　　It was Mother’s Day．A man stopped his car at a flower shop to order some flowers．He wanted the shopkeeper to send the flowers to his mother, who lived two hundred miles away．

　　As he got out of his car, he found a young girl sitting on the road crying．

　　He asked her what was wrong and she replied, “I want to buy a red rose for my mother, but I only have seventy\-five cents．A rose two dollars．”

　　The man smiled and said, “Come into the shop with me, and I’ll buy you a rose．”

　　He bought the little girl her rose and ordered his own mother’s flowers．As they were leaving, he offered to drive the girl home．She said, “Yes, please! You can take me to my mother．” She brought him to a cemetery(墓地), where she placed the rose on the grave．

　　The man was moved．He returned to the flower shop, picked up the flowers he ordered, and drove two hundred miles to his mother’s house．

　　Many children use the Internet to get useful knowledge and information, and to relax in their free time．But some of them are not using in a good way．Here are some rules to make sure you are safe and have fun on the Internet．

　　●Make rules for Internet use with your parents．For example, when you can go online, for how long and what activities you can go online．

　　●Don’t give your password(密碼)to anyone else, and never leak out the following information－your real name, home address, age, school, phone number or other personal information．

　　●Check with your parents before giving out a credit(信用)card number．

　　●Never send a photo of yourself to someone in e-mail unless your parents say it’s OK．

　　●Check with your parents before going into a chat room．Different chat rooms have different rules and attract different kinds of people．You and your parents mut make sure it’s a right place for you．

　　●Never agree to meet someone you met on the Internet without your arent’s permission(允許)．Never meet anyone you met on line alone．

　　●Always remember that people online may not be who they say they are．Treat everyone online as strangers．

　　●If something you see or read online makes you uncomfortable, leave the site．Tell a parent or teacher right away．

　　●Treat other people as you’d like to be treated．Never use ad language．

　　●Remember－not everything you read on the Internet is true．

　　‘Good, now, you can sit here and knit(編織)this for me while I go and have a rest．’ To show that you are no more a child, you have to sit there the whole afternoon doing the work, which only a grown-up can do．After an hour, you find it hard to do, and give the knitting basket back to your grandma．Your grandma criticizes your work．You hear what she says, “Such a bad girl can’t do such easy work．’ You wish then you were a child again．

　　It interested Mr Baker, “But what shall we bet on?” “I can bite my left eyeball,” said the old man, “I can bet you five dollars．”

　　Mr Baker didn’t believe and passed ＄5 on the table．

　　The old man took out his glass eyeball, put it into his mouth and bite it．Mr Baker had to give his money．

　　“It doesn’t matter young man,” the old man said．“I’ll give you a chance to win the money back．I can also bite my right eye．I’ll bet you ＄10．”

　　“I’m sure he’s able to see．And I must win his money,” he thought．So he took out ten dollars from his wallet．

　　But he was very surprised, the old man took out his false(假的)teeth and bit his right eye with it．Then he put the money into his pocket and went away quickly．

　　The farmer had only two pairs of shoes．

　　When the daughter ran back to the house, she found that the other pair was also a pair of wrong shoes．

　　She had to return to his father with nothing in her hands and said out of breath, “It’s no use changing them, Daddy! The shoes at home were not a pair, either!”
