     Last night,my eighteen-year-old son and I were leaving a store. At the parking lot,there stood a man. He was old—most likely in his sixties — clean but looked very sad. He was holding a sign which reads: “Looking for work. Trying to get enough money to buy a bus ticket to Wyoming (美國懷俄明州) . ”

      There was only a $ 5 bill and a $ 10 bill in my wallet. I told my son to get the $ 5 bill to the man.

      My son said ,“Mom,I think that man is really down on his luck. Can we give it all to him?”

     “That's all the cash I have ,” I answered. “But,you can choose to give him the $ 5 bill or the $ 10 one. ”

      My son took out the $ 10 bill at once.

      When I drove by the man,my son handed him the money. He looked so shocked (震驚的) and said nothing at first. When he looked at the bill and realized it wasn’t just a dollar bill. His mouth dropped open and said ,“Thank you,thank you ”

     “You’re welcome ,” we smiled and drove off.

      On the way home,my son told me that in his English class,he has been doing a service journal (期刊) . I He was excited to be able to write about this experience.

      It made us both feel very positive to help this old man. We don't know where he was going,and it really doesn’t matter. We hope,in some way,he finds his way back to Wyoming.

      Sarah walked into Churchill Elementary. She had just moved to town,and this was her first day at her new school.      Some people have a very poor sense of direction. Unluckily,I am one of them. I have visited a place many times but I may still get lost there the next time.

     Twenty years ago,I drove a taxi for a living and sometimes I had to work at night.

     One late night,I got a telephone call from a neighborhood. When I arrived there at 2:30 a. m.,the only building was dark except for a single light in the first floor window. So I walked up and knocked at the door.
