People think that teenagers have a lot of free time, but it's not true. We get a lot of homework. But this term I'd like to do some acting, so I'll probably join the Film Club. I think it's important to do different things, not just study, study, study all the time. A teenager's life isn't easy!

It's 5 a.m.! James has to get up. He is in Africa, on the grassland of Kenya. He is visiting the Masai people（馬賽族人）. He is helping them with their cows. James even carries a stick to keep the lions away. Yes, it's a hard job for a 14-year-old boy from Virginia. But James wants to help them.

James' trip to Africa isn't a holiday. It's part of classes at Langley School. James' teacher is Joseph. He is a member or Africa's Masai people of Kenya. Every summer he takes some of his students and their parents on a two-week trip to his hometown. Kenya is a whole new world for the kids from Virginia. When they get there, the American kids put on Masai clothes. Boys takes care of cows. Girls collect firewood and water. Families there live on their cows. As a result, the Masai and the students have to move a lot, so the cows have grass to eat.

Back in the United States, Kenya is on the minds of the students at Langley School all year. Dry weather has killed many cows in Kenya, so the students created an activities called Cows for Kids to raise money for them. They use the money to buy cows. Each cow costs about $100. "One cow means more to the health of a family than money," says Joseph. "Here we're really giving life. A cow will give a child milk every day." Joseph wants to help people in his hometown. "I'm just trying to give my students a different way of thinking," says Joseph. He says helping the Masai is just one step. He hopes the kids will find out ways to help all those who need it, too.

A baby owl fell out of its nest last week on Washington Boulevard. The bird got help from people at a bird sanctuary. A sanctuary is a place where animals are kept safe. The workers at the Pelican（鵜鶘）Man Bird Sanctuary cared for the bird at their hospital. Then they returned the bird to its nest.

The baby owl fell 40 feet. Luckily, it was not hurt badly. The workers at the hospital fed the bird. The kept it warm and safe. The baby owl looked like a soft white ball and its eyes were still closed.

The workers asked a tree service to help them put the bird back in its nest. The tree service used a crane（起重機） with a long neck to put the baby owl back carefully. The workers thought the other baby probably pushed the baby bird out of its nest.

The team went back after two days to check on the baby owl. Its parents were feeding and taking care of it. The baby owl was safe.

The sanctuary was started by Dale Shields. Dale was called the "Pelican Man" because at first he only helped pelicans. Later he and his helpers started saving any animals in need. So far they have helped birds, deer, bats, foxes turtles, and frogs.

Wild animals get hurt in many ways. For example, water birds get hurt in fishing lines. Animals are also hit by cars or boats. Water and land pollution hurts animals, too. Many of the animals the sanctuary helps are in danger. The workers want to help make sure the animals don't die out.

People call the sanctuary when they see a hurt bird or other wildlife. Sanctuary workers go to pick up the animals. Then they take the animal to the hospital. Their work helps many animals survive.

Half of the animals the sanctuary helped finally returned to the wild. Other animals, like Moe, need special care. Moe is a swan who was hurt by a dog. It lost one of its wings, so it can't fly. Today, Moe and other animals like him live at the sanctuary.
