Several dead after woman fought with driver, causing bus to fall in China river.

By the Associated Press, Friday, November 2nd, 2018

BEIJING (AP)--A fight between a bus driver and a woman passenger who missed her stop caused the bus to fall off a high bridge into China's Yangtze River.

Wanzhou police said the 48-year old woman passenger asked the driver to stop after she missed her stop, but the driver didn't. She walked up to the driver's seat and talked angrily with him. The driver turned his head several times to talk angrily. Some of people tried to stop them, but it didn't work. The woman strongly hit the driver on the head with her mobile phone. The driver took his right arm off the steering wheel(方向盤)and fought back, then quickly turned to the left, making the bus out of control. Thirteen people, including the two drivers died at once. Another two died on the way to hospital. The doctors rushed to the place at the news of the accident. By 5 a.m., all of the injured(傷者)were sent to three local hospitals for treatment. A hospital said most of the patients were in a good condition, but a few were still in danger. Because of the icy roads, the highway was closed by police sine Tuesday morning. Cloze test.

Are you nervous when you stand in front of the public? Are you afraid to make a speech?

Li Jun, a middle school boy, felt shy when he was making a speech the other day. Li had thought it would be quite easy to speak in front of his classmates.

“I was wrong. It was very different and much _______ than talking to my classmates during playtime,” Li said. “I tried, but it was really difficult to speak. I felt like a mute (啞巴) and wanted to leave the classroom _______.”

Li is not alone. Many middle school students now have the same problem: they can talk about their ideas freely _______ their best friends after class, but can’t speak in public. According to Zhou Hong, a teacher from a university, the main reason is that schools in China pay more attention to writing instead of _______.

Zhou hopes schools can give students more chances to open their mouths, such as speech contests, English corners and class discussions. Students can join in any one they want to. And he also gives some advice to students. “During your free time you should _______ more. When you’re speaking in public, take it easy. Just imagine you’re talking to nobody and speak up your ideas clearly,” Zhou said. “That makes a fine public speech and you’ll feel confident.”
