Having been translating some of the most valuable ancient Chinese literary works to Spanish(西班牙語) for years, Alicia Relinque has found the key to happiness in her life. When asked by a reporter, “It is the Chinese literature,” said Relinque, a modest and peaceful teacher.

She easily becomes excited when talking about Chinese culture and classic(經(jīng)典的) literature. Relinque’s translation works include The Peony Pavilion(牡丹亭) by Tang Xianzu in the 16th century --- a romantic play about a love story, and The Orphan of Zhao --- a drama written in the 13th century similar to Hamlet, which are excellent classic works in Chinese culture.

When translating a famous Chinese novel which she liked a lot, she slept only six hours every day in six years because she spent lots of time reading materials about Chinese politics, history and society during that period of time.

After four years’ Chinese study in Peking University, she learnt that the University of Granada would open a department in Asian studies, so she moved to the city in south Spain in 1994 and has stayed there ever since.

She started the Chinese classical literature study in Spain, and therefore made the University of Granada a major place of sinology(漢學(xué)) in the country.

Given her excellent work in translating Chinese classic literature, Relinque was granted(授予) a special prize by the Chinese government in 2017.

“Spain should pay more attention to China, and on the other hand, I ask my students to study Chinese history because the country’s today and future lie in history,” said Relinque.

A spacesuit is much more than a set of clothes astronauts wear on spacewalks. A full spacesuit is really a one-person spacecraft. The spacesuit protects the astronaut from the dangers of being outside in space.

Spacesuits help astronauts in several ways. Spacewalking astronauts face different temperatures. Around the earth, conditions in space can be as cold as around -156 ℃. In the sunlight, they can be as hot as 121 ℃. A spacesuit protects astronauts from those extreme temperatures.

Spacesuits also provide astronauts with O2 to breathe while they are in the space. They contain water to drink during spacewalks. They protect astronauts from being hit by a small object in space. It may not sound very dangerous, but when even the small object is moving many times faster than a bullet, it can cause injury. Spacesuits also protect astronauts from radiation(輻射) in space. The suits even have parts to protect astronauts’ eyes from the bright sunlight.

The spacesuit includes several pieces. The body equipment covers the astronaut’s body. The arm equipment covers the arms and connects to the gloves. The helmet (頭盔) and another equipment are designed to protect the astronaut’s head while still allowing him or her to see as much as possible. The Lower equipment covers the astronaut’s legs and feet. These parts have different functions(功能), from keeping O2 within the spacesuit to protecting from being hit.

Under the spacesuit, astronauts wear a set of cooling equipment. Tubes (管子) are put into this tight-fitting piece of clothing that covers the whole body except for the head, hands and feet.

Water moves through these tubes to keep the astronaut cool during the spacewalk. On the back of the spacesuit is a backpack. This backpack provides the O2 that astronauts breathe during a spacewalk. It also takes CO2 away. The backpack also provides electricity for the suit. A fan moves the O2 through the spacesuit and life support systems, and a water tank holds the cooling water that moves through the cooling device.

Another device called the Simplified Aid for Extravehicular Activity Rescue, or SAFER is necessary. If an astronaut became separated from the space station, he or she could use SAFER to fly back.

1.What does a spacesuit provide according to the passage?

A. CO2. B. Food. C. Radiation. D. Electricity.

2.What can we learn from the passage?

A. A small object hurts a little to astronauts in space.

B. SAFER helps astronauts return to the space station.

C. A spacesuit is just a kind of clothes to wear in space.

D. An astronauts needs to wear the spacesuit all the time.

3.Which question can be answered in Paragraph 2&3?

A. What are the parts of a spacesuit?

B. What do astronauts wear in space?

C. Why do temperatures change a lot?

D. Why do astronauts need spacesuits?

There was an ancient Chinese story. A naughty boy Mencius and his family lived next to the cemetery(墓地). Mencius liked to hold a funeral(葬禮) just like people around. Mencius’ mother took him and moved to a market. Then Mencius and his neighbors’ children learned to buy and sell meat. Finally, they moved again and lived next to a school. In this neighborhood, people treated each other politely. Mencius’ mother thought that was the right living place for her son.

The story tells us the importance of people around us. For students, they can be role models.

In a study, I interviewed some students at Bingham High School. These teens have lots of opinions about role models.

Teens need role models to provide direction. Jeff Pratt said, “To have a role model helps you to decide where you want to go with your life.” A role model shows what a teen’s life could be like in the future. “Role models are people you admire, and those people that help make you a good person.” This is Spencer Park’s opinion of who role models are and why it is important to have them.

A role model is “someone to look at and try to learn good qualities from,” said Natalie Bean.

When teens were asked “What is a role model like?”, the list included words such as, encouraging, inspiring, strong-willed, honest, ready to stand up for what they believe in, helpful, easy to talk to, talented and cheerful. Teens want to learn from their role models how to succeed and also how to carry on after failure.

Robbie Jenkins said, “Good role models are people that stand up for what is right and good.

Role models encourage and inspire.” Heidi Woolley said, “A good role model makes a teen do the best in school and in life and make much progress. Then he will have a good opinion of his own abilities and accept himself gradually. In this way, role models help build up a teen’s self-esteem.”

“The role models teens need are not the ones that appear in the media,” said Natalie Bean.

My study also shows students are quick to agree on that a true role model is not the person with the best job title, the greatest responsibility, or the greatest fame(名望). Anyone who inspires a child to achieve dreams in life can be a right role model.

1.The writer uses the story in Paragraph 1 to show that _______________.

A. People should have good habits.

B. People are influenced by others.

C. People are able to choose good neighbours.

D. People know how to choose a living place.

2.What do students at Bingham High School probably agree?

A. Role models stand up for what is right and social.

B. Anyone can inspire a child to achieve dreams in life.

C. Having a role model decides where to go with your life.

D. A teen can learn good qualities from a good role model.

3.What does the underlined word “self-esteem” mean?

A. Self-respect. B. Self-control. C. Self-praise. D. Self-support.

4.What’s the writer’s main purpose in this passage?

A. To know what students’ role models do.

B. To tell how a teen learn from a role model.

C. To find out students’ ways to be a role model.

D. To share ideas of some teens about role models.

閱讀短文,根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容回答問題。

I sometimes find that watching a film adaptation (改編) of a book helps me to understand a book. This is especially true for books from a different period or with a difficult dialect (方言).

My favourite examples of these include Pride and Prejudice, which is also my favourite book, and Trainspotting, which is written in Scottish dialect.

Film and TV adaptations of books also mean that books reach a wider audience(觀眾). If people really like the film, they will be encouraged to read the book. As for language learning, watching film or TV adaptations of books can help to provide an understanding of a story. They also help to give a story a more modern adaptation. For example, Oliver is a good adaptation of Charles Dickens’ Oliver Twist. The language in the book can be enough to make a native speaker moved, but the adaptation means that everyone can enjoy the story of the orphan Oliver.

Similarly, the 1996 film Romeo and Juliet, an adaptation of the Shakespeare play of the same name, makes those of us who haven’t studied Shakespeare still enjoy his play in a more interesting and understandable way.

Of course, there are limitations (局限) and not every story that is translated onto the screen is liked by fans of the book, or even the writer. For example, as a writer, P. L. Travers hated Disney’s adaptation of her own book Mary Poppins, but it’s now a well-loved film. For me, I dislike the adaptation of Still Alice by Lisa Genova and her group. They changed the location from Boston to New York for no real reason, which for some readers changes the whole feel of the book.

Anyway, adaptations are a great way to introduce yourself to the story and characters of a book before reading it. They’re also a good way for people who may not feel confident enough to read a whole novel in a different language, but still want to know the story.

1.Is Pride and Prejudice the writer’s favourite book?

2.What will people do if they really like the film?

3.Who hated the adaptation of her own book?

4.Why does the writer dislike the adaptation of Still Alice?

5.What’s the passage mainly about?
