You will spend hours at the gym training your body, but do you ever think about training your brain? Here are four ways to keep your brain mentally (腦力上地) active and healthy.

Play games

Your brain is a muscle just like the ones in the rest of your body. If you don’t use it, you will lose it. For example, doing a crossword puzzle (縱橫填字游戲) once a day is a good way to give the brain the exercise it needs. This kind of puzzle is good at training different areas of the brain. But remember that when doing this puzzle, you should gradually increase the complexity (復(fù)雜度); otherwise, it will become repetitive (重復(fù)乏味的) and stop being mentally challenging.

Talk aloud

Although it might sound strange to you, talking aloud is a great way to boost your memory. A good exercise to try is counting to 99 in threes as fast as you can.

Be a team leader

If you find you can do your work very easily, you should find a new task. It is important that your job should be mentally challenging. Complex jobs are often more challenging and make the brain work a little harder.

Learn a language

A study found that, compared with those who could speak only one language, the people who could speak two languages had a slower rate of cognitive (認(rèn)知能力) decrease. Learning a new language is very challenging and it makes sure that different areas of the brain have their lights on.

1.What is the main idea of this passage?

A.Why you should train your brain.

B.How to be a good team leader.

C.Training the brain is more important than training the body.

D.How to make your brain healthy and work actively.

2.Which word can replace the word "boost" in the third paragraph?

A.Change.           B.Promote.          C.Decrease.         D.Lose.

3.We should gradually increase the complexity when doing crossword puzzles because ______.

A.if we don’t use our brain, we will lose it

B.we should make our brain face different challenges

C.our brain is a muscle like other parts in our bodies

D.these puzzles can work on different areas of the brain

4.Which group of people have a slower rate of cognitive decrease?

A.Those who don’t often do crossword puzzles.

B.Those who don’t often count to 99 in threes.

C.Those who do their work very easily.

D.Those who can speak more than one language.

I have been a student at Bentley College in Waltham for some time now, so I have a lot of experience and know how things work at Bentley. As a freshman(新生)at Bentley College you will be living in the Tree Dorms, Slade Hall or Miller Hall. I would highly suggest that you choose to live in the Tree Dorms because this is where most fresh-men are going to be living. There will be a lot of activities going on in the building and you will meet lots of people. Slade Hall is next to the parking lot(停車場(chǎng))and not far from the Tree Dorms, so that would be your second choice. As Miller Hall is small and far away, it would be my last choice for freshmen housing. If Bentley offers you the chance to live with second or third year students you’d better refuse their offer and live with freshmen. Living with your classmates will make the transition (過(guò)渡) into college life a lot easier.

As a freshman your classes should be easy. After freshman year your classes will become a lot more difficult, so I advise that you get down to business early in the first year. There are two very easy things you can do to increase your knowledge as a freshman. The first is to just go to class and the second is to always do your homework. I also highly advise that you do it on your own and try to stay disciplined(遵守紀(jì)律的). It is too easy to put your homework away and then get really behind and not be able to learn everything before a mid-term or final exam.

1.The author advises freshmen to live in the Tree Dorms because ___________.

A. it is across the parking lot from Slade Hall

B. it is small and quite far away from the playground

C. there are many second and third year students there

D. there are many freshmen and more activities

2.Where is Slade Hall?

A. Near Miller Hall.

B. Far from Tree Dorms.

C. Beside the car park.

D. Near the classrooms.

3.According to the author, how can freshmen improve knowledge?

A. Remember to do homework by discussing it with others.

B. Finish homework and go to class every day.

C. Try to spend more time in the library.

D. Be able to learn something before a mid-term or final exam.

4.The author writes the passage to ___________.

A. tell new students how to get used to college life

B. tell new students about their teachers and dormitory

C. show the differences between college and high school

D. tell readers about some funny things at Bentley College

We all look forward to vacations. They can give our daily life colorful meaning. Moreover, in the busy world we live in, we all need a vacation to get the rest and relaxation our bodies desire. The most important thing in planning a vacation is where you will spend your vacation. If you want to make sure you can visit the best vacation spot(地點(diǎn)), there are many factors(因素)that will influence where the best vacation spot is for you.

The first thing to consider when choosing the best vacation spot is what you would like to do. Do you want to ski? Do you want to surf? Are you looking for a spot that has great shopping and a beach as well? Are you looking for something that is a little more historic or that has religious meaning to you? These are great questions to ask.

And once you have decided on this, you may want to decide what time you are taking your vacation. It would be difficult to have a ski trip in Colorado in the middle of July. You would want to visit in the winter. Or if you have your heart set on skiing in July, you would need to go to South America, such as Chile, to do your skiing at this time of year.

The next thing to consider when finding the best vacation spot for your trip is your budget(預(yù)算). You may want to go to Italy to see the old historic buildings, such as the Sistine Chapel. But the fact is that if you don’t have the money to back it up, you won’t be able to do this. You may find the best thing for you is to visit some old castles in America. You can find these throughout the eastern United States, such as North Carolina. And you will also find great shopping and many other attractions for your vacation. Perhaps you are someone who has always wanted to go to Cancun for spring break. If you do not have the budget for this, Miami is also a great place. There are plenty of bars there. It has plenty of attractions and even some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. It also has South Beach, which is actually a fantastic beach.

There are amazing vacation destinations all over the world. The choice is really up to you. It truly depends on your taste, budget and what you want to do on your vacation. There are many websites to help you find the best price no matter what your budget is. Keep the advice in mind and you will be on your way to having a wonderful vacation that you will be talking about for the rest of your life.
