Many Chinese students think American students enjoy more freedom than them at school. In fact, American schools also have their rules. If students break(違背) the rules, they will get punishment(懲罰), too.  On the first day of a new term, 128 students of Morton High School were sent back home for wearing the wrong clothes. There are altogether(總共)1,200 students in the school. Usually only 20 students break the school dress rule every day. So the headmaster(校長(zhǎng))Theresa Mayerik said it was the worst new term she had ever seen.
At Morton High School, students’ favorite clothes such as wide pants and low-necked shirts are not allowed( 允許). Some students think they have the right to choose what to wear, but the headmaster doesn’t think so.“ I’d be supportive if half the school was sent back home ,because 99% will get the message that our school is for education”
“Freedom” doesn’t mean “free of restrictions(限制性規(guī)定)”. That is to say, there is no total(完全的) freedom in the world, no matter in the US or in China.

In England recently three foreign gentlemen came to a bus stop and waited. About five minutes later, the bus they wanted came along. They were just going to get on when suddenly there was a loud noise behind them. People rushed onto the bus and tried to push them out of the way. Someone shouted at them. The bus conductor came rushing down the stairs to see what all the trouble was about. The three foreigners seem all at sea and looked embarrassed (窘迫的). No one had told them about the British custom (習(xí)慣)of lining up for a bus that the first person who arrives at the bus stop is the first person to get on the bus .
Learning the language of a country isn't enough. If you want to have a pleasant visit, find out as much as possible about the manners and customs of your host country. You will probably be surprised just how different they can be from your own. A visitor to India would do well to remember that people there consider it impolite to use the left hand for passing food at table. The left hand is supposed to be used for washing yourself. Also in India, you might see a man shaking his head at another to show that he doesn't agree. But in many parts of India a shake of the head means agreement. Nodding your head when you are given a drink in Bulgaria will most probably leave you thirsty. In that country, you shake your head to mean 'yes'— a nod means ‘no’. At a meal in countries on the Arabic Peninsula, you will find that your glass is repeated refilled as soon as you drink up. If you think that you have had enough, you should take the cup or glasses in your hand and give it a little shake from side to side or place your hand over the top.
In Europe it’s quite usual to cross your legs when you are sitting talking to someone even at an important meeting. Doing this in Thailand, however, could bring about trouble. Also, you should try to avoid (避免)touching the head of an adult ——it's just not done in Thailand .

“How are you?” is a nice question. It’s a friendly way that people in the U.S.A greet each other. But “How are you?” is also a very unusual question. It’s a question that often doesn’t need an answer. The person who asks“ How are you?” hopes to hear the answer “Fine”, even if the person’s friend isn’t fine. The reason is that “How are you?” isn’t really a question and “Fine” isn’t really an answer. They are simply other ways of saying “Hello” or “Hi”.
Sometimes, people also don’t say exactly what they mean. For example, when someone Asks “Do you agree?”, the other person might think, “No, I disagree. I think you’re Wrong...”But it isn’t very polite to disagree so strongly, so the other person might say “I’m not sure.” It’s a nicer way to say that you don’t agree with someone.
People also don’t say exactly what they are thinking when they finish talking with other people. For example, many talks over the phone finish when one person say “I’ve to go now.” Often, the person who wants to hang up gives and excuse: “Someone’s at the door.”“Something is burning on the stove.” The excuses might be real, or not. Perhaps the person who wants to hang up simply doesn’t want to talk any more, but it isn’t polite to say that. The excuse is more polite, and it doesn’t hurt the other person.
Whether they are greeting each other, talking about an idea, of finishing a talk, people don’t say exactly that they are thinking. It’s an important way that people try to be nice to each other, and it’s part of the game of language.
小題1:“How are you?”is another way of saying"Hello."or"Hi."
小題2: It is polite lo say"No.I disagree I think you are wrong, "if you don’t agree with others.
小題3:When someone says"I have to go now "On the phone.it means he wants to go on talking.
小題4:"Someone is at the door."may be an excuse for finishing a plume can.
小題5:Sometimes people don't say exactly what they are thinking about just became they try to be nice to each other.
