You may hear about earthquakes, but do you know what to do before, during and after an earthquake? Here is some advice for you:
Before an earthquake
All family members should know how to turn off gas, water and electricity and know useful telephone numbers (doctor, hospital, police, 119, etc.). Never put heavy things over beds.
During an earthquake
It's important for each of you to stay calm. If you are indoors, quickly move to a safe place in the room such as under a strong desk or a strong table. Stay away from windows, large mirrors, heavy furniture and so on. If you are cooking, turn off the gas. Move away from buildings, bridges and trees.
After an earthquake
It's better to wait and leave when it is safe.
Check around you and help the people who are in trouble. If your building is badly broken, you should leave it. If you can do it safely, turn off the gas. Then report it to the gas company.
A. It's necessary to prepare yourself and your family.
B. But earthquakes almost never kill people directly.
C. Earthquake is one of the most severe natural disasters.
D. The purpose is to protect yourself from falling objects.
E. If you arc outdoors, move to an open area like a playground.
F. Once the shaking has stopped, DO NOT run out of the building at once.
G. If you smell or hear a gas, get everyone outside and open windows and doors.

【題目】根據(jù)短文理解,選擇正確答案。
In the spring of my career, I found myself questioning the choice of my life's work. The students did not appear to be motivated; the paperwork was overwhelming (巨大的) and the constant changes of educational direction were discouraging. But I just could not bring myself to do anything else. “Next year,” I would say, “next year I will switch jobs, make more money and have far less stress.” Next year just never came. I am now in my forties. And while I am no longer in the classroom or at the schoolhouse, I remain an educator. It finally dawns on me that there is no other profession that will let me change children's minds and have an impact on their future. For every student that finally “got it”, for every new teacher that said, “You inspired me to stay,” I get the raise that has never quite made it to my paycheck.
I was on a plane recently and the flight attendant asked my name. When I told him, he said, “I knew that was you! You taught at my elementary school. You made me take my cap off in the building and told me I was handsome.” He then paused and said, “I think I kept my hat on until you saw me, just so I could get that compliment (贊美). Thank you for making me feel special.”
We have now entered an age where nothing is private and secrets are hard to keep. Your “friends” are counted by simply clicking a button. Face-to-face interactions are seen by many as unnecessary and time-consuming. Of course, we can do anything online, including teaching and learning. But I guess I am just old school. I want to look into your eyes when the answer finally dawns on you.

A.never wanted to change the job
B.wasn't a success as a teacher
C.doesn't regret being an educator
D.was not happy with her paycheck
(2)The author told us the experience in Paragraph 2 mainly to show ________.
A.feedback on teachers' classes from students
B.the friendship between teachers and students
C.an important role praise plays in people's life
D.the great influence teachers have on students
(3)What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A.The author is out of fashion in today's world.
B.The author still prefers face-to-face communication.
C.The author thinks online communication is boring.
D.The author suggests that people stay away from the Internet.
(4)What could be the author's purpose in writing the text?
A.To make a summary of her teaching career.
B.To express her views on the Internet.
C.To show the influence of a teacher.
D.To share her belief as a teacher.

【題目】從短文后各題所給的四個選項(A、B、C和D)中,選出可以填入空白處的最佳選項。
Some people would have you believe that being fat is the worst thing you can be. They think that if a person is fat they have no life, no love, no reason to want to look good in their clothes. The sad thing is that many people who are fat do feel the same loathing toward themselves and others who are overweight or obese.
I know what I'm talking about because I have been there. I have been that fat girl who wore big T-shirts to cover my “sins”. Forget style. Forget fashion sense. I absolutely had none. I didn't even bother getting haircuts for years, just wore my hair long and straight, pulled back in a ponytail, I have to wonder if the reason the fashion industry has ignored plus sized women and children for so long is because plus sized people, feeling they couldn't possibly look great, didn't bother shopping for new clothes, and therefore no profit was to be found by producing those sizes.
For me, the change that improved my outer look actually started with my outlook on life. I started by being grateful for all I do have, like great health, a stable family, a steady income, freedom, a decent home, the ability to see the trees turn orange in the fall, to hear my grandson humming in the back seat, to remember the great times I've had in my life.
I started to focus on all the positive aspects of the life I already had. I actually started to feel the beauty of the Universe all around me and to realize that I am part of that perfection. The self loathing stopped. I noticed all the people in my life who loved me in spite of my size. I got off the pity pot and smiled at myself. I acknowledged my shame and embarrassment and moved through that too.
(1)We can learn from the first paragraph that ________.
A.a fat person is easy be taken away by others' viewpoint
B.fat people always have a low opinion of themselves
C.fat people usually envy others who are slim
D.fat people usually have pity on each other
(2)According to the author, the fashion industry ________.
A.makes a lot of money by making clothes for fat people
B.does not bother to make clothes for fat people
C.targets on fat people mainly for the purpose of making profit
D.looking down upon fat people too
(3)What does the author think is the most important to lead a happy life?
A.One's view on life.
B.The support and care from others.
C.Neglecting others' views.
D.Focusing on one's inner beauty.
(4)The author is probably ________.
A.an expert at weight loss
B.a girl who is troubled by her weight
C.an old woman who is much careful with her appearance
D.an old lady who is happy with almost everything

【題目】閱讀理解
The way we do things round here
Some years ago, I was hired by an American bank. I received a letter from the head of the Personnel Department that started, “Dear John, I am quite pleased that you have decided to join us.” That “quite” saddened me. I thought he was saying “we're kind of pleased you decided to join us although I wish we had hired someone else.” Then I discovered that in American English “quite” sometimes means “very”, while in British English it means “fairly”.
So the first lesson about working in other countries is to learn the language and by that I don't just mean the words people speak. It is the body language, dress, manners, ideas and so on. The way people do things highlights many of the differences we see between cultures.
Some of these differences may be only on the surface—dress, food and hours of work—while others may be deeper and take longer to deal with. Mostly, it is just a question of getting used to the differences and accepting them, like the climate, while getting on with business.
Some of the differences may be an improvement. People are more polite; the service is better; you ask for something to be done and it happens without having to ask again. However, other differences can be troubling, like punctuality(準(zhǔn)時). If you invite people to a party at 7 o'clock, your guests will consider it polite to turn up exactly on time in Germany, five minutes early in the American Midwest, an hour early in Japan, 15 minutes afterwards in the UK, up to an hour afterwards in Italy and some time in the evening in Greece. I prefer not to use the word “l(fā)ate” because there is nothing wrong with the times people arrive. It is simply the accepted thing to do in their own country.
(1)The author was unhappy as mentioned in Paragraph 1 because he thought_______.
A.the American bank might hire another person
B.the American bank didn't think much of him
C.it's difficult to get used to American culture
D.it's easy to misunderstand Americans
(2)According to the author, what should we do with most cultural differences?
A.Ask the native people for help.
B.Do things in your own way.
C.Understand and accept them.
D.Do in-depth research.
(3)When invited to a party the people who are usually punctual are_______.
A.Germans
B.Italians
C.Greeks
D.The British
