China is running ahead in 5G . In March, 2019, the Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station became world's first "5G railway station". Now, it takes only 20 seconds to download a long movie there.

We are moving closer and closer to the 5G world. However, the new technology is still strange to most of us. What is 5G, after all? At first, 5G is fast. 5G will be much faster than today's 4G networks!

The first 5G modem（貓，調(diào)制解調(diào)器）of the IT company Qualcomm supports speeds of up to 5 Gigabytes（千兆字節(jié)）per second. Most of us have never experienced anything close to that speed. And we are only talking about the first generation（一代）of 5G modems, Future models are likely to be even faster.

But 5G is not all about speed. Have you ever been to a large event where your data (數(shù)據(jù))connection slowed down? That is because 4G networks can only support a certain number of devices(設(shè)置) per square meter. 5G networks will be able to do much better. They can support up to a million devices(設(shè)置) per square kilometer.

Now, you begin to understand why 5G is a huge change over 4G. The technology is not Just for the smartphones. It has a strong influence(影響) on every connected device. With 5G, self-driving cars will be able to communicate with the world around them as quickly as possible. Wearables, Pcs and smart home devices will be able to improve as well.
