A man and child look out over destroyed homes after a tsunami(海嘯) and earthquake.
Nuclear crises(核危機(jī)) in Japan’s power plants(核電站).

Could it have been worse?
More than a minute before the earth under their feet began to shake, many millions of Japanese people got cell phone alerts; TV networks interrupted (打斷,中斷) their broadcasts and turned to the latest announcement of Japanese government; loud speakers started suddenly to warn people of the coming tsunami; bullet trains came to a stop. Hundreds, if not thousands of people, lost their lives in Japan. Scientists believe it is the fifth-strongest quake in the world since 1900 and the most powerful on record ever to hit Japan.

Dear Nancy,
You asked about places to go and things to do in our town. The Downtown Mall is always  51  . It’s a   52  place in the oldest part of town. There are some good stores and restaurants there.    53  , Trendy Clothing Store is in Downtown Mall. It’s a fun place to shop, and it has the   54   quality clothes. The shop assistants are friendly   55   people. My favorite     56   in town is Nick’s Restaurant. It is close to my house. It’s cheap and the hamburgers there are great. I like Dragon City Restaurant,    57  . You can eat wonderful noodles there and the beef noodles are the most delicious! You must try the dumplings there, too. But it’s more expensive than Nick’s. The Big Cinema is the best cinema in town. It has the biggest screen and the most  58   seats. The Del Ray Complex is also a good place to see movies. It doesn’t have the 59  movies, but the tickets are the cheapest.
Anyway, there are lots of things to do and to see here. Come for a   60  soon!
Love,
Kate

Jess really felt very happy. When he arrived at his seat in the classroom that morning, he found an invitation(請柬)on his desk. It was from some of his classmates asking him to join their camping trip. This was the first time he was asked to join in an out-of-school activity. Why were they asking him now? Nobody seemed(似乎)to like him. In fact, he had been so lonely (孤獨) that he ate a lot to make himself feel less lonely. As a result, he had put on a lot of weight, and this gave the children something more to make fun of him.
Cindy, who was standing near Jess when he read the invitation, went out quickly to tell the others that the trick had worked. Everyone was happy that Jess thought that was true. But there was no camping trip. The whole thing was made up.
At first, Cindy thought it was fun. But later, when Jess told her that he was going to buy a sleeping bag with his pocket money, Cindy had a second idea. JLetter 4
I just moved and I’m kind of shy, so how do I make new friends?
—Jessica, 11, Canada
Dr. Molly’s Answer ①
You should tell him about your dream and that if you work really hard, it might happen even though you started late. The sooner you tell your dad how you feel, the sooner you’ll be able to work on making your dream come true.
Dr. Molly’s Answer ②
Nobody knows you at your new school. You have nothing to lose, so gather up all your courage and go over to someone who looks friendly and introduce yourself. You can ask that person about your teacher or the other kids in your class to break the ice. Good luck!
Dr. Molly’s Answer ③
It’s better to tell your mom the truth than for her to find out another way. When you tell her, explain why you failed the test. Ask her if she can help you study in the future, so you’ll do better on your tests and also have time for the soccer you love.
Dr. Molly’s Answer ④
Just be yourself and try not to care about what others think. The more you think about it, the worse you will feel. Always act strong and confident. Even if you are a little unsure of something, don’t doubt (懷疑) your abilities to do things right. Just relax.
