"I hate school, and Fm not going back!" Have you ever had that thought? Lots of kids have. Usually this feeling doesn't last long. But what if you have such feeling too much?
If you are stressed out,you might have a hard time making decisions. For example,in the morning, you can't decide what to eat, what to wear,or what to take for lunch.
Sometimes it's a problem with your school work. Maybe the work is too easy and you get bored. Maybe the work is too hard, and you don't feel as clever as the other kids. Or Maybe the reading is too difficult for you,but you are asked to do a lot of it.
You may be getting farther and farther behind the others, and it may seem that you will never catch up with your classmates.
When you know why you don't like school, you can start taking steps to make things better. It's a good idea to tell someone your problems at school. Your mom, dad, friends, teachers,or even classmates will be able to help you.
Another good idea is to write down your feelings about school. For instance, keep a diary or just write in a notebook. It's a great way to let out the emotion that makes you depressed. And you don't have to share what you have written with others.
The next time you find yourself dislike school, the following will also help you:
Make a list of everything you dislike or enjoy―even there is only one thing. See what you can change on the "don't like" list. Could you find a way to show your special interest or talent to others at school? Which activities could you take part in that would help you solve these "don't like" problems? Focus on what you can change and you might be able to get the good feeling back about school!

On the first day of the eighth grade,I waited at the stop for the school bus. When it arrived,I got on and said hello to the bus driver,Mr Rolland. Then I noticed one little girl called Amy. She was different from everyone else on the bus. "Don't talk to Amy," warned Lauren, who sat beside me. "Or everybody will make fun of you."
Amy had many physical differences―her eyes weren't straight, her glasses were an inch thick, and she had really uneven teeth. Every day as we rode to and from school, kids would shout insults at Amy.
"God,what a strange face!Stop looking at me!" "Mr Rolland!Amy took off her glasses, and now her eyes are scaring me. Make her put them back on!" they would say. For a while I shouted my share of insults, just to fit in. After all,I didn't want the other kids to treat me the same way they did to Amy. But while I was insulting her,my heart ached for the girl.
I began to pity her. Then I wanted to stand up for her. I just didn't know how to stop my schoolmates until the night of our class rollerskating party. Our whole class was there, including Amy. Amy didn't know how to skate, but I could see how much she wanted to have fun like the rest of us. So I skated over to her and took her by the hand. I slowly pulled her away from the wall, and together we began around the skating ring. I never said a word to her,and she never spoke to me. She just smiled and every once in a while she would laugh in excitement.
On the school bus the next morning there was much news about Amy and me skating together. But nobody insulted her any more. When the school year ended,my family moved away. And I never heard from Amy again. But I've always hoped that I changed her life for the better.
In fact, she changed my life. After becoming her friend,I no longer tried to impress people by trying to act like them or dress like them. I became myself.

On Sundays my father always wore that gray apron (圍裙) .After breakfast he always announced, "Go ahead everyone. I'll wash the dishes!" For the next hour Dad did the dishes, singing songs like /Had a Hat When I Came In.
I suppose it was strange for a boy's father to wear an apron. It was the last Sunday in August. My father seemed happy as we walked home from the supermarket together.
"Tommy," he said, "there comes a time in every boy's life when he must take on responsibilities (責(zé)任) .Starting today. I want you to wash the dishes on Sunday morning so your mother and I can read the newspaper."

So this was what my life had come to. I could learn Latin well,I could be good at playing baseball,I could do anything, but I could never do those dishes. There was nothing left but to refuse.

"I want you to have this,Tommy. It'll keep your clothes from getting wet. " And before I could say a word,he had put the thing on me. "Thanks,Son."

It's very early in the morning and I'm sitting outside. It's also very cold and dark. With me is Jim Nightingale, and he is the reason I'm up so early. He passes me a hot cup of coffee. "Not long to wait now," he says. I hope he's right.
After a few minutes there is a very weak light in the east, and then I hear a bird singing. It sings very loudly and very clearly. "That's the robin (知更鳥) ,"says Jim. A few more birds start singing with the robin, and Jim knows the names of them, too. Half an hour later, there are more and more birds singing, and it's very loud!Suddenly, all around us is the sound of the birdsong. This is the dawn chorus (晨鳴) ,and it's beautiful.
"Wow,this is amazing!" I tell Jim,who is smiling. "Is there a dawn chorus every morning?"
"Birds can sing any time of the year, but the best time is the end of winter and during the spring. This is when the birds sing most."
"Really? Then, why do they sing?" I ask.
"Well, there are two reasons," explains Jim. "Most of the songbirds are males. They want to find a female (雌性) ,so they sing to show how strong they are. The female birds just listen and choose the best singer! The birds also sing to tell other males to go away. They need their own area. They don't like sharing with another male."
I listen to the birds, the songs seem too much to me. "Do the birds sing a special song in the morning?"
"That's a good question," replies Jim. "The successful birds have many kinds of calls and songs. Sometimes they copy the songs of other birds. This makes it sound like there are many birds in that place already and other males stay away. Also the female likes songs with different notes. Some birds, for example the European wren, have songs that contain over 700 different notes per minute!”
So,how does Jim know so much about birds? Well,he works as a volunteer for the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds. He is trying to help the birds live in the modern world. " More and more of the birds' habitat disappears every year. The sparrow, for example, was a very common bird in the UK,now it's in danger."
By now the sun is up and the birds are quiet. It's light so they can start looking for food; they need a big breakfast after all that singing!
