【題目】閱讀短文,根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容回答問(wèn)題。

Everybody knows that soccer is one of the most popular sports in the world.

Soccer is not a new sport. People all over the world played the game in different ways long ago. For example, in China nearly 2,000 years ago, soldiers kicked a ball as part of their exercise. Five hundred years ago in Europe, games in the street were common.

Soccer became popular in England in the 1800s. Different schools, clubs and groups played with different rules. In 1863, these English groups had meetings. They organized(組織)the different games into one game with similar rules. Soon, they formed the Football Association.

Not everyone agreed with the new rules. In England, some groups wanted to hold the ball with their hands so these groups formed rugby clubs. Groups in the United States also wanted to use their hands in the sport so they formed"football"clubs. Americans who didn't want to use their hands called the game “soccer”. Soccer is a short form of the word association.

From England, soccer began to grow. The first official international game of soccer was played between Scotland and England in 1872. By the 1880s, there were professional soccer teams in several parts of Europe. English players also introduced soccer to Africa, South America and New Zealand.

Soccer soon became very popular all around the world. FIFA, the international football federation(聯(lián)盟), met for the first time in 1904. Seven countries came to the meeting. The first World Cup was in Uruguay in 1930. Only 13 countries played in the Uruguayan World Cup.

The World Cup is now the most popular sporting event in the world. Over 720 million people around the world watch the final game of the World Cup.

Next time you're playing soccer with your friends, remember that you're part of a long history of a fun and exciting sport.

1Is soccer a new sport?

2Why did people form “football”clubs in America?

3When was the first official international game of soccer?

4What is the passage mainly about?

【題目】 Last week, Class 1 went on a trip to London Zoo. They had a wild day out! Almost all the students found their favourite animals. The trip also gave Class 1 something else to talk about. They argued(爭(zhēng)論) about whether(是否) zoos are cruel(殘酷的). The zoo animals are from all around the world. How can they all be comfortable?

Lucy, one of our reporters, was with Class 1 students and she interviewed Tom.

Lucy: What 's your favorite animal, Tom?

Tom: Giraffes.

Lucy: Why?

Tom: They look so strange! They have such long, long necks! And they have really long legs, too.

Lucy: They do look strange. How tall do they grow?

Tom: About 18 feet tall. They can run fast too, because their legs are so long. They can run up to 35 miles an hour.

Lucy: That 's pretty fast! They must eat a lot to be able to run that fast. Do they eat a lot of meat?

Tom: NO, they don't eat any meat. They eat leaves. That's the only thing they eat.

Lucy: Do giraffes live all over the world, too?

Tom: No, they don't. They live only in Africa.

Lucy: But Africa is a lot hotter than Europe! Don't you think it's cruel to bring giraffes over from Africa to Europe? Don 't you think it's cruel to keep them in the zoo?

Tom: Well, I enjoyed seeing them today. But in Africa they would have miles and miles of grassland to live on and here they only have the giraffe houses. I'm sure the zoo looks after them very well. But I don't think they should be in zoos.
