     Young men are always ready to give flowers to young ladies when they are in love. This tradition may
have come from Turkey.
     In the 1700s in Turkey, it was quite popular for people in love to send each other baskets full of strange things. The baskets were delivered(遞送) secretly by the person who sold flowers or fruit on the street to
the person's door.
     These baskets included a variety of "gifts":flowers, stones, feathers, wax(蠟), and even charcoal(炭).
Each thing in the basket had a special meaning, By figuring out the secret message contained in  each item (項目 ),  the person who received the basket began to understand the true feelings of the person who sent it.
     This idea of sending gifts of love with secret meanings quickly spread to Germany, France and England. However, as time passed, only sending flowers, remained popular.
    Many flower dictionaries were made to help young people in love understand the meaning of the flowers they received . Not all of the dictionaries agreed,  however, on the meaning of each flower,  so a person
had to be careful about the flowers they chose to send.
     By the 1880s, using flowers to send messages had fallen out of fashion,  and the more direct way of
sending love letters began. Today, flowers are still considered a lovely gift, but the meaning for each kind
of flower has been lost.

     Lots of people like diving into water, because they can explore the underwater world. But there is not
her kind of diving. Some people dive into the sky! This is really a very exciting sport. A skydiver goes high up in the air on a plane. Then he jumps off the r)lane and floats in the air with the help of a parachute(降落傘). A parachute is like a huge umbrella. It is put on the back of the skydiver. When the skydiver reaches a certain height, he will pull a string and the parachute will open up in seconds and carry him gently down
to the ground. Skydivers like doing a lot of fascinate tricks in the air. After jumping off the plane one after
another, they will try to stay in the air and hold each other's hands. They can form different shapes.
     Is it safe to do skydiving?Yes, as long as we receive right training.But sometimes, accidents do happen. In Canada, two skydivers were killed in 1991 when they jumped off the plane. Because their parachutes
got tied up with each other, the parachutes couldn't open up and both crashed down and died.

Dear Dad,
      I'm writing to you from Beijing. Maybe you don't know how happy I am here.
      Mother and I arrived here on the night of the 10th. Aunt Wang met us at the station. The next morning, we got up early. It was Sunday and Uncle took us out for a ride on the bus. Everything was so beautiful. I was so excited and so was Mother.
      That afternoon Aunt Wang took us to Beihai Park. First we climbed the hill, and then we went boating on the lake. While we were there, we met some overseas Chineses(華僑).They come back to China every year. They are very proud of China because it is becoming stronger and more beautiful every day.
      I haven't seen the Summer Palace yet. Uncle has promised to take me there and the zoo this coming
Sunday. Yesterday Uncle took me to see his company.
