【題目】Robot are about to enter our lives. From doing housework, entertaining and educating our children, to looking after the elderly, scientists say we will soon be welcoming robots into our homes and workplaces.

Researchers believe we are on the cusp (過渡點) of a robot revolution that will mirror the quick growth of the computer revolution. They are developing new laws for robot behavior, and designing new ways for humans and robots to communicate.

“I think robots will change who we are, just as eyeglasses and fire changed who we were before, says Rodney Brooks, a director of the MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory.

Some ideas and technologies may sound like science fiction, but they are fast becoming science fact. Robots scientists invented are already beginning to perform everyday tasks like cleaning our floors. The latest types from Japan are able to help the elderly to get out of bed or get up after a fall. They can also remind them when to take medication (藥物), or even help wash their hair.

“Robot now are not human-like. For example they are things like automatic (自動的) beds and wheelchairs,” says Prof Hiroshi Ishiguro at Osaka University, Japan. He believes the time is coming when robots start looking less like machines, and more like us. “In the near future we are going to use more human-like robots. I really think so, says Prof Ishiguro.

Prof Maja Mataric at the University of Southern California agrees. “I’m very excited about the fact that today we are trying to make robots that look like human beings,” she says.

“I believe we love robots because they’re reflections (反映) of ourselves,” says Ken Goldberg, director of the Berkeley Center for New Media at the University of California at Berkeley.

“Robots could be used in education, learning, and healthcare, where social support is important,” says Dr. Cynthia Breazeal, director of the Personal Robots Group at MIT.

1Who believes that robots will bring great changes to our lives?

A. Rodney Brooks. B. Hiroshi Ishiguro.

C. Maja Mataric. D. Ken Goldberg.

2Which of the following proverbs can best express the idea of the paragraph 4?

A. Great hopes make great men. B. If we can dream it, we can do it.

C. Where there is life, there is hope. D. Where there is a will, there is a way.

3According to the text, future robots will .

A. become smaller B. cheaper

C. be more like machines D. be more like humans

4What would he the best title for this passage?

A. Ready for the Robot Revolution?

B. The Uses of Future Robots

C. The Changes for the Future World

D. Happy About Scientific Development?

【題目】 If you think that running marathons will help you live a long and healthy life, new research may come as a shock. According to a recent scientific study, people who do a very strenuous workout are as likely to die as people who do no exercise at all.

Scientists in Denmark have been studying over 1,000 joggers (幔跑者)and non - joggers for 12 years. The death rates from the sample group indicate that people who jog at a proper pace two or three times a week for less than two and a half hours in total are least likely to die. The best speed to jog at was found to be about 5 miles per hour. The research suggests that people who jog more than three times a week or at higher speeds of over 7 mph die at the same rate as non - joggers. The scientists think that this is because strenuous exercise causes structural changes to the heart and arteries(動脈). Over time, this can cause serious injuries.

Peter Schnohr, a researcher in Copenhagen, said, “If your goal is to decrease risk of death and improve life expectancy(壽命),jogging a few times a week at a proper pace is a good strategy. Anything more is not just unnecessary, and it may be harmful. “

The implications (暗示 ) of this are that moderate forms of exercise such as tai chi, yoga and walking may be better for us than “iron man events, triathlons and long - distance running and cycling. According to Jacob Louis Marott, another researcher involved in the study, “You don't actually have to do that much to have a good impact on your health. And perhaps you shouldn’t actually do too much”.

1The underlined word “strenuous” in Paragraph 1 is closest in meaning to “____“.

A.regularB.hardC.practicalD.flexible

2The author presents some figures in Paragraph 2 to_______ .

A.suggest giving up joggingB.show risks of doing sports

C.provide supportive evidenceD.introduce the research process

3According to the scientists, why is too much exercise harmful?

A.It may injure the heart and arteries.B.It can make the body tired out.

C.It will bring much pressure.D.It consumes too much energy.

4What can be inferred from the text?

A.No exercise at all is the best choice.B.More exercise means a healthier life.

C.Marathons runners are least likely to die.D.Proper exercise contributes to good health.
