During one vacation, Joe was preparing his home for the kids: cleaning and buying their favorite foods. After he finished working, he realized he lost his favourite watch. The watch was a gift from his wife when their first child was born. Joe treasured the watch very much, especially after his wife’s death. He was very upset about losing it.

One granddaughter asked: “Grandpa, do you remember when you saw the watch last before it went missing?”

Everyone can change the world

What can we do to help protect the environment? It seems useless to just pick up a piece of trash (垃圾), but what will happen if you keep doing it every day? Tommy Kleyn, an ordinary man from the Netherlands, may give you the answer.

Tommy Kleyn walked past a polluted river on his way to work every day. It used to be a beautiful view, but the trash on the bank made it dirty and smelly. SoTommy decided to pick up the trash along the river a little bit at a time after work. “It took me about 30 minutes to fill one garbage(垃圾)bag with trash, but one garbage bag didn't seem helpful in a place as polluted as this. I decided to fill one bag of trash each day as I passed by,"Tommy said. Every day,Tommy took pictures of the river and shared them on his Facebook page. To his surprise, in just six days, he had made great progress with his cleanup effort(努力). He felt happy and kept doing it. Gradually, more and more people knew aboutTommy's story. Other people in the community began following in his footsteps and cleaning up trash on their way home, too.

“The idea is to encourage people to fill one garbage bag with litter each day. It only takes 30 minutes, but it really makes a difference and you will be amazed at how good you feel afterwards," he said.

People from all over the world have been moved and inspired(激發(fā)) by Tommy's story. No effort is useless if we keep doing it every day. Ordinary people like you and me can also make a difference to the world we live in if we take actions right now.

【1Did Tommy Kleyn walk past a polluted river on his way to work every day?

【2What did Tommy decide to do after work?

【3Where didTommy share the pictures of the river that he took?

【4Whobegan following in Tommy’s footsteps and cleaning up trash?

【題目】Last summer, Maria and her mother moved from their house in the countryside to building in Chicago. Maria really liked some things about the city, but she missed her house and yard in the countryside.

One day, Maria was in her flat building when she noticed her neighbor, Mrs. Garcia, carrying a gardening tool and a bag of soil. Maria wondered how Mrs. Garcia was able to garden in the city.

“My mom used to grow the most delicious vegetables, and I know she misses her garden now that we don't have a yard,” said Maria.

Mrs. Garcia laughed. “I’ll show you,” she said.

Maria thought that Mrs. Garcia would take her to the park, but she took her to the roof (屋頇). When the door opened, Maria was surprised to see rows of flowers and vegetables on the roof.

“What a wonderful garden! “ said Maria.

Mrs. Garcia told Maria that for a long time the roof was just an empty space. Then some of the people in the building asked the owners to turn it into a community garden. The building owners liked the idea because the plants not only helped to keep the air clean, but they also helped to keep the building cooler during warmer weather.

“I plant flowers in my own place,” Mrs. Garcia said, but you would be surprised by how different the plants are up here. Some people grow vegetables just like your mom. You can do some of the same things in the city as in the countryside. You just have to be creative ! "

1Which of the following is NOT the advantage of the community garden?
