did在此相當(dāng)于demanded more,此處強(qiáng)調(diào)母親確實(shí)照醫(yī)生的話做了。 故選 A。
pay attention注意; work out解決問題;出現(xiàn)……結(jié)果; carry out執(zhí)行(任務(wù)等); help out幫助脫離困境。
故選A。
Ican't peel potatoes,I only have one hand.
chance機(jī)會; way方式; time時(shí)間; success成功。從下文"if you try hard 11(enough),you can do anything.”
enough足夠; too太; again 又; often經(jīng)常。 故選A。
drive sb.to意為“開車?yán)湍橙说绞裁吹胤健;send sb.to a place意為“派某人去某地”;carry sb.to意為“攜帶某人去某地”。
故選A。
before在……以前; after在…… as在此相當(dāng)于when或while,在我練習(xí)的時(shí)候,母親站在一邊。
First第一的; last最后的; wonderful 極好的; next下一個(gè)的。the first time“第一次”;the last time"上一次,最后一次”;the wonderful time"最美好的時(shí)光”都不合語境。the next time指自那次以后的下一次;故選D。
故選A。

One winter term during college, I took a history class to fulfill a requirement.
The professor was a     1    fellow with red hair. He would walk shyly into the room wearing his hooded (帶帽的) winter coat, once not even     2    the hood during the lecture. He was terribly nervous in class and lowered his head     3    looking up through his glasses at his students.
So I     4    a little game for myself. I would try to find something in his lecture to ask him an intelligent question about,     5    me to pay attention rather than letting my eyes close. He was obviously     6     to have a question to answer. In fact, his answers were always interesting.
I continued to do this every day of the course and found myself actually enjoying the subject. The professor seemed to become a bit more     7    and some of the other students even     8    from time to time. My little game had saved me from being bored, as it was   9  to do. And, I learned quite a bit about ancient world history. Except for all of his strange __10  , he was indeed quite an expert in his field.
On the last day of his class, we gathered our     11    and headed out the door. When the Berlin Wall came down in 1989, Leonard Bernstein gave a concert in Berlin, including Beethoven's Ode to Joy, with the word "Joy" changed to "Freedom" in the lyrics sung. The orchestra(管弦樂隊(duì))were drawn from both East and West Germany, as well as the United Kingdom, France, the Soviet Union, and the United States.
Freedom was in the air and it was not just for people. The wall between East and West Germany had also kept a large population of wild pigs within the eastern forests of Brandenburg. The wall's falling down made it easier for the big pigs—a very big one can weigh over 300 pounds—to leave the woodlands and walk into the town. Warm winters and easy access to food have helped the population increase. Now about 10,000 wild pigs walk around Berlin.
The nature of the beast has added to the boom(興旺)."The pigs are intelligent," says Marc Franusch, a spokesman for the Berlin forestry department. "They learn to use the neighborhoods. They get used to people, dogs, and traffic."
The wild pigs tend to travel in small groups and have been found searching rubbish and gardens, feeding their piglets(小豬)in the shadow of parked cars, and crossing busy roads. On average, the animals are involved in one traffic accident every day. And despite the fact that it's illegal, some Berliners have been known to give the pigs food.
Though wild pigs are protected under German law, the city's forestry department is permitted to kill 2,000 of the creatures every year, targeting mostly young adult animals in forests surrounding Berlin. Pigs within city limits are only shot if they make an immediate threat. No humans have yet been seriously wounded by them, but local dogs have been the victims of their tusks. "The forestry department is not aiming to get rid of the pigs," explains Franusch, "but we do have to reduce dangerous situations."

My husband, my four-month-old daughter and I set out on a five-day driving journey from California to Washington. We had to stop frequently because our little child needed to stretch from the car seat.
One of our stops, once we crossed the Oregon border, was at a Black Bear Diner. Walking towards the front door we noticed a gentleman standing at one side. He was clearly untidy, without shoes and wearing worn clothing. We passed right by him and opened the restaurant door. Then something told me to go back.
Holding my daughter, I turned around and said to the gentleman, “Sir. Are you hungry?” He said, “Yes.” I then asked, “May we buy you something to eat?” He responded with, “Sure, I can order something myself.”
My husband opened the door and the gentleman went straight to the counter. I told him to order whatever he wanted. The manager of the restaurant came over quite quickly and looked frightened. I spoke before he had an opportunity to. “This gentleman will have lunch with us today,” I said. “Please add his order to our bill.” The manager said with a frown(皺眉), “Okay.” We turned to our table and the gentleman said, loudly and quickly, “Thank You!” We were seated and upon completing our meal we were handed our bill. I asked my husband what the gentleman had ordered. One fresh orange juice, one coffee, one breakfast combination with a side of hash browns.
When we left the restaurant I looked for the gentleman but didn’t see him, but that very small act just made my day. I hope in some small way we were able to add some joy to his life, even if only for a few minutes.

Jaguar(美洲虎) was very rare. It was said that there less than 20 jaguars in the world, one of which was living in the national zoo of Peru. In order to help this jaguar, Peruvians set up a zoo for it, where there were sheep and deer for the jaguar to eat. However, strange enough, no one had ever seen the jaguar hunt the deer and sheep. What they could see was its lying in its cave, sleeping and eating the meat provided by the zoo keepers.
At first, people thought that the jaguar felt too lonely, so they found a female tiger to accompany it. However, it did not make too much sense. The jaguar just sometimes went out of its cave with its “girlfriend” for a while before it came back to its house again' It is normal for the jaguar to be lazy here. Tiger is the king of forest but you simply put some small animals around him. That is why the jaguar shows no interest in going out' a visitor said. So people put five wolves into the jaguar's zoo. Since then, the jaguar did not go back to its cave any more . It either stands on top of the hill yelling or runs up and down the hill without sleeping all day long .
Actually, one creature without any rivals is a lifeless creature. If a man lives without rivals, he is likely to be satisfied with the present and will not fight for the better. He will hold back before all difficulties . Hard environment tends to make successful people . Therefore, we need some rivals to push us to go ahead in all difficulties and competitions in our lives.
