Robots are about to enter our lives. From doing housework,to entertaining and educating our children,to looking after the elderly, scientists say we will soon be welcoming their creations into our homes and workplaces.
Researchers believe we are on the cusp of a robot revolution (革命) that will mirror the quick growth of the computer revolution from the 1980s. They are developing new laws for robot behavior, and designing new ways for humans and robots to interact (互動) .
“I think robots will change who we are, just as eyeglasses and fire changed who we were before, says Rodey Brooks, the director of the MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory.
Some ideas, some technologies may sound like science fiction 科幻小說) ,hut they are fast becoming science fact. Robots available in business areas are already beginning to perform everyday tasks like cleaning our floors. The latest types from Japan are able to help the elderly to get out of the bed or get up after a fall. They can remind them when to take a rest,or even help wash their hair.
“Today's robots are not human like. For example they are things like automatic (自動的) beds and wheelchairs, ” says Professor Isshiguro at Osaka University,Japan. He believes the time is coming when robots start looking less like machines, and more like us. “In the near future we are going to use more human-like robots,I really think so,J , says the Japanese professor.
Professor Maja Mataric at the University of Southern California agrees. u Ym very excited about the fact that today we have machines that are put together with people in a daily life setting ,” she says.
“Robots could be used in education, learning, and healthcare, where social support is important ,” says Dr. Cynthia Breazeal, director of the Personal Robots Group at MIT.

Most people think that the capital of the movie world is Hollywood,in the United States. However, the real movie capital is Mumbai,in India. Mumbai used to be known as Bombay, and so the film industry there is called “ Bollywood”. Bollywood makes twice as many movies each year as Hollywood, more than 800 films a year.
However, the movies from Bollywood are very different from Hollywood movies. For one thing,Bollywood movies are much longer than most Hollywood movies. Bollywood films have many different features, such as singing, dancing, action, adventure, mystery and romance. This style of film is sometimes called a “masala” film. “Masala” is an Indian word for a mixture of spices (調味品) .
Another big difference between Bollywood and Hollywood movies is the way the movies are made. It takes much longer to make a movie in Hollywood than in Bollywood. In fact, filming may begin on a Bollywood movie before the script is even finished. The director and writers can make up the story while the film is being made. Sometimes they will even write the script by hand instead of taking time to type it.
Bollywood actors are very popular and some are in such great need that they may work on several movies at the same time. They may even shoot (拍攝) scenes for several films on the same day using the same costumes and scenery. Since most Bollywood movies follow the same kind of story, shooting scenes for several films at the same time is not a big problem for actors and directors. This also helps keep the cost of Bollywood movies lower than that of Hollywood movies.
28. Why are Bollywood films often called “masala” films?
A. Because they have romantic stories.
B. Because they show Indian culture.
C. Because they mix different features.
D. Because they are longer than Hollywood films.
29. Bollywood movies are cheap to make because .
A. the scripts are written by hand
B. they are shorter than Hollywood films
C. many movies reuse things from other movies
D. the movies do not use any special skills
30. Which of the following would the writer probably agree with?
A. Most of the Bollywood movies are quite similar to each other.
B. It takes less time to make a movie in Hollywood than in Bollywood.
C. It costs more money to make a Bollywood movie than a Hollywood movie.
D. It is difficult for Bollywood actors to work on several movies at the same time.
