The way people work has changes. The increasing use of technology presents new and continual challenges to small and large businesses, employees and managers, teachers and students. Everyone, it seems, is being affected by the technological revolution. Store clerks, for example, now use increasingly complex computerized cash registers(現(xiàn)金出納機(jī)),while university professors must learn to_____________________________________.

In today’s world, training and learning do not stop when we finish school; they must now continue throughout our working lives. In the year 2000, the Hong Kong government conducted a survey on the employment concerns, and training needs, of its workforce. For many managers and other professionals the biggest challenge, as well as change, in the workplace, was the increased use of computers and computerized machinery or equipment. Between 1998 and 2000, the need for experienced employees who could use this kind of equipment rose rapidly. Many of those in the workplace at this time experienced changes in job requirements and had to attend job-related training or re-training courses.

The changing work environment is also affecting education and how we learn. In Finland, a report on strategies for education and training in the information age discussed the changing role of both teacher and student. With the increased use of technology and the growth of distance learning, the teacher has become more of a tutor who guides a student, rather than lectures. In turn, the student has to take more responsibility for his or her learning in the absence of direct teacher contact. The report also stressed that high school and university students should learn computer skills in order to cope with the demands of the future workplace.

The Finnish report also highlighted the need for teacher training, and re-training, and suggested that the salaries and job descriptions of teachers be reviewed because of future demands expected in their job.Previously(以前) university professors may have held lectures between the weekday hours of 9:00a.m. and 5:00p.m. in large halls filled with students. Now, they may spend part of their day lecturing larger groups of students on campus, and then conduct afternoon or evening classes online, with students in five different countries.

As technologies grow and develop, ongoing training will continue to be necessary. To be successful in the workplace, people will not stop learning when they leave school ------ lifelong learning will become a way of life.

It is essential to our children’s development that they are provided with life skills. It is of great importance that our children should be taught basic life skill lessons in order to live the life they dream of as they enter adulthood.

How we teach youth life skills is the focus of this article. We will explore and share life skill lessons with you so that the time you spend with each child is more productive and moves them to take positive action.

What should be included in a youth life skills program?

1)Financial literacy(理財(cái)素養(yǎng)). Financial literacy training can improve every aspect of a child’s life. Studies show that people that have developed financial literacy skills are healthier, have better relationships, and have more confidence. Financial literacy training is the foundation which all the other youth life skills can build on and support.

2)Relationships. Children need to understand the importance of encouraging relationships and develop the skills to maintain positive relationships. One key part of developing positive relationships is the ability to communicate effectively. This is a life skill that will not only benefit (使受益)their friendships but will help them in their careers as well.

3)Strengths development. It is important for adults to focus on the strengths of their children and help them to take their strengths to the next level. For most, what we are good at is also what we enjoy doing. Make your youth life skill program one that helps them follow their passions and build upon the strengths they have developed while growing up.

The focus of youth skills programs is recognizing students’ potential and providing them with the proper tools to enable them to develop their skill sets. You are helping to open up windows of opportunity for them and encouraging them throughout the process by making them feel worthy.

The goal of youth life skill programs is to help our children grow into responsible adults. Children cannot grow into the wonderful human beings they are meant to be when they are shut down, turned away and ignored. They need the proper guidance that will enable them to feel proud of their achievements. They also need the opportunity to express themselves in an environment that is willing to listen to them and to help them as well. There is only so much they can stand on their own; the rest is up to the adults that play important roles in their lives.

The computer makes doing schoolwork easier for me than it was for my mom and dad. For example,
when writing book reports and stories, I use Microsoft Word instead of a pen and paper. That way, after my
teacher edits my work, I can go back and make revisions without having to rewrite the whole thing. And
Microsoft Word has a spell checks! I use it all the time.
For English class, we're reading The Outsiders, by S.E.Hinter. As a pre-reading assignment, my teacher
asked us to research teenage groups on the Internet. I tried Google, Encarta, and Yahoo first, and finally
found an article on Time.com.
For a geography assignment on the United States, I used Encarta to learn about the Mississippi River. I
needed to find out how deep the river is, how its widths and depths are different, what states it runs through,
and what kind of fish live in it. I used the information to show how the geography of a country affects its
economy. For example, the river's trade paths, the number offish caught in it, and the tourists it attracts
directly affect Southerners' jobs and incomes.
I never go to the library to do research. It takes too much time. Since I live in New York City and both
my parents work, getting to the library isn't always easy. For a big assignment or research project, I'd have
to stay at the library to read, or sign out whatever books or magazines I needed. Being able to find the
information in my own living room makes everything a lot simpler. Online dictionaries and encyclopedias also
save time.
Sometimes. I think the computer spoils my generation because it's so easy at least physically. But
computers are not like television, which does the thinking for you. You still have to use your mind. I prefer
using a computer. Easy, fun, and fast.

London's Chinese community (社區(qū)) dates back to the 18th century, when a small number of Chinese sailors moved to the city to work in Limhouse, east London. As time went on, other Chinese people
came to this area and Limhouse began to be known as "Chinatown". However, London's Chinese
community remained very small for many years: at the start of the 20th century, there were just 545
Chinese people in Britain.
After the Second World War, many farmers in Hong Kong lost their jobs and came to London. As
Limhouse had been almost destroyed during the war, they settled in a different area-a part of central
London near Leicester Square. This area is now what Londoners call Chinatown.
At first, the new immigrants (移民) found it difficult to get jobs. In the 1950s, however, a small
Chinese restaurant opened in London. Many British people visited it and said that Chinese food was
wonderful! Suddenly, Chinese restaurants and take-aways started opening in every part of the city.
Instead of too little work, the new Chinese immigrants now found that they had too much! They worked
as cooks, managers or waiters. Most of them enjoyed their lives and arranged their friends and relatives
to join them from overseas.
As time went by, London's Chinese community became more and more successful. The sons and
daughters of the original restaurant workers studied and worked very hard. And most went on to get
highly paid jobs. Many Chinese families left Chinatown and moved to the more expensive outskirts.
Chinatown, however, is still as lively as ever.
