When I was seven years old, my family made me an ant farm(螞蟻窩). First, we put clean sand in a thin glass box. Then we waited for the ants to arrive.
After the ants were in the glass farm, they started to make tunnels (地道). I was amazed that each one knew exactly what to do. Each had its own job.
On the fifth day something terrible happened. I put my face so close to the glass farm that I knocked it over. All the tunnels fell down. Although(雖然) the ants kept alive after their earthquake, one by one they began to die. I was frightened as I watched them give up building their tunnels to carry the bodies to a corner (角落)of the farm.

My mother said that the ants were dying of sadness. They simply could not stand(忍受) that their tunnels were gone.

Although much time has passed, I still think of that ant farm. Mom had hoped it would teach me about the natural world, but it taught me much more.

Over the years, I came to realize the importance of teamwork. Working together, the ants were able to make an amazing world for themselves. I also learned that they should be admired (欽佩) for their hard work.

But there was an even larger lesson that I did not realize until recently: Adversity (逆境) is a natural part of life, and must be accepted. Unlike the ants, we cannot give up when we are sad. We have to realize that if a tunnel is gone, we must build another.

Giving up is not a good choice.

School is not the safe place as it used to be. How to be safer in school? How can students stay away from danger? There are many activities that students can do to learn safety in an easy way. Here are some stories from the students who have had safety classes in Xuri Middle School.

Wang Lin:About Sports Safety

Once we made up a story about sports safety. All we needed to do was to point out safe and unsafe sports behaviors in the story. From this lesson, we knew we should always do warmup(熱身)activities before playing sports and drink some water after that.

Liu Ying:About Classroom Safety

Putting on short plays is a good way to learn and enjoy ourselves. We once put on a short play about a boy called Little Naughty. He always did something naughty(淘氣的) in the classroom and got himself into trouble. In this way, we learned to behave well and get on well with each other.

Zhou Weilun:About Fire Safety

In our school,we have a fire emergency response practice(火警應(yīng)急演習(xí)) in September every year. So we know where to go if there is a fire in school. We learn to use the fire extinguisher(滅火器),too. But I don't think we should be allowed to put out the fire alone,it's too dangerous for young students like us.
