【題目】—What would you like, meat or fish?

—_______. I prefer vegetables.

A.EitherB.NeitherC.Both

【答案】B

【解析】

句意:——你想要什么,肉還是魚(yú)?——都不需要。我更喜歡蔬菜。

考查連詞。bothneither都是用在兩者之間的,both用在肯定句,意思是兩者都; neither用在否定句,表示兩者都不;either兩者之一;根據(jù)“What would you like, meat or fish”及“I prefer vegetables”可知不喜歡魚(yú)和肉,更喜歡蔬菜,可推測(cè)出此處是“兩者都不”,所以用“neither”,故選B。

【題目】 “Promise me I’ll die in my own bed and I won’t die alone.”

There it was. Almost three years ago Dad asked me to make those promises. I said yes. And yet, I broke both. I gazed at my two-year-old son. Today is his birthday.

“Promise me...” The voice came from the grave(墳?zāi)?/span>). Or was it simply my own guilt(內(nèi)疚) ridden imagination? Whichever, I wished it would leave me alone and let me enjoy my son’s birthday.

Over two years ago, I broke my first promise. But what else could I have done? The battle(戰(zhàn)斗) against his cancer was lost. All that was left was to keep him comfortable and manage his pain. My sisters and I decided his remaining days would be in a hospital. Determined to keep the other promise, I made sure he was never alone. And then came that day.

It was early morning. I was alone with Dad, waiting for my sisters to come and spare me. I heard my dad’s breath, his only voice for over a week, when my phone rang. The baby was coming. A nurse directed me to see my wife, two floors up. Yes, everything was fine. “Shall I show you to the family waiting room?” I refused, thanking the nurse as I headed down the stairs. But too late. I broke my second promise. Dad had died alone. Joy, guilt. My son and my broken promise.

The voice came again. I cried, head buried in my hands. I felt two little but strong hands, pulling my own hands away from my face. “Grandpapa!” My son shouted while leading me into the living room and pointed to a drawer in the desk. I opened the drawer and took out the picture—my dad’s.

How had he known about that photo? How did he know it was his grandfather? I had never taken it out of the drawer since shortly after my dad’s death. A new life entering the world exactly the moment an old one leaves. Could these two lives have somehow passed each other, maybe even knew each other? Perhaps Dad didn’t die alone after all.

Have you ever tried to hide your emotions(情感)from someone during a conversation? 1

Scientists from the Ohio State University have found that people are able to tell other people's emotions according to changes in the color of their faces.

Scientists studied pictures of people's facial expressions.2 For example, happiness makes our faces red around the cheeks and a little blue around the chin. Disgust(厭惡) creates not only a blue-yellow color around the lips, but also a red-green color around the nose and forehead.

"We believe these color patterns are the result of small changes in blood flow triggered(觸發(fā)) by the central nervous(神經(jīng)的) system," lead researcher Alex Martinez said.

3 Does the color alone or also facial expressions help people tell others' emotions?

To figure this out, scientists added color patterns to pictures of faces that showed no facial expressions.4 They were able to tell the emotions 75 percent of the time without any difficulty.

5 For example, when two people are heatedly arguing over something, we say they are red in the face. When a person is very angry, we'd say he or she is blue in the face.

A.But this raises a question.

B.It is shown that human emotions are influenced by colors on the face.

C.They found that every facial expression is connected to a certain color.

D.It's not always easy, because the color on your face may tell the truth.

E.Then volunteers were asked to tell what emotions the faces were showing.

F.This is why there are some Chinese sayings that connect emotions to the color of one's face.

G.It is irrational (不合理的) not to control our emotions.
