【題目】 There are two ways of driving in the world: if the driver’s seat is on the left and cars travel on the right side of the road, it is called “l(fā)eft-hand driving”, as it is in China, while the other way of driving is called “right-hand driving”, as it is in Britain. Nowadays, around 65% of the world’s population drives on the right of the road, while the rest is used to driving on the left.

Though no one knows the exact reasons, it seems likely that people in ancient times travelled on the left of the road. Roman coins show pictures of horsemen passing on each other’s right. And right-hand people generally got on a horse from the animal’s left. Obviously, it’s safer to do this at the left side of the road, and it makes sense (行得通) for the horse to be ridden on the left.

A change happened in the late1700s. When Napoleon (拿破侖) conquered (攻占) nations, he forced them to travel on the right side of the road, which spread left-hand driving throughout Europe. However, Britain still stuck with the right-hand driving rule and countries which were part of the British Empire were made to follow. This is why India, Australia and the former British colonies (前英國殖民地) in Africa continue to drive on the left. One exception (例外,除外) is Egypt, as that country was defeated by Napoleon before becoming part of the British Empire.

Some countries changed sides until modern times. Sweden only moved to driving on the right in 1967 and Iceland changed the following year. Ghana changed sides in 1974. On September 7, 2009, Samoa became the third country ever to change from left-to- -right-hand- driving for the reason that it made it easier to import (進(jìn)口) cheap cars from right-hand- driving Japan, Australia and New Zealand.

So if you want to travel to another country or go on business, make sure you know whether it is left-or right-hand driving to avoid unnecessary troubles.

A.B.

C.D.

A.Sweden changed to drive on the right in 1974.

B.People drive on the left side of the road in Egypt.

C.People have known the exact reasons for driving on the left.

5What is the writer’s purpose for writing this passage?

【題目】

Smoking in indoor public places including public working places, public transport vehicles(車輛)and some other special outdoor working places has been banned(禁止)in China since January 2011.Let’s look at the following advantages of banning smoking.

First, banning smoking will not only help in saving smokers from health problems and diseases, but will also be good for passive(被動(dòng))smokers. When the smoker is smoking in a restaurant, the people around him are sure to breathe(呼吸) in the smoke and suffer from(受苦,患病) the diseases an active smoker gets. If smoking is banned, spread of these diseases can be controlled(控制).

Next, banning smoking will put stress on smokers to give up. Since a smoker is prevented from smoking, he will learn how to live without smoking for long hours. When a smoker doesn’t smell or see anybody around him smoking, it might reduce his wish to smoke too. As a result, people have to give up smoking.

Smoking in public places influences non-smokers to start smoking, especially adolescents. When teens see people around them smoking, they will follow them easily. Thus the number of teen smokers will increase. Also asthma(哮喘)and other problems are often seen in children living around smokers. So if it is banned, these places will become safe for children and teenagers.

Looking from the economic point of view, smoking should be banned to increase work productivity(生產(chǎn)率).Employees(雇員)who smoke usually take breaks to smoke while working. So the number of hours they put in their work is smaller.

If you see from the environment point of view, smoking should be banned. Smoking causes air pollution. If it is banned, it will help keep the environment from getting worse.

1________ doesn’t belong to a non-smoking place

A.A fieldB.A hospitalC.A libraryD.A restaurant

2The second paragraph mainly wants to tell us ________

A.banning smoking is good for restaurants

B.banning smoking is good for non-smokers

C.banning smoking is good for spread of diseases

D.banning smoking is good for active smokers and passive smokers

3According to the text, the underlined word “adolescents” means ________

【題目】請閱讀一張西坡時(shí)間交換項(xiàng)目的海報(bào),根據(jù)所提供的信息,完成信息卡,把答案寫在答題卡指定的位置上。

The Hillside Village Hour Exchange (交換) is a project whose idea came from the international Time Bank movement. The starters of this project recognize that every person can offer services to other people as well as receive services. The unit of exchange is one hour of time. Villagers who agree to join this project can earn a time credit (信用) for every hour they help meet the needs of another villager. Then when they are in need of others’ help, they can spend the credits they get getting services from others. Services for exchange include helping in the home, taking care of the elders and the kids, moving, repairing, gardening, computer service and pet care etc.

Here is how it goes. Leo joins this project and fills in a form on our website, writing down the skills he has and the things he needs. Mary visits our website and searches our Time & Talents page for people who provide shopping service and decides to get in touch with Leo. Leo returns her call and helps her get the things she wants from the village store. Leo then records the time credits he earned online and spends them having Tom play the piano at his party. Tom spends his credits having Lisa help his son little Danny with his math homework. This can go on and on as you like.

For more information, visit www. HEhillsidevillage.com or call Mr. Smith, our project director at 2569-9854 (9 a.m.—4 p.m.).

【題目】

I’ve been playing in rock bands since I was about 14 years old. It’s my favorite hobby in the world and I don, t think I’ll ever give it up. When I moved to China, I wasn’t sure what it would be like to play in a band here. Would it be hard to find people to play with? Or places to play at? As it turns out, Beijing is a great place to play music.

One of the main differences is that the music scene here is much smaller than those in most big Western cities. This might seem like a disadvantage, but I actually kind of (有點(diǎn)) like it. It means that most of the people involved, whether they are promoters (宣傳人員) or musicians or Just music fans, know each other well. It’s like having a big family. I’ve met some amazing friends by playing music here.

Another big difference is that every practice studio and live-house in Beijing has the basic equipment (設(shè)備) for playing music. When I played drums in the US, I had to bring my whole drum kit everywhere we played. But here, I just bring my drumsticks and cymbals (). This makes it way more convenient to practice, record and play music.

And I’ve definitely had some unique experiences since I’ve been playing here. For one concert, we played on an outdoor stage next to a farm in the suburbs of Baoding in Hebei province. For another show, we played at a tiny bar inside of a huge shopping mall. These kinds of experiences are rare in the US. It’s definitely been a lot of fun to play music here.

1In the first paragraph the writer wasn’t sure ________?

A.whether he would miss his friends

B.whether he would bring his whole drum kit

C.whether he could continue playing music

D.whether he could start a new hobby

2From the second paragraph we know ________.

A.the music scene in Beijing is the same size as Western cities

B.people in the music scene come from a big family

C.the writer gets on well with people in Western cities

D.the writer makes some new friends by playing music

3What does the underlined word “unique” mean in the last paragraph?

A.獨(dú)特的B.危險(xiǎn)的C.艱難的D.可怕的

4What do we know from the passage?

A.The writer has played rock music for 14 years.

B.Rock bands in Beijing are not very popular.

C.The writer enjoys playing music in China.

D.The writer once played on an outdoor stage on a farm.
