When women sit together to watch a movie on TV, at the same time they usually talk about a lot of subjects, including children, men, careers and what’s happening in their lives. When groups of men and women watch a movie together, the men usually end up telling the women to shut up. Men can either talk or watch the screen---they can’t do both---and they don’t understand that women can. Besides(此外), women think that the point of all getting together is to have a good time and develop relationships--not just to sit there like couch potatoes staring (盯著) at the screen.
During the ad breaks, a man often asks a woman to explain the plot(the story that is told in a novel or play or movie etc.) and tell him where the relationship between the characters is going. He is unable, unlike women, to read the small body language signals that show how the characters are feeling emotionally(情緒上). Since women originally spent their days with the other women and children in the group, they developed the ability to communicate successfully because they want to keep relationships. For a woman, speech continues to have such a clear purpose: to build relationships and make friends. For men, to talk is to connect to the facts.
Men see the telephone as a communication tool for sending facts and information to other people, but a woman sees it as a way of keeping relationship. A woman can spend two weeks on vacation with her girlfriend and, when she returns home, telephone the same girlfriend and talk for another two hours.
There is no convincing(令人信服的)evidence that social conditioning, the fact that girls’ mothers talked them more, is the reason why girls talk more than boys. Psychiatrist Dr. Michael Lewis, author of Social Behaviour and Language Acquisition, conducted experiments that found mothers talked to and looked at baby girls more often than baby boys. Scientific evidence shows parents reply to the brain differences of their children. Since a girl’s brain is better organized to send and receive speech, we talk to them more. As a result, mothers who try to talk to their sons are usually pointed to receive only short complaints in reply.

A.experience the happy time again |

3.What does the writer want to tell us most?

How much do you know about Top Combine (至上勵合 TC), the popular boy band? After two months of training in South Korea, the five boys are back with their latest album Grandness Equal to Heaven (《齊天大盛》). They showed up in Beijing to promote their new record. Hundreds of teenagers screamed in excitement when they saw their idols.
“I was blown away (被……征服) by this album. I knew TC would improve after going to South Korea, but I couldn't have imagined it would be so nice,” said a fan after she listened to the album.
Each of the boys has put something of themselves into the new album, from Zhang Yuan's soft voice to Ma Xueyang's talents composing and writing lyrics. Their hit song Grandness Equal to Heaven is a creative mix of moving rhythms and traditional musical instruments, including flute (笛子). A teenage fan says that Top Combine's new album helps him get through all his tests.
Although they tried to be China's No 1 Motivational (勵志的) boy band, Top Combine's debut in October, 2008 was not a big success. The band's first EP Arrival was not immediately popular. Can you imagine a classroom without one thing that has long been considered a necessary part? No notebooks, no textbooks, no test papers. Nor are there any pencils or pens, which always seem to run out of ink at the critical moment.
A “Paperless classroom” is what more and more schools are trying to realize. Students don’t do any handwriting in this class. Instead, they use hand-sized or specially-designed computers. The teacher downloads texts from Internet libraries and sends them to every student’s personal computer.
Having computers also means that students can use the Web. They can look up information on any subject they’re studying, from maths to social science.
A high school teacher, Judy Herrel in Florida, US, described how her class used the Web. “Using a book that’s three or four years old is impossible,” she said.
A paperless classroom is a big step towards reducing the waste of paper.
“Think about the money and trees we could save with the computers,” she said.
But, with all this technology, there’s always a risk that the machines will break down. So, in case of a power failure or a technical problem, paper textbooks should still be widely available (可得到的) for these students.
1.The underlined word “critical” in the first paragraph probably has the same meaning as _______.
A. worrying B. dangerous C. happy D. important
2.You are sure to find __________ in a paperless classroom.
A. pens B. computers C. test papers D. notebooks
3.According to Judy Herrel, __________.
A. the Web can talk the students everywhere
B. the Web can take the place of teachers
C. the Web is a better tool for information
D. the Web is for downloading information
4.The paper textbooks should still be widely available because __________.
A. students won’t have trouble with their pens
B. computers may break down sometimes
C. students may not get all information from the Internet
D. paper textbooks may give students more information

Feeling left out?
A reader wrote in to say that she was feeling lonely at break because her best friend
wasn’t around. Here’s our advice to her—and to all kids who feel lonely sometimes.
It’s hard when a best friend isn’t around—maybe because she moved to a different
school or a different class. You may feel lonely at break or lunchtime. You want to have new
friends.but how do you make them? Maybe it seems like everybody else already has their
friends. But remember, there’s always room for more friends.
Start by looking around your classroom—think about which kids you’d like to play
with at break.Look for chances to say hi to them, smile, and be friendly.Offer to share
something or express your appreciation(欣賞)to them.Invite someone to play with you or
say “Do you want to sit here?” in the lunchroom. When you’re at break, walk over to kids
you want to play with.a(chǎn)ct friendly, and say “Hi,can l play, too?” or just join in.
If you have trouble doing this or if you’re feeling shy, ask your teacher to help you make
new friends.Teachers are usually pretty good at matching up friends. The best way to make
friends is to be a friend.Be kind,be friendly,share,say nice things,offer to help—and pretty soon,you’ll have one,or two,or even more new friends.
You might still miss that special best friend. But when you see each other, you can share
something you didn’t have before she left:You can introduce her to your new friends!
