Here are some tips on listening. We hope it can help you in one way or other.
●Relax yourself.
Before yon start to listen to something, you need to relax . Don' t get nervous or excited . This will help you with your listening.
●Listen carefully to the first sentence.
The first sentence tells a lot about the whole passage . For example, ff at the very beginning, you hear "Many shops in many parts of China have decided to take away all kinds of Japanese goods off their shelves but some people say it' s not a good idea. Our reporter says... " yon know you will hear a piece of news, not a children' s story, or a science report.
●Think when you're listening .
When you're listening , try to do some thinking . For example, you can think of the following questions: What happened , When, where and how ? What was the result and what does the speaker want to tell us ? This way, you may understand the passage better.
●Listen for important facts.
It's important for you to remember some important facts. For example, if the passage is a science report , you should try to remember its findings and how the scientists got their results.
●Don' t think about one or two words for too long.
You may hear some words that you don' t know ,but don' t spend too much time on them. Very often, you'll find out what they mean later when you go on with the listening. But you can remember some words or sentences that you think are import/rot, and you can use them when you're answering the questions.

Here are some American classroom customs:
If the teacher asks a question, you are expected to give an answer. If you do not understand the question, you should put up your hand and ask the teacher to repeat the question. If you do not know the answer, it is all right to tell the teacher that you do not know. Then he or she knows what you need to learn.
There is no excuse for not doing your homework. If you are absent (缺席), you should ear your teacher or someone who is in your class and ask for the assignment(作業(yè)). It is your responsibility (責任) to find out what assignments you have missed. It is not the teacher's responsibility to remind you of missed assignments.
You must not be absent on a test day. If you are seriously ill, call and let the teacher, know you will not he there for the test. If your teacher allows make - up tests, you should take the test within one or two days after returning to class. Serious illness is the only reason for missing a test.
Be on time! It is considered(認為) rude to be late. Also, it disturbs other students. If you must come in late, be sure to do it quietly. Have your books and papers out of your bag before you come into the room. Then go to your seat and sit quietly. In the U. S. it is not necessary to knock before you enter the classroom. If you must leave during class, do so quietly. There is no need to ask the teacher's per-mission. Entering a teacher's office or any office with a closed door without knocking fast is not accept-able. Knock first, then wait to he invited in.
Wearing a hat in class is considered impolite by many teachers. Some teachers may ignore it, but you should ask permission first.
