【題目】 You may think you cannot live through summer without air conditioners(空調). But in ancient China, hand fans were almost the only ones to help people keep cool.

Chinese people started to use hand fans over 2,000 years ago. The fans came in different shapes, such as round and square. They were also made from all kinds of materials. Palm leaf fans were cheap and easy to make. Feather fans(羽毛扇)showed the owner’s high status. Sandalwood(檀香)fans could send out sweet smell.

Later, hand fans became far more than just something that could cool you down. They developed into art works, in which Tuanshanround fansand Zheshanfolded fanswere the most common.

In the shape of a full moon, Tuanshan was usually made of silk. They had beautiful birds and flowers on them. Women especially those in the imperial palace (皇宮), liked to use them. Meanwhile, men, especially the literati(文人), used Zheshan. The literati liked them because Zheshan were usually made of paper and they could paint and write poems on them. 【題目】閱讀短文,按要求回答問題。

Amy was looking for a gift for her little daughter. She stopped in front of a store full of dolls.

"Girls like dolls," she thought as she stepped into the store.

Looking around, she saw a grandma doll -- one with grey hair and a pair of glasses. In her mind appeared Joyce, her own mother.

When Amy was a little girl, she got her first doll from Joyce for her birthday. Then the second, the third.., the dolls never arrived late, year after year.

"Why always a doll?" This question had been inAmy's mind until one day her father gave the answer.

Joyce dreamed of having a doll when she was a child herself. Her parents promised one for her fifth birthday. Sadly, they both died in a traffic accident before it arrived. The never-received gift was the mostvaluable one in her eyes.

Recalling(回想起) her mother's story, Amy got an idea.

It was Joyce's 60th birthday. She got a package with a card that read:

Dear Joyce,

I forget to send you a package that you should have received on May 20, 1956, your fifth birthday.

The gift inside has aged, but I felt that you might still want to have it.

Love,

Angel of Joy

Joyce opened the package and saw a lovely grandma doll. She clasped the doll that she had waited so many years for, with tears running down her face. The doll, given by her "Angel of Joy", made her the happiest "child" in the world.

【題目】 Now they Vieira children are adults, and they sometimes travel to Spain (西班牙) to visit their family and friends. But they can't communicate with them. Unfortunately this is common. When people move to new countries, they often leave their own customs and mother language behind. This is a mistake because there are many benefits to knowing more than one language.

【題目】Future astronauts could travel with emotional support robots

To help astronauts of the future survive(幸免于) the mental(精神的) challenges that come with staying in space for quite a long time, space travelers’ tasks could soon be accompanied(陪伴) by AI-powered, empathetic(有同理心的,同感的) robotic helpers.

Not only does space travel present astronauts with lots of physical stresses, spending months or years in such a physically demanding(要求高的) place with limited space and the same people can also raise many mental tests as well. According to MIT Technology Review, scientists are working to alleviate astronauts from some of the latter challenges by creating “an AI assistant that’s able to feel human emotion and respond(做出反應) with empathy.”

While such a technology would prove itself useful by being able to predict the needs of the crew members in space and “intervene(干預) if their mental health is in danger,” it has the potential to be life-saving when humans choose to explore beyond Earth’s gravitational field(引力場) and towards deep space.

Though astronauts currently on the International Space Station have an intelligent robot to interact with called CIMON, it is short of proper emotional intelligence according to NASA CTO Tom Soderstrom. As a result, a team at the organization’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory is working on a more complex(復雜的) emotional support companion that can control a spacecraft’s functioning in addition to tracking the crew members’ behaviours.

Right now in the lab, an AI-equipped robot called Henry the Helper can be found walking around the grounds assisting visitors who appear confused or lost based on their facial expression. Two more emotionally intelligent robots are expected to be introduced later this year, one of which is said to be able to take part in conversations more complex than giving navigation(導航) assistance.

The team’s final goal is to make a companion named Fiona the Future a reality, an emotionally intelligent cross-platform system. Fiona, if all goes according to the JPL’s plans, will help keep astronauts of the future stay mentally fit as they start their journeys to deep space.

1What does the underlined word alleviate in Paragraph 2 probably mean?

A.面臨B.應對C.緩解D.刺激

2According to the passage, which is the biggest challenge astronauts meet in space?

A.Mental health.B.Physical health.C.Food safety.D.Environment.

3Which of the following is NOT true about the future AI helpers?

A.They will be able to know human emotion by feeling.

B.They will be able to control the crew members’ behaviours.

C.They will be able to guess what the crew members want.

D.They will be able to join in the conversations with the crew members.

【題目】Differences between colds and flu

Both colds and influenza(flu)(流感) are caused by viruses and the two illnesses can have similar symptoms(癥狀). At first it can be difficult to tell the difference. In general, the symptoms of influenza are more serious and last longer than those of a cold.

The main difference between cold and flu symptoms is that flu more commonly includes fever: the fever can be 38 or higher and last for 3-5 days. The great tiredness caused by flu can last for weeks while cold symptoms are generally not serious and last for about 1 week. Also, runny nose is more common with cold than flu. Vomiting(嘔吐) is another key difference: vomiting is not usually connected with the common cold but can be found in flu.

Although the differences above are generally true, it is impossible to know for sure if it is flu or cold. For example, it is possible to have flu without fever.

Antibiotics(抗生素) don’t work against a cold or flu because they attack bacteria(細菌) instead of rinses, You can treat yourself at home by

getting plenty of rest and sleep (this means staying home from work or school)

drinking plenty of fluids (especially water)

and if you have a sore throat, eating soft foods that are easy to swallow.

See your doctor if you have cough and high fever (38 or more) that is not improving, trouble breathing, chest pain, or if you have other worries about your symptoms.

1From Paragraph 1 and Paragraph 2, we know that ________.

A.at first it can be easy to tell the difference between colds and flu

B.compared with the symptoms of a cold, flu’s symptoms usually last longer

C.fever is more common with cold than flu

D.vomiting cannot be found in a common cold

2Which of the following is suitable for ?

A.Treatment for colds and flu
