Most people usually traveled by ship and train which are driven by steam engine. It played an important part in many kinds of vehicles several scores of years ago. Who invented steam engine and what units could be used to measure the power of engine?

The word ＂horse-power＂ was first used two hundred years ago. James Watt from a worker’s family made the world first widely used steam engine. At first, he couldn’t tell people how powerful it was, because there were no units at that time. Watt decided to find out how much work one strong horse could do in one minute. He named that unit one horse-power. In this way he could measure the work of his steam engine.

He discovered that a horse could lift a 3,300-pound weight 10 feet into the air in one minute. His engine could lift a 3300-pound weight 100 feet in one minute. Because his engine did ten times as much work as the horse, Watt called it a ten horse-power engine.

The other day, I was praising by my teacher at the class meeting. He says before the whole class that only if we put our heart into our lessons could we make a great progress. He also said I set a good example to all of my classmate and that I memorized all the words of Unit 1 as if I was not good at English. He also added that anyone should learn from me. Heard what the teacher said, I was more than glad and my heart beat wild. At the same time, I made my mind to study harder. ·Towner Writer Squad (班組）for kids aged 13-17

Led by comedy and TV writer, Marian Kilpatrick, Towner Writer Squad will meet once a month at the contemporary art museum for 11 months, starting 12 October, 2014.

The FREE squad sessions will include introductions to a wide range of writing styles, from poetry to play writing and lyrics (抒情詩）to flash fiction, to support the development of young writers.

·Beginner Writing Project for kids aged 10-13

Due to popular demand, a writing project will be started for eager beginners.

Start time: 6 September, 2014

Meet every other Saturday，2-4pm, at the Towner Study Centre.

Study and write at your own pace 一 you do not have to rush 一 as you have a year to go through the project. Practise under the guidance of some experienced writers and teachers who can help you with basic writing skills. Most importantly, build confidence and have fun while writing!

No previous experience or special background is required. Many others have been successful this way. If they can do it, why can’t you?

As students, all of us will be faced with a problem after passed the college entrance examination. Should we choose a good major and a good university first? Here are some different ideas. Some more prefer to choose a major first so that they can learn they are interested in. On this way they can put their hearts into study and got their favorite jobs in the future. Other believe that the environment is important to one’s develop and that graduates from key universities are more likely to find good jobs. As far as I’m concerning, maybe the choice should be a good university if we can’t obtain all.

I start working part-time at Pizza Hut in December 1989, where I was a freshman in a high school. The large number of parents in my small town encouraged teenagers work in the service industry after school and on the weekend. Much of my closest friends also worked at Pizza Hut and our wonderful memories was made under that red roof. All new employees started by wash dishes and busing tables original. If they proved their ability to do something well in difficult circumstance, they would learn to make pizzas, to cut and serve for them, and to take orders.
