【題目】 William Blake described the eyes as the “windows of the soul.” Our eyes are the windows through which we see the world around us. Either way, there’s no question that we place great value on our eyes and our eyesight. Surveys have shown that of the five senses, sight is the one that people fear losing the most.
Thinking about the important function of our eyes, we’d give them the best care possible, but sometimes we get too busy or forget to do a few simple things that can keep our eyes healthy.
Protecting your eyes starts with the food on your plate. Remember when you were a kid and your mom told you that carrots would improve your eyesight. Well, she might be right. Proper food will keep your eyes strong and healthy.
Give up your daily habits that could seriously injure your eyes. Always wear sunglasses in a sunny day to protect your eyes from ultraviolet ray(紫外線). Rest your eyes every 20 minutes from the computer screen by looking 20 feet away for 20 seconds. At least every 2 hours, get up and take a 15-minute break when working at a computer.
Make sure your eyes do not get injured in the first place. You should try to prevent eye injuries whether you’re playing sports or doing housework. You should also know when to wear safety glasses and what kinds will work best for you.
Last but not least, get your eyes examined regularly. Eye exams can help find some eye diseases. It’s important to find these diseases early on, when they’re easier to treat.

【題目】 Usually, the Full Moon shines brightly all night long, lighting homes, trees, cities, and fields. Sometimes, though, a strange event happens. The Full Moon turns dark in a lunar eclipse. Lunar means “about the Moon”, and an eclipse is a blocking(遮蔽) of light.
A lunar eclipse often impresses people so much because the Moon is bright and nearby. It is the closest heavenly body(天體) to Earth. When the Moon turns dark, we notice! It’s closer to us than Mars or any other planet, and closer than the Sun or any other star. On average, the Moon is 239,000 miles away from Earth’s center. The Sun is almost 400 times farther.
What causes a lunar eclipse? The first key is that the Sun makes light, but the Moon doesn’t. When you see the Moon shining at night, you’re seeing sunlight bouncing off(反射) the Moon.
The second key is that the Moon, which is smaller than Earth, goes around us about once a month. Once a month, the moon is on the opposite side of Earth from the Sun. Then the Sun fully lights the side of the Moon that we see. We call this event a Full Moon. That’s when the Moon shines brightest.
The third key is that, during a lunar eclipse, Earth gets in the way. When you go outside on a sunny day, your body blocks some of the sunlight and casts a shadow(投射影子) over things that lie on the opposite side of you from the Sun. Earth also casts a shadow, and sometimes it falls on the Moon. Then we have a lunar eclipse.
A lunar eclipse happens only during a Full Moon, since that’s the only time when Earth is between the Sun and the Moon. Usually, though, there’s no eclipse because the Full Moon passes above or below Earth’s shadow.

The third key is that the 【4】 casts a shadow over the moon. In a word, a lunar eclipse happens only during a Full Moon, since that’s the only time when the Sun, the earth and the Moon are in a 【5】.

【題目】 The novel coronavirus pneumonia (NCP) has already made a number of people sick. Where did the virus come from? Scientists say it probably came from bats.
Bats can carry and transmit (傳播) more than 60 viruses that can infect(傳染) humans, Live Science noted. They include the world's deadliest viruses, such as Ebola and HIV. Because of their strong immune systems (免疫系統(tǒng)), bats are able to host these viruses and not get sick. At the same time, the viruses keep developing inside the bats to create new variants (變體). These variants can then infect new hosts, such as other wild animals.
Pangolins (穿山甲), for example, might be an intermediate host (中間宿主) for NCP, according to a recent study by Chinese scientists. This means that bats might have given the virus to pangolins, with pangolins then spreading it to humans.
Wild animals like snakes, hedgehogs (刺猬) and bamboo rats also carry different virus. But since they live in the wild, there should be little chance for humans to come into contact with them and get infected - unless the animals are eaten or used to make animal products. When people hunt, buy and eat wild animals, they can introduce viruses to the rest of the population.
But this doesn't mean that we should kill wild animals. Each species has a role in the ecosystem (生態(tài)系統(tǒng)) and all of them are important in keeping a natural ecological balance. The lesson we can learn from disease outbreaks is to protect animals and to live in harmony with them instead of hunting, killing, or eating them.
【1】Why can bats host many viruses without getting sick?
A.Because these viruses are not deadly.B.Because they have strong immune systems.
C.Because the viruses are kept in balance.D.Because they can spread the viruses to other animals.
【2】According to a recent study, humans might get infected with COVID-19 from _________.
A.pangolinsB.snakesC.hedgehogsD.bamboo rats
【3】What does the underlined word "harmony" in the last paragraph probably mean?
A.隔離B.傷害C.和諧D.集中
【4】According to the story, what lesson should humans learn?
A.Research more about wild animals.B.Exercise regularly to stay healthy.
C.Stop keeping animals as pets.D.Don't buy or eat wild animals.
