One rainy day while I was walking home with one of my friend a truck came to a stop besides us. The driver put the window down and offered us a umbrella because he found we were wet through. I stood there and couldn’t believe in that a complete stranger is so thoughtful. The man insisted, so I grateful accepted the offer, thanked him and watched the truck disappear down the road. This man might need the umbrella himself, and he preferred to give it to everyone else. It was a lesson to us that it is possible give without expect anything in return.

【答案】

【1】friend-friends

【2】besides----beside

【3】a----an

【4】去掉in

【5】is----was

【6】gratefull---gratefully

【7】and---but

【8】everyone---someone/somebody

【9】possible后加to

【10】expect---expecting

【解析】

試題分析:通過本文的故事告訴我們:沒有期盼回報的給予是可能的。

【1】friend-friends ---中的多數(shù)才能用one of ,one of 后用名詞復(fù)數(shù)形式,改為friends.

【2】besides----beside 在---旁邊,用beside.故把besides----beside。

【3】a----an umbrella以元音開頭,可知把a----an。

【4】去掉in believe vt.相信,認為,故去掉in。

【5】is----was 根據(jù)句意可知是過去發(fā)生的事,故把is----was。

【6】gratefull---gratefully 動詞accept.用副詞修飾,故把gratefull---gratefully。

【7】and---but 前后構(gòu)成轉(zhuǎn)折,用but.故把and---but。

【8】everyone---someone/somebody 表示其他人用someone/somebody else。故把everyone---someone/somebody。

【9】possible后加to It is/was possible to do sth.

an important meeting 一個重要的會議;an interesting story 一個有趣的故事;an old man 一位老人;an hour 一小時;an honest boy 一個誠實的男孩;an American lawyer一個美國的律師; a useful tool 一個有用的工具;a European friend一位歐洲的朋友。

【題目】Think about the different ways that people use the wind. You can use it to fly a kite or to sail a boat. Wind is one of our cleanest and richest power sources, as well as one of the oldest. Evidence shows that windmills(風(fēng)車) began to be used in ancient Iran back in the 7th century BC. They were first introduced to Europe during the 1100s, when armies returned from the Middle East with knowledge of using wind power.

For many centuries, people used windmills to grind(磨碎) wheat into flour or pump water from deep underground. When electricity was discovered in the late 1800s, people living in remote(偏遠的) areas began to use them to produce electricity. This allowed them to have electric lights and radio. However, by the 1940s when electricity was available(可利用的) to people in almost all areas of the United States, windmills were seldom used.

During the 1970s, people started becoming concerned about the pollution that is created when coal and gas are burned to produce electricity. People also realized that the supply of coal and gas would not last forever. Then, wind was rediscovered, though it means higher costs. Today, there is a global movement to supply more and more of our electricity through the use of wind.

1From the text we know that windmills__________.

A. were invented by European armies

B. used to supply power to radio in remote areas

C. have a history of more than 2,800 years

D. have rarely been used since electricity was discovered

2What was a new use for wind power in the late 19th century?

A. Producing electricity. B. Sailing a boat.

C. Grinding wheat into flour. D. Pumping water from ground.

3One of the reasons wind was rediscovered in the 1970s is that______.

A. the supply of coal and gas failed to meet needs

B. it is one of the oldest power sources

C. it was cheaper to create energy from wind

D. wind power is cleaner

4The passage is mainly about______________.

A. the global pollution from burning coal and gas

B. the worldwide movement to save energy

C. the history of using wind power

D. the advantages of windmills

【題目】NASA-s New Horizons probe(宇宙探測器)flew by Pluto(冥王星)this morning, sending back history's first up-close looks at the vast freezing-cold world. Closest approach came at 7:49 a.m. EDT. To celebrate, NASA gave out the latest photo of Pluto. It showed a reddish world with an amazing heart-shaped feature on its surface.

After today's close encounter, all the nine solar system's traditionally recognized planets have now been visited by a spaceship-a huge project begun in 1962 when NASA's Mariner 2 probe flew past Venus, a planet in the solar system. More than l,200 scientists, NASA guests and important persons, including 200 reporters, watched the flyby live at New Horizons' mission control center.

That close encounter has been a long time coming. The$723 million New Horizons mission launched in January 2006 but began taking shape in 1989. "New Horizons is'a capstone mission'," Glen Fountain, mission project manager told Space, com. "It is the first completion of the observations of our solar system. It-s giving us a new idea about how we human beings fit into the universe."

New Horizons "faced a crazy number of challenges," Stern, a driving force behind New Horizons said, "So many people stuck with this for so long. They got knocked down; they stood up. They got knocked down again; they stood up again.”

In a coincidence, today's close approach falls on the 50th anniversary of the first flyby of Mars, another planet, which was completed by NASA-s Mariner 4 spaceship.

There are no longer nine officially recognized planets, of course. The International Astronomical Union regarded Pluto as “a dwarf planet" in 2006 in a decision that remains controversial(有爭議的)today.

1Which statement is TRUE according to the passage?

A. Ideas still vary in the identity of Pluto.

B. Only scientists could watch the flyby live.

C. Mars is the first planet visited by a spaceship.

D. New Horizons mission aimed to observe the solar system.

2Glen Fountain may probably agree that _____________________

A. it is the most difficult to land on Pluto in the solar system

B. New Horizons mission is a long and troublesome project

C. their strong determination leads to the successful flyby

D. people are likely to find new ways to fit into space

3Which is the best title for the passage?

Coffee is one of the most popular drinks around the world. 【1】 Experts claim that there are more flavors of coffee than there are of wine. Coffee contains caffeine, an element (成分) that raises our awareness, keeps us from falling asleep or simply gives us a kick in the morning or after lunch.

2 For a long time doctors have told people not to drink too much coffee, because it may lead to heart problems, high blood pressure, insomnia (失眠) and headaches.

Scientists have now found out that it is the quality of coffee and the way it is brewed (沖泡) that holds the key to our health. 3 Among other things, this is linked to the consumption of a strong brew of coffee. Experts also point out that different roasts and types of coffee beans have different effects on our health.

A new study by a Harvard research group says that there is no link between coffee and health problems. 4 Doctors, however, warn against drinking too much coffee, as it can lead to stomach problems.

Coffee has many advantages, as the new study suggests. While alcohol makes people sleepy and slow-moving, coffee gives them energy. 5

Although a lot still needs to be uncovered about coffee, it seems to reduce the risk of cancer and diabetes. Reports show that people who drink coffee may develop Parkinson’s disease later in life, or maybe not at all.

A. There are many different types of coffee.

B. Scientists ask people not to drink coffee at night.

C. Elderly people in Greece live longer than normal.

D. But experts are still undecided on how healthy coffee is.

E. Sugar can change the different levels of caffeine in a cup of coffee.
