【答案】

Dear Peter,

It’s my pleasure to introduce my high school life to you.

In the past three years, I have been studying in a senior high school with a history of more than 100 years and high standards of discipline and a good atmosphere for study. In order to know more about foreign countries, I focus more attention on English. As a result, my school performance is highly thought of, especially I have made much progress in English.

As an English saying goes, “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy”. I don’t want to be that Jack, so I am also actively involved in extracurricular activities.

The College Entrance Examination is approaching. I hope to be admitted to Tsinghua University and devote myself to scientific research.

Best wishes!

Yours,

Li Hua

【題目】Last night’s meteor (流星) shower left many people in the community dissatisfied and demanding answers. According to Gabe Rothschild, Emerald Valley’s mayor, people gathered in the suburbs of the city, carrying heavy telescopes, expecting to watch the brightly burning meteors passing through the sky. What they found instead was a sky so brightened by the city’s lights that it darkened the light of the meteors passing overhead.

“My family was so frustrated,” admitted town resident Duane Cosby, “We wanted to make this an unforgettable family outing, but it turned out to be a huge disappointment.”

Astronomers---scientists who study stars and planets----have been complaining about this problem for decades. They say that light pollution prevents them from seeing objects in the sky that they could see quite easily in the past. They call on people and the government to take measures to fight against it.

There is yet a population besides professional and amateur star observers that suffers even more from light pollution. This population consists of birds, bats frogs, snakes, etc. For example, outdoor lighting severely affects migrating (遷徙的) birds. According to the International Dark-Sky Association, “100 million birds a year throughout North America die in crashes with lighted buildings and towers.”

Countless more animals casualties(傷亡)result from the use of artificial lighting. Clearly, people enjoy the benefits of lighting their evenings, but some scientists think it can be harmful for humans, too. They worry that exposure to light while sleeping can increase person’s chances of getting cancer.

Emerald Valley is only one community that is becoming aware of the negative effects of light pollution. For years, Flagstaff, Arizona, has enforced lighting regulations in its city in order to assist astronomers at the Lowell Observatory. Similar efforts have been made worldwide, and a movement is underway to remind us to turn off lights when we are not using them, so that other creatures can share the night.

【題目】根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容,從短文后的選項(xiàng)中選出能填入空白處的最佳選項(xiàng)。選項(xiàng)中的兩項(xiàng)為多余選項(xiàng)。

Of the many unpleasant emotions we can experience, fear may top the list. 【1 . Fear can also keep us from pursuing the things in life that really matter—like following our dreams, and developing important relationships. I have some ideas, though, of how to be free from fear.

●Experience fear.

I used to be very afraid of speaking in front of people. I would get sweaty palms and my stomach would be so tied up that I wouldn’t be able to eat. However, each time I spoke, I noticed afterwards that it wasn’t that bad. Things I fear are never as bad in reality as I make them out in my mind. 2 .

●Create space.

The first and most important step to being fearless is to create some space between ourselves and the emotion of fear. This isn’t accomplished by ignoring the fear, or trying to talk ourselves out of it. 3 . In fact, a recent research shows that by simply admitting the emotion we actually begin to reverse the “fight or flight(逃避)” response in the body.

●Control the breath and feel the fear.

Once we acknowledge the presence of fear, the second step is to control the breathing so that it becomes slower and gentler. We try to make the breath just a little bit longer, and feel how fear manifests(展現(xiàn))in the body.4 .

With practice, we can create enough space between us and the emotion of fear so that we’re able to replace a fearful thought with a positive one. 5 . For instance, before I get up to speak in front of a group of people, I imagine that the audience is positively impressed by what I say and that I manage to complete the speech successfully.

A. We can imagine a positive outcome for whatever we’re about to do.

B. Space is created only when we can honestly acknowledge that fear exists.

C. Fear, if left uncontrolled, can even destroy our life.

D. As we pay attention to the physical symptoms of fear, we can see fear objectively.

E. When we can see a positive outcome in our mind, fear no longer holds us back.

F. But fear is more than just physically unpleasant.

G. So one way to get rid of fear is to simply push ourselves to do things that we fear

Last Sunday my father and I went fishing along a river. We found the water very dirty that we could hardly catch any fish in it. A lot of factories along the river always poured their waste water and rubbish straightly into the river, which made the river polluting. In this way most of the fish in the river was killed. Unless the rivers all over the country are polluted like this, no living things will be exist in the water. As we all know, environmental pollution do great harm to living things and human beings. Now more and more people have come to realize what serious this problem is. Our government is doing her best to take measure to fight against pollution. We expect that water in every river will be made cleaner and cleaner before long.
