One sunny Monday, I decided to go for a walk on the path near my house with my husband. I looked down at my ring as I began my walk, feeling as ______ as the day.
Imagine my sadness when I looked again at the end of the path and found the diamond was ______. Anxiously (焦急地), I started back along the path, looking for the _____ stone. In my heart, I knew how hopeless it was. The path was long and covered with leaves. As I _____ the ground, crying and upset, I met an old gentleman. “What’s the matter, love?” he asked ______. “Lost something?” I explained about the missing diamond and showed him the hole _____ my ring. He whistled. “That’s going to be hard to find. Tell you what, love, I walk along this path every day. I’ll keep my eyes open ______ it.” I thanked him, ____ nothing, but told him my husband often walked our dogs along the path ______ he ever found something.
A few days later, my husband met the old man on the path. “ Guess what?” he said, “I found your diamond!” ______ he’d found the tiny stone and was willing to hand the diamond back to my husband, saying casually (漫不經(jīng)心地), “It was lucky that I found it. I only have 50 percent eyesight in one eye. ” When my husband offered him money for his help, he refused it. He could have easily ______ the diamond, or sold it, as it’s worth several thousand dollars. But,_______ this man, I’ll spend the rest of my days trying to do something like that for ______person. And what I have to do is to look at my ring and _____ myself that there are kind and generous souls there.

Chantek was a special orangutan (紅毛大猩猩). In 1979, when Chantek was 9 months old, a scientist (科學(xué)家) called Lyn Miles took him to the University of Tennessee (田納西大學(xué)) in the USA. She wanted to teach Chantek like teaching a human child. She and some other scientists taught him sign language (手語). Chantek learned at least 150 words in American sign language. They also taught him other human skills like using a bathroom and cleaning his room.
Chantek stayed at the university for 8 years. He sometimes even walked to classes with students. But in 1986, Chantek ran away from his place and scared a student. The student cried in fear and said that Chantek wanted to hurt her. So people had to send him to an animal center. He spent 11 years there, living in a cage and becoming fat and unhappy.
In 1997, Chantek moved into Zoo Atlanta. There, he could finally go outside and jump from tree to tree. The zoo said Chantek often used sign language to “talk” with his caretakers (看護(hù)員). But he was too shy to do it with visitors.
Lyn Miles often visited Chantek in the zoo. She said that Chantek still saw himself as half human, and he called the other orangutans in the zoo “orange dogs”.
On August 7, 2017, Chantek died in the zoo at the age of 39.

Body language sometimes speaks louder than words. Body language can tell you whether someone is interested or not, and whether someone is happy to see you or not. One of the most important things that body language can tell, however, is whether a person is lying or not. Here’s how you can determine whether someone is telling you the truth or not, based on body language alone.
The eyes are said to be the windows of the soul and one of the things that the little windows will show you is whether someone is honest or not. When you talk to people, you should look at their eyes and judge whether they are turning away from your close watch or not. People are usually subconsciously(潛意識地) uncomfortable when lying to the person that they are talking to. Besides lying, eyes that have a lot of movement usually show that the person is about to lie or that the person has told a lie.
People who lie often touch their noses and other parts of their faces. If you notice that your partner or someone talking to you unconsciously touches his nose, this probably means that he is lying. The reason why people touch their faces when they lie is that lying usually leads to an increase in blood circulation, and then an itch(癢) in the small blood vessels(血管)in the nose or in the cheeks will appear.
Another common body language suggestion that someone is lying is when a person crosses his arms. If the person crosses the arms, it means that the person is both being defensive and shutting himself off. People who are telling the truth will usually make an open gesture(姿態(tài)). They put the arms on the side to show that they are not hiding anything. Subconsciously, however, people will cross their arms when they are lying.
If you plan to use body language to determine whether someone is lying or not, make sure that you are focused and that you are looking in the face and the person’s body all at the same time.

Stop and listen! What do you hear? You may hear many different sounds. Some of those sounds may be noise. Noise is a loud or unwanted sound.
Noise can be caused by many kinds of machines, such as motorcycles, jet planes (噴氣式飛機(jī)), farm tractors, and power motors. And, to some people, rock music is also a noise.
What happens to people who live near noisy machines or use them over a period of time? Doctors have found that these people have trouble in sleeping. And most importantly, constant (連續(xù)的) loud noise can cause loss of hearing.
Scientists use a unit of measure called a decibel(分貝) to measure the loudness of a sound. The sound of a quiet room, for example, measures 35 decibels. Talking measures between 40 and 65 decibels. Sounds from traffic and from some rock bands measure over 120 decibels. Noise at such high level causes the greatest hearing loss.
根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容,判斷下列句子是否正確,對的涂(A),錯(cuò)的涂(B)。
1.According to the passage, noise is all sounds that you can hear.
2.A “decibel” is a machine that makes loud noise.
3.Loud noise can help people sleep better.
4.Not all people think that rock music is a noise.
5.We can infer (推斷) from the passage that noise is a serious problem.
