【題目】Up to 65% of children don't get as much sleep as they should do, and this can make them nervous and slower at school, scientists say.

So how long should young people sleep each night? The answer is between eight and ten hours. If you don't get enough sleep at night, you'll have less energy the next day.

But the scientists say many children have missed out on 4, 500 hours of sleep by the time they are seven years old. They say that children miss sleep because they have TVs and computers in their rooms, and busy parents don't read to their younger children at night any more. The traditional "bedtime story" helps children to relax and fall asleep peacefully. Children with TVs and computers in their bedrooms are more likely to sleep badly, and to get less than eight hours' sleep. Even losing one hour's sleep a night can mean that children do less well at school.

German scientists think that your brain(大腦)keeps working while you are asleep. To show that they were right, they gave two groups of people a problem to work out. One group went to sleep, and the other group stayed awake. The result? The people who slept worked out the answer

more quickly. This showed that their brains had been trying to find the answer while the people were asleep. So, make sure you get enough sleep tonight, and you'll be at your best tonight, and you'll be at your best tomorrow!

1What problem do more than a half of students have?

A. They don't get on well with their studies.

B. They don't have enough sleep at night.

C. They don't relax themselves at school.

D. They don't follow their school rules

2According to the third paragraph, what influences many children's sleep worst?

A. Their parents' noise. B. Bedtime stories.

C. Too much homework. D. TV and computers.

3The German scientists' experiment showed that _______.

A. our study depended on our sleep

B. our sleep helped improve our health

C. our brain worked while we were asleep

D. our brain worked faster during sleep

4This passage is mainly written for _______.

A. parents B. school teachers

C. scientists D. young students

【題目】If you have a brother or sister, you already know you are different from each other. You live together in the same house and have the same parents, but you have different personalities.

Why is this? One possible reason is the way your parents treat you. First-born children receive all the attention from their parents. Most families have twice as many photos of a first-born than any other child. Parents usually give first-born more responsibility and depend on them to take care of younger brothers and sisters. As a result, first-borns are often responsible, hard-working, andjealous. They often want to do well at school and work. There are more first-born American Presidents, for example, George Bush, George Washington, and Lyndon Baines Johnson-than second or last-born children.

When a second child arrives, parents are more relaxed. The second child has to compete with the first-born for the parents’ attention and love. Their children often choose different sports and hobbies to do well at school and work, but have to be creative to get their family’s attention. They are often friendly and cool. Many famous talk-show hosts were born last.

1The writer thinks that the second children are often ______.

A. outgoing and jealous B. cool and friendly

C. hard-working and serious D. creative and responsible

2The underlined word “jealous” means______ in the passage.

A. 友好的 B. 冷靜的 C. 快樂的 D. 嫉妒的

3______is usually the happiest in the family according to the passage.

A. The eldest child. B. The second child.

C. The youngest child. D. The father.

4We can learn from the passage that .

A. the second child is very similar to the first-born child

B. brothers and sisters usually have the same personalities

C. it’s easy for the second child to get his or her parents’ attention

D. there are more first-born successful people than second or last-born people

5The passage is mainly about ______.

A. birth order and personalities

B. the personalities of the second child in a family

C. the personalities of the eldest child in a family

D. the personalities of the youngest child in a family

【題目】Ask any student which subject he or she hates most, 9 out of 10 students will answer "math". No matter which country you visit, no matter which grade you are in, you may not learn art, geography, chemistry or Chinese, but you always learn math. Why is this so? How come so many students hate math, and yet cannot avoid learning it in school?

Jenny Sanders, a high school student in California, asks, "What good do we get from learning math? We can use computers to compute numbers, and we can use computers to store information. I think learning math at school is a waste of time."

However, there is much more to math than just learning to add and subtract()numbers. In fact, math is not so much about calculation as it is about learning to think logically and solving problems. Of course,Jenny was right that we could use computers to do calculations, but how would we even know how to use the computer if we couldn't think logically? In short, computers are only tools when solving problems.

For example, imagine you are a cook and must serve dinner to 100 guests. How should you divide your resources so that you can get the job done most efficiently(高效地)?In situations like this, the ability to think logically will get you to a reasonable answer and solve your problem.

1According to the passage, which subject do students always learn in different grades at school?

A. Chinese. B. Math. C. Geography. D. Art.

2What does Jenny Sanders think of learning math?

A. Interesting. B. Boring. C. Useless. D. Difficult.

3Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?

A. 90% of the students hate learning math.

B. Students can learn math well with computers.

C. Math can do calculations and store information.

D. Math helps students learn all the other subjects well.

4What does the writer want to tell us ?

A. Math is just learning to add and subtract numbers.

B. Math can be good for both our body and our mind.

C. Math helps us think logically and solve problems.

D. Math can help students find a good job in the future.
