【答案】Dear Allen,

I’m very happy to know that you are going to take part in the American National Chinese Speech Contest. And it's my honor to give you some advice on how to write a good speech in Chinese.

First,a good beginning is quite necessary.Because you can catch the audiences' attention and interest if you begin your speech in a lovely and interesting way.For example, you can begin your speech with a Chinese proverb or a famous quotation. That way,the audiences will think you have a good knowledge of the Chinese culture.

Second, make your speech as convincing as possible. To do this, you had better give some vivid examples or your personal experiences, which can say much more than comments.

Last,do some proofreading after you finish your text to avoid as many mistakes as you can.

Good luck to you!

Yours,

Li Hua

【題目】I find it interesting that even the ordinary happenings can have an effect on our experiences. My wife and I moved into our house nine years ago.We spent a lot of time and energy in the yard. There were some rocks there. Whenever we had found flowers,we would plant them, just to bring some color to the area.

Last summer I found a little plant that I could not immediately recognize.I knew I didn’t plant it and Denise said that she didn't,either. We decided to let it continue growing until we could find out what it was.

Weeks passed and as I made my way back to the mysterious plant,it appeared to be a sunflower. It was spindly(瘦弱的)and had only one head on it.I decided to baby it along and weed around it.As I pulled rocks from the area to get to the weeds,I noticed something unusual. The sunflower had not started where I saw the stalk(莖)begin. It actually had begun under a big rock and grown under around it to reach the sun.

That's when I realized that if a little sunflower didn't let a big rock stand in its way of developing,we too have the abilities to achieve our desires.Like the sunflower,it knew it had the ability to get over the difficulty and succeed because it had faith.

【題目】閱讀理解
When another old cave is discovered in the south of France, it is not usually news. Rather, it is an ordinary event. Such discoveries are so frequent these days that hardly anybody pays heed to them. However, when the Lascaux cave complex was discovered in 1940, the world was amazed. Painted directly on its walls were hundreds of scenes showing how people lived thousands of years ago. The scenes show people hunting animals, such as bison or wild cats. Other images depict birds and, most noticeably, horses, which appear in more than 300 wall images, by far outnumbering all other animals.
Early artists drawing these animals achieved a monumental and difficult task. They did not limit themselves to the easily accessible walls but carried their painting materials to spaces that required climbing steep walls or going on hands and knees into narrow passages in the Lascaux complex.
Unfortunately, the paintings have been exposed to the destructive action of water and temperature changes, which easily wear the images away. Because the Lascaux caves have many entrances, air movement has also damaged the images inside.
Although they are not out in the open air, where natural light would have destroyed them long ago, many of the images have deteriorated and are hardly recognizable. To prevent further damage, the site was closed to tourists in 1963, 23 years after it was discovered.
(1)Which title best summarizes the main idea of the passage?
A.Wild Animals in Art
B.Hidden Prehistoric Paintings
C.Exploring Caves Respectfully
D.Determining the Age of French Caves
(2)What does the underlined phrase “pays heed to” in paragraph 2 probably means?
A.discovers
B.watches
C.notices
D.buys
(3)Why was painting inside the Lascaux complex a difficult task?
A.It was completely dark inside.
B.The caves were full of wild animals.
C.Painting materials were hard to find.
D.Many painting spaces were difficult to reach.
(4)According to the passage, all of the following have caused damage to the paintings EXCEPT _______.
A.temperature changes
B.air movement
C.water
D.light
