【題目】Frank is a student. He likes playing with his phone very much. And he keeps the phone with him at all times. His dad thinks he is addicted(上癮的) to his phone. But Frank doesn’t think so. They write to each other.

Dear Frank,

You’ve heard the warnings. It’s reported that fifty percent of the teenagers depend on their phones too much. I think you have this problem too. That’s why I think you should give up your phone. Not forever, just for a week. I’m warned that you are developing some bad habits. You keep your phone with you all the time—you even check the basketball scores at the dinner table. It’s not a good idea to use your phone while you are doing homework. You can’t put your heart into your homework at all. And you may make more mistakes when you can’t fully put your heart into it. There are many good reasons to take a break from your phone. Have a try! So what do you say? Are you ready to give up using your phone?

Dad

Dear Dad,

I know you think I depend on my phone too much. But I’m just using technology to help my life to be better. My phone helps me in many ways.

Do you remember that time when the car broke down? I sent a message to tell you that I was going to be safe.

If I didn’t, you would be worried about me. My phone helps me with my homework too. I can take up anything in a second. It’s really hard to be successful today if you don’t have a phone. Social media, games, and apps might seem silly to you, but they help me to keep in touch with my friends. I promise to cut back my phone use, and I won’t use it at the dinner table any more. But giving it up for a week would be a mistake and it wouldn’t change anything in the long term.

Frank.

【題目】 The secret of the aroma

What is the first thing you notice when you walk into a shop? The products displayed(展示)at the entrance? Or the soft background music?

But have you ever noticed the smell? Unless it is bad, the answer is likely to be no. But while a shop’s scent may not be outstanding compared with sights and sounds, it is certainly there. And it is provided as an increasing powerful tool in encouraging people to purchase.

A brand store has become famous for its distinctive scent which floats through the fairly dark hall and out to the entrance, via scent machines. A smell may be attractive but it may not just be used for freshening air. One sports goods company once reported that when it first introduced scent into its stores, customers’ intention to purchase increased by 80 percent.

When it comes to the best shopping streets in Pairs, scent is just as important to a brand’s success as the quality of its window displays and goods on sales. That is mainly because shopping is a very different experience to what it used to be.

Some years ago, the focus for brand name shopping was on a few people with sales assistants’ disproving attitude and don’t-touch-what-you-can’t-afford displays. Now the rise of electronic commerce (e-commerce) has opened up famous brands to a wider audience. But while e-shops can use sights and sounds, only bricks-and-mortar stores (實(shí)體店) can offer a full experience from the minute customers step through the door to the moment they leave. Another brand store seeks to be much more than a shop, but rather a destination. And scent is just one way to achieve this.

Now a famous store uses complex man-made smell to make sure that the soft scent of baby powder floats through the kid department, and coconut scent in the swimsuit section. A department store has even opened a new lab, inviting customers on a journey into the store’s windows to smell books, pots and drawers, in search of their perfect scent.

1According to the passage, what is an increasingly powerful tool in the success of somebrand stores?

A.Unique scents.B.Friendly assistant.

C.Soft background musicD.Attractive window display.

2E-shops are mentioned in the passage to _______.

C.push stores to use sights and sounds

3Which of the following is true according to the passage?

A.The sport goods company once found an 80 percent increase in purchase.

B.For stores in Paris, the smell is more important than the window displays.

C.Both the E-commerce and the real stores focus on the attractiveness of goods.

D.Many famous stores nowadays are trying hard to find the ideal scent.

4The main purpose of the passage is to ______.

A.compare and evaluateB.examine and assess

C.argue and discussD.inform and explain

【題目】 Many people know that rubbish is a big problem on planet Earth. What many people don't know is that junk has become a problem in outer space too.

According to BBC News, there are more than 22, 000 pieces of space junk floating around the earth. And these are just the things that we can see from the surface of the earth by telescopes. There are also millions of smaller pieces of junk that we can't see.

Objects, like bits of old space rockets or satellites(衛(wèi)星), move around the planet at very high speeds fast that even a very small piece can break important satellites or become dangerous to astronauts. If the tiniest piece of junk crashed into a spaceship, it could damage the vehicle(軌道).

To make things worse, when two objects in space crash, they break into many smaller pieces. For example, when a U.S. satellite hit an old Russian rocket in 2009, it broke into more than 2,000 pieces, increasing the amount of space junk.

To reduce additional space junk, countries have agreed that all new space tools can only stay in space for 25 years at most. Each tool must be built to fall safely into the earth's atmosphere after that time. In the upper parts of the atmosphere, it will burn up.

Many scientists also suggest different ways to clean up space junk. In England scientists are testing a metal net that can be fired into space junk. The net catches the junk and then pulls it into the earth's atmosphere to burn up. The Germans are building robots that can collect pieces of space junk and bring them back to Earth to be safely destroyed.

The problem is becoming more challenging because we're sending more objects into space to help people use their mobile phones and computers,” says Marco Castronuovo, an Italian space Researcher.

“The time to act is now. The longer we leave the problem, the bigger it will become,” he says.

1What does the underlined word “these” in Paragraph 2 refer to?

A.Telescopes.B.Satellites.C.Pieces of space junk.

2Why is space junk considered a problem?

A.It burns up after it re-enters the atmosphere.

B.It could force new space tools to travel at slower speeds.

C.It may crash into other space tools causing damage or death.

3Countries want future space tools to be able to fall back into the earth's atmosphere so that________.

A.the tools can be reused later

B.the tools don't become space junk

C.the effects of space flight can be studied

4How do the Germans plan to deal with space junk?

A.Use robots to collect it.

B.Burn it in the earth's atmosphere.

C.Send it further away from the earth.

5In which section of the newspaper would you probably read this article?

A.Environment.B.Local News.C.Education.

【題目】先通過讀下面的短文,然后根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容,在文章后表格的空格內(nèi)填入一個(gè)最恰當(dāng)?shù)膯卧~。

Since the beginning of human evolution(演變,進(jìn)化), men have migrated(遷移) across continents() in search of food, shelter, safety, and comfortable weather. People still move for these reasons, but new reasons for human migration are arising, such as job relocation(重新安置) and overpopulation.

Three million migrants(移民) are moving from poor countries to wealthier ones each year, and increasingly, their destination(目的地) is a neighboring country in developing parts of the world. People are moving within the developing world for the same reasons as they migrate to wealthier nations. People from poor countries are going to less poor countries, getting away from wars and conflicts. They are also leading to population pressures because some countries are now crowded with people, and they often have high population growth. Those people need to go somewhere else.

There are three main reasons why people move. The basic kinds and percentages are as follows, according to the Current Population Surveys(CPS):

Family-related reasons account for 26.3%, including changes in marriage and other family reasons; work-related reasons 16.2%, including job transfer, retirement, and other job-related reasons; housing-related reasons 51.6%, including new and better houses, better neighborhood, cheaper housing and other housing reasons; the remaining 5.9% of other reasons are attending college, the change of climate and health reasons.

Americans have been migrating south and west for many years in search of better job opportunities and warmer climates. They have also been moving to places a little far from cities, in search of bigger yards and houses, lower crime rates and better schools. In 1950, nearly a fifth of the population lived in the nation’s 20 largest cities. In 2006, it was about one in ten. That’s why many American people say, “Big Cities Shrink as People Move South, West.” They like to live in the countryside.

Between March 2005 and March 2007, 73.4 million Americans moved. Fifty-six percent of these moves were within the same country. Some families even went abroad.

Title: People on the move

Lead-in

● During human history, people have migrated across continents.

● An increasing 1 of people from poor countries are moving to richer countries, especially neighbouring ones.

2 for people’s migration

● According to the CPS, most people move to other places because of the problems of 3.

● Americans have long been moving south and west, looking for a better job chance, a warmer climate and a bigger yard, etc. Many 4 the life in the countryside to the one in cities now.

Conclusion

Now every year more and more people move to other places, some still in the same country, but others to a 5 country.
