【題目】 Bobby Buns was a very amusing and lively young man. He had his own cafe. During a visit to his parents' village, he discovered a special young cow. Instead of producing milk, this cow produced milk coffee.

Bobby thought that the cow could help him make money, so he took it straight to the city. When he arrived home, Bobby's wife told him that he should organize the cafe to make room for the cow first. But Bobby didn't listen to his wife's advice. He was so excited and impatient that he took the cow straight to the cafe.

Before long, the cafe began to lose customers. What's more, someone came to do an inspection. They put a heavy fine on Bobby that he almost had to close his cafe. Then Bobby realized that he had to be more patient and organized. He should wait until everything was ready serving his freshly milked milk coffee.

After learning from his failure, Bobby recognized his cafe and took the cow back to the village. There he discovered that one of the new hens laid chocolate eggs. This time he knew he had to be patient and wait until everything was ready.

【題目】 I was an unlucky nurse who had to work on Christmas Day. It was always quiet in the emergency room on this day, so I was not expecting any patients. When I was complaining about working on such a beautiful festival, a pale woman and four small children showed up at my desk.

"Are you all sick?" I asked suspiciously because they seemed all right.

"Yes," the woman answered in a low voice and lowered her head.

But when it comes to their problems, things got a little strange. Two of the children had headaches, but they didn't hold the head. Two children had earaches, but neither of them could tell me which ear was in pain. The mother complained of a cough, but she seemed to be pretending.

Something was wrong. I didn't say anything but explained that it might take a while before a doctor could meet them. "Take your time, please," the mother answered. I checked their charts-no address. Suddenly I knew, they were homeless and the hospital was warm.

I looked out at the family, sitting together under the Christmas tree, smiling and chatting with each other sweetly. Quietly, I went back to the nurses' station and told them that they had a homeless family in the waiting room. The nurses's station suddenly came back to life. All he nurses came into action, just as we did when there was a real medical emergency. But this one was a "Christmas emergency."

We took out our meals for our Christmas "patients". We also put together oranges and apples as presents. Usually we just tried to meet the physical needs of our patients. But today, we worked hard to exceed the needs of a family who only wanted a warm place on Christmas Day.

【題目】 Paintings found on the walls of caves in the Sahara Desert suggest that a few thousand years ago, large quantities of plants grew there and covered the desert floor. Many curious and unusual insects, birds and animals got enough food that allowed them to grow and reproduce. At that time, huge river systems and many oases s1 growing communities (社團(tuán), 社區(qū)) where a large number of people lived.

Research scientists believe that the land became a desert for several reasons. For centuries people there have wandered from place to place in search of food, water and grazing (吃草) land for their animals. These people have always considered the number of animals they have as a sign of w2. It is considered more important to have 100 sick and starving animals than 15 healthy ones. The large herds () have been allowed to go freely and graze on desert plants and grass. Over time, large sections of land have been left uncovered. B3 overgrazing, these people cut down whatever trees they could find and used them for firewood. The sand was unable to hold on to the great heat of the day, so nighttime temperatures often drop below freezing and n4 was left to hold the soil together.

Scientists have been studying different ways to bring back the green desert. Through research and experiments, they hope to be able to produce plants that will once again support the life there. Huge holes f5 with much water lie under the desert surface. Scientists believe this rainwater simply flew down through the sand over hundreds of years and collected in the big, rocky holding tanks. By making use of the sun's power, scientists in the Sahara have made experiments in which they got huge amount of electricity. This electricity was then used to operate drilling machines and pumps to pull the rainwater from the underground tanks. By drilling the hole one mile deep into the floor of the desert, one machine was able to recover more than 80 gallons of ice-cold water each second, or 288,000 gallons per hour.

Scientists have had some s6 turning this wasteland into useful farmland. Today the desert is dotted with huge wheat fields watered by a system of pipes that carry water from the underground tanks. Farmers have also learnt that plants grow better if seeds are planted next to stones. Studies show that stones provide protection from the sun, allowing seeds to grow in a shady and cool environment. In addition to that, greenhouses have been built to protect plants from the sunshine so that l7 water is needed. Another idea is to grow plants that can live on a diet of salt water, since the ocean is so near to the desert.
