Here is a page from my diary.

Thursday, May the12011. 2

One of my aunts has never had a comfortable pair of shoes on all her life, but often wearing larger shoes walked up 3 down in the past.

Once I asked her 4, she would say: "The size of shoes is the same price, why not buy big ones?" Every time I retold this story, there were always some people 5had a good laugh over it.

In fact, there are too many people like my aunt. Such as, a writer who has no thought just writes a thick bitter(厚重苦澀的) works; a(n) 6who has nothing to draw, but paints super-giant draw (超級巨畫); a businessman or businesswoman seldom stays at home on business, but there are huge homes.

Many people want to get much 7,in fact, he or she is only 8by the inherent greed (內(nèi)在貪欲), just like buying a king-size(特大號的) shoes but forget 9in the foot.

No matter what shoes to buy, it is the most important to fit your 10. No matter what you want to get, it is necessary to stop when it is enough.

【題目】When my first wartime Christmas came, I was in basic training in New Jersey and not sure if I would make it home for the holidays. Only on the afternoon of December 23 was the list of men who would have the three-day holiday posted. I was one of the lucky soldiers. It was Christmas Eve when I arrived home, and a little snow had fallen. Mother opened the front door. I could see beyond her, into the corner of the living room where the tree had always stood, there were lights, all colors, and ornaments (飾品) shining against the green of a pine.

“Where did it come from?” I asked.

“I asked the Gates boy to cut it,” my mother said. “I wouldn’t have had one just for myself, but when in great need…such a rush! He just brought it in this afternoon.”

The pine reached to the proper height, almost to the ceiling, and the Tree Top Crystal Star was in its place. A few green branches reached out a little awkwardly(難看) at the side, I thought, and there was a bit of bare trunk showing in the middle. But the tree filled the room with warm light and the whole house with the pleasant smell of Christmas.

“It’s not like the one you used to find,” my mother went on. “Yours were always in good shape. I suppose the Gates boy didn’t know where to look for a better one. But I couldn’t be fussy because he had tried his best.”

“Don’t worry,” I told her. “It’s perfect.”

【題目】The spring season brings warm weather, flowers and other changes for people to enjoy. For some restaurant cooks, the most exciting spring arrival is ramps.

Ramps are a wild plant in the eastern mountains of North America. They are one of the first plants that grow in the spring, usually between April and May. They are recognized(認(rèn)出) by their red stem(), and two long and wide green leaves. They are also famous for their strong taste, similar to onions(洋蔥).

Ramps are not as well-known as other vegetables, but they have a long history in the United States. In the Appalachian Mountains, ramps have been an important food for a longtime. During spring, it is common for small towns in the Appalachian area to hold large ramp dinners for the community.

However, over the last 30 years, ramps popularity has grown quickly. They are now a highly-desired vegetable for many nice restaurants in cities like New York and Washington D.C.

One reason the plant is popular is that it grows in the wild. It is difficult to grow them on farms. Most restaurants get them from foragers, who collect ramps by searching forests for some small pieces of land where they grow. Ramps have a short season. Within a few weeks of full growth, the plant is done for the year. This shot life is some reason for their popularity.

And that popularity could lead to their disappearance from Earth. In 1995, the local

Government in Quebee, Canada, stopped people selling the plant to businesses in order to protect the plant against being over-dug.

The season is short, but it has not ended yet. If you are in the right place, you still have time to try a taste of ramps yourself.
