When she was young,Merry Wilson was told that she was an epileptic(癲癇患者) .He father,Jim Wilson,is a morning runner.One day,Merry told her father that what she’d really love to do is running.Her father told her,“If you do.I know how to do it.So let’s start running!”

    That’s just what they did every day.It was a good time for them to share.After a few weeks,she told her father,“Daddy,what I’d really love to do is to break the world’s long-distance running record for women.”

    As a student in her first year in college,Merry said,“I’m going to run from Orange County to San Francisco(a distance of 400 kilometers).“in my second year,”she went on,“I’m going to run to Portland,Oregon(over l,500 kilometers).)“I will run to the White House(more than 3,000 kilometers away) in my fourth year at college”

    That year,she finished her run to San Francisco.Her dad ran every kilometer  at her side,and her mom,a nurse,followed in a car in case(萬(wàn)一)anything went wrong.The next year,on the way to Portland,a bone(骨頭)broke in her foot.A doctor told her she had to stop.But she didn’t stop.So she kept running to Portland.Four months later,Merry ran to Washington and shook the hand of the president of the USA.
