I was in line waiting to pay. A little boy in the front was buying some clothes.
I noticed that the little boy was paying mostly with change (零錢). It seemed that he had broken his pig bank (豬形儲蓄罐) to do this shopping. However, the cashier told him he was $ 8.00 short after counting his money.
It was clear that the boy had already used all the money. The lady in front of me said, “Well, I could pay half of that.” I told the boy that I could pay the other half. We searched our handbags. However, both of us only had ten-dollar bills (紙幣). Other customers behind began searching their pockets to find some change. It was amazing and moving that all these strangers seemed to have the same idea. All of us wanted to help the boy. Within minutes the cashier said, “I have too much money.” The cashier didn’t need our ten-dollar bills. Then the lady in front of me said, “Wait! I didn’t get a chance to give anything!”
I smiled at her and said, “You did your share, because it was your idea and you started all this.” The little boy smiled and thanked us. I was left with a good feeling. I saw the love and goodness of others all around me. The woman in front of me smiled and said, “It feels good to give, doesn’t it?” I smiled back and said, “Yes!”

Hundreds of years ago, news was carried from place to place by people on foot or by horse. It took days, weeks and sometimes months for people to receive news. Now it is possible to send words and pictures around the world in seconds. Billions of people learn about news stories of their motherland and over the world every day, either by watching TV or by reading newspapers.
Many countries have hundreds of different newspapers since the 18th century. From then on, newspapers have been an important part of everyday life. How do newspaper editors decide which news stories to print (印刷)? Why do they print some stories but not others?
Firstly, it is important to report news stories. TV stations can report news much faster than newspapers. Yet, newspapers give more about the same stories. They may also look for stories in another way, or they may print completely different stories to those on TV.
Secondly, a news story has to be interesting and unusual. People don’t want to read stories about everyday life. As a result, many stories are about some kinds of danger and seem to be “bad” news. For example, newspapers never print stories about planes landing safely, instead, they print stories about plane accidents.
Another factor(因素) is also very important in many news stories. Many people are interested in news from foreign countries, but more prefer to read stories about people, places and events in their own countries. So the stories on the front page in Chinese newspapers are usually very different from the ones in British, French and American newspapers.

This morning was terrible for me. My tooth was aching, and I'd been in an argument with a friend. Her words still hurt : “Linda, the trouble with you is that you won't put yourself in my place. Can't you see things from my point of view?” I shook my head strongly--and felt the ache in my tooth. I'd thought I could stand the ache until my dentist who was on vacation came back, but the pain was really unbearable(無法忍受的). So I started calling the other dentists in the phone book, but no one could see me immediately(立刻). Finally, at about lunchtime, I got lucky.
“If you come by right now, madam” the nurse said, “the dentist will fit you in.”
I took my bag and keys and rushed to my car. But suddenly I began to doubt about the dentist. Why wasn't he as busy as the others?
In the dentist’s office, I sat down and looked around. I saw nothing but the white walls and I became even more worried. The nurse noticed my nervousness and put her warm hand over my ice-cold hand.
When I told her my fears, she laughed and said, “Don't worry. The dentist is very good.”
“How long do I have to wait for him?” I asked impatiently.
“Come on, he is coming. Just lie down and relax. And enjoy the artwork,” the nurse said.
“The artwork?” I was puzzled.
The chair went back. Suddenly I smiled. There was a beautiful picture, right where I could enjoy it: on the ceiling(天花板). How considerate the dentist was! At that moment, I began to understand what my friend meant by her words.
根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容, 回答問題。
1.Who did Linda argue with this morning?
2.Why did Linda call the other dentists in the phone book?

5.Where was the beautiful picture?
