not the patient type,Zhao says things are much better in Hong Kong than in cities on the mainland where"stand right, walk left"signs are often ignored.
The logic behind the"stand right,walk left"escalator etiquette(禮儀) seems obvious.Even though you may want to catch your breath while you're transported up or down,you should still consider others and leave enough space for people in a hurry,so that they can run and catch the train.
Many cities'escalators,including London's and Beijing's,use the"stand right,walk left"system to speed up the flow of people.(Australia is an exception and you should stand on the left side instead.) But some cities discourage people from moving on escalators out of safety reasons.In Hong Kong's subway stations there are regular announcements asking people to"stand still"on escalators.Even so,most people in this fast-paced city observe the"stand right,walk left"etiquette.
But the people who stand on escalators defend themselves by telling the walkers not to be so impatient.The BBC quotes one stander as saying:"If the person is in such a rush,why not just take the stairs?Even when the escalator is packed and there's nowhere to move,I see these same people complaining about not being able to pass."
Whatever the escalator etiquette is in the place you live or visit,do what most people are doing and always be mindful of others:leave enough space between each other, don't stay at the end of the escalator, and if someone is blocking your way,a simple"excuse me"is enough.
33.In the second paragraph,the underlined word"It"refers toC.
A.the author's living in the big city of Hong Kong.
B.being crowded on the subway trains in rush hours.
C.people's blocking the way or chat on the escalators.
D.people's standing on the right side resting.
34.When on the escalator,a majority of local people in Hong KongD.
A.stand still as the railway stations require.
B.ignore the"stand right,walk left"signs
C.use the stairs instead of escalators.
D.follow the"stand right,wail left"etiquette.
35.Which of the following statements is the writer's opinion?B
A.People should stand right no matter where they are.
B.People should do as the Romans do and consider others.
C.People should do as they like on the escalators.
D.People should be seriously criticized when they block the way.

9.Many fourth graders would panic in an emergency situation,(61)yet/but  one Pennsylvania nine-year-old is being called a hero after discovering a  (62)dying  (die') man and knowing exactly what to do to save his life. This past Friday,Owen Sambol  (63)was heading(head) home, from school on a cold, snowy day when he heard a faint noise that sounded like someone crying for help.(64)Without  hesitating,he ran behind the house to see where it was coming from and discovered  (65)a  man lying face down in the snow.
The little boy tried his(66)hardest (hard) to pull the man up,but he wasn't strong enough.Instead of panicking,he told the man he would get his mother,(67)who  is afire-fighter,and come right back for him.Mom Ashley Sambol called 911 right away, then pulled the man up and carried him into her home because she was afraid he had hypothermia(低體溫)after(68)being left/having been left(leave)in the snow for so long.
"I take(69)pride (proud)in him,"Ashley said about her son,who stayed calm and saved a life that afternoon."Had he been out there any longer and who knows.''(70)Thankfully(thank),the man was rescued just in time and is now healing in the hospital.

4.Now many singers and bands have little to do with good music. They know little about(41)whatgood music means. What is the cause?
Most of these singers so far(42)have seen(see) music as a"job"because it is a good source of making money. And if you have a good(43)appearance(appear) and also original or expensive clothes to show off at your concerts then your voice is not(44)asimportant as it should be.The public will prefer to admire more the most interesting parts of your body and even forget that you are there(45)to show(show) your music skills, not your dancing, which is important too,but not at such a high level.
Therefore, many young girls on TV choose to wear the most provocative (挑逗性的) clothes to catch attention, but when it comes to singing they are in(46)acomplete mess and one doesn't need to have an ear(47)formusic to notice their lack of talent.
However, the young generation should understand talent and a good voice matter more in their musical career. All the bands(48)thathave little to do with good music fail to be viewed as(49)successful(succeed) on stage. If a young man has a great voice and wants to become a singer,he should take some special courses in this area, because the courses will help (50)himimprove singing abilities.
